Unicab-Vario Outdoor Active Cabinet Description Features and Benefits The Unicab-Vario cabinet is a double-walled, weatherproof, protective outdoor cabinet that accommodates electronic equipment, guaranteeing reliable functionality. • Maintenance-free surface made of environmentally resistant plastic The Unicab-Vario cabinet protects components against the effects of weather and extreme temperatures. Applications • Telecommunications: collocation, xDSL, UMTS, cable television, DLC, RSLU • Electronics: measurement and control • Traffic control technology • Constructed of recyclable materials, the double-walled cabinet assures optimum interior climate control • Light-weight in comparison with metal cabinets of the same size and function • Can be delivered completely assembled or as a kit • Passive or active cooling systems available • Flexible mounting arrangements for components, meeting either ETSI or 19-inch standards • Installs over existing housing and plinth providing economic alternative to new builds • Replacement of external housing parts possible without interruption of service The housing consists of a metal inner shell with a plastic outer shell made of fibreglass-reinforced polycarbonate. For over 25 years, this plastic has proven durable in cross-connection cabinets for major communications service providers around the world. The outer dimensions satisfy the international guidelines EN 301169-2. The plastic roof (1) features a water-drip protection lip on both the front and the back of the cabinet. Cabinets can be installed side-by-side. On the sides of the roof, there are small areas for customer-specified identification. Slots provide air exchange for climate control of installed components. The outer plastic shell (3) is fixed to the frame and can be installed or removed part-by-part (side panels, back wall, doors) without interruption of service. • The outer surface of the doors and back are vertically fluted, making it difficult to affix illegal posters (3a). • The doors have a 3-point locking mechanism and can be held open. Available accessories include: - Double or single locking mechanisms with revolving handle for profile cylinders (satisfying DIN 18252) - Door contact sensors • Hidden closing and locking elements make vandalism difficult • Removable front panel, locked from within, for access to lower part of the cabinet (4b). The inner structural frame (4) made of aluminium profile rods, creates a closed metal inner shell when metal shielding sheets (5), base plates (6) and shielding sheets on the inside of the door (7) are installed. Designed for installation of - a frame (8) for mounting chassis (satisfies ETSI standard ETS 300 199-4, as well as 19-inch standards) - cable connection and distribution equipment for both copper and fibre optic networks • Mounting plates, frames or rails are available for customer-specific solutions. The base plate (6) protects the inner space against moisture rising from the ground. It provides a sealed feed-in area for underground cables. Divides the cabinet into a component accommodation area. • (4a) above the base plate • (4b) below the base plate, for the installation of buffer batteries, as well as cable and plinth mounting elements The base plate can be delivered either with cable grommets or closed without cable entries. The closed base plate is opened by the customer as required for cable feed-in. (1) (3) (7) (3a) (3b) (2) (4) (4a) (8) (5) (4b) (6) (9) (12) (11) Dimensions The plinth (9) is made of steel and the separation point between the cabinet and the plinth is at just above ground level. Support grids with large surface areas (10) distribute the cabinet's weight over the bottom of the excavation. Plastic sheets (11) cover the plinth's upper half. Cable routing elements are available for guiding cables into the cabinet and ensure that the minimum bend radius is maintained. Cable conduit pipes can be connected over a cable connection. Predetermined break-point elements form the interface between the cabinet and the plinth (12). These reduce the effect of accidents, since the plinth, which is in the ground, usually remains undamaged. As a result, expensive excavation work after accidents is usually not necessary. Defective predetermined break-point elements can be easily replaced. A steel carrier is available for Unicab-Vario installations on concrete slabs or on rooftops. Environmental module (2) Depending on the energy generated by the installed equipment and the temperature difference to the outside, the cabinet's inner space will become warm. Without proper ventilation, the temperature can exceed the permissible ambient temperature for the installed equipment. This problem can be solved by use of a suitable cooling design. The cabinet´s outer plastic shell is made of polycarbonate which has excellent thermal insulation properties. This minimises the heating effects of direct sunlight on the cabinet. Two cooling methods are available, passive and active; both methods protect the inner space from environmental hazards such as dust or water. Options for climatisation Fixed-line carriers all over the world are deploying active electronic equipment in external cabinets throughout their distribution networks as they deliver advanced broadband data, voice and video services to their business and residential customers. Active equipment must be housed in a sealed environment regulating both temperature and moisture, which, if not properly controlled, can seriously and adversely affect equipment reliability and service-life. Connectivity such as cross-connect equipment also benefits from a controlled environment. The Unicab-Vario cabinet offers a secure, customizable environment for housing both active and passive equipment, and support use of copper- and fiber-based technologies. Four options of cabinet climatisation are available • • • • Passive Roof fan (forced aeration) Heat exchanger Air conditioner All active climatisation devices are located in the cabinet roof, assuring easy retrofit and interchangeability of devices. The following must be considered when choosing the correct method of climatisation for a given installation: • • • • • What devices will be installed in the cabinet What are the dimensions (height by width by depth) of each device What is the maximum working temperature of each device What is the power (heat) dissipation of each device What is the maximum ambient temperature (without sun radiation) in the area of installation Passive cooling Active cooling The energy given off by the active components warms the inner metal shell. The cooler air circulating between the inner and outer shells (chimney effect) leads the heat out over the roof. To enhance the cooling effect and to avoid hot spots, fans should be used to increase air circulation. • No ingress of dust or humidity • Plastic outer shell reduces influence of solar radiation Heat is dissipated by placing a cooling device inside the roof. This environmental module increases the dissipation of heat. Roof fan (forced aeration) • • • Fans increase air speed in space between outer and inner wall, increasing the rate of heat removal No ingress of dust or humidity Compartment is IP55 protected Air-to-Air heat exchanger • • Absorbs heat of internally and externally circulated air Basic components include: 1 Heat exchanger 2 Internal fan 3 Outer fan 4 Control board 5 Connectors 6 Temperature sensor Air conditioner • • • Separate air flow circuits prevent ingress of dust and humidity Inner air circuit transfers heat from the inside of the cabinet to the vaporisation unit Outer air circuit transfers the heat from the condenser unit to the outside Optional Accessories Frame for ETSI and 19” components • • • • Includes mounting hardware Two mounting rails (ETSI/19”) with metric pitch satisfying DIN 43356 and 19” width (ASA) Usable height: 21 RU (38 SU) (933.45mm) Four PROFIL rods with a 12.5mm pitch for individual installation of the mounting rails at various depths Pivoting frame • • • • • For installation of ETSI or 19” chassis Dimensions (H x W): 1000mm x 540mm (590mm) Usable height: 21 RU (38 SU) (933.45mm) Maximum installation height: 370mm Maximum permissible load: 50kg Cable head frame • • For cable head 1-, 2- and 3- bay: Up to 300 pairs Series 2 or 400 pairs NT modules For PROFIL 3-bay: for mounting in ETSI frame of different heights (200, 600, 800mm) Fan system for forced aeration • • • • Installed in roof of Unicab-Vario cabinet 48 VDC Temperature regulated Thermal output: 20 to 27 W/K with maximum noise of 45 dB(A) Air-to-air heat exchanger • • • • • Installed in roof of Unicab-Vario cabinet 48 VDC Temperature regulated Thermal output: (depending on cabinet and heat exchanger) Typically 26W/K (50dBA) … 87W/K (50dBA) Optional integrated temperature-controlled heating element available: 230V/950W Air conditioner • • • • • Installs in roof of Unicab-Vario cabinet 230 VAC/17A Temperature regulated Specific thermal output: 1300W for 45 C/45 C Optional integrated temperature-regulated heating element available: 230V/950W Power distribution • • • • • • Includes mounting hardware and earthing kit Various sub-distributions with quick-acting fuses, equipment supply outlets and up to a maximum of 5 electrical circuits over an automatic circuit breaker in accordance with DIN/VDE 0100 Available with optional housing for installation of electrical meter and a housing to accommodate a low-voltage power fuse 19” chassis (3RU), for energy distribution, custom-configurable Energy distribution components must be ordered separately Battery trays • Can be installed like a drawer, or in fixed position base plates Base plates • Available with cable inlets of various designs Door contact • Signals that a door is open or closed Product Specifications Empty Cabinet Electrical characteristics Heat dissipation capacity Passive (convective ventilation) Active (with air-to-air heat exchanger) Active (with cooling equipment) 10 W / K to 18 W / K 45 W / K 1200 W (45 K / 45 K) Temperature characteristics Ambient temperature -40ºC to +50ºC Mechanical characteristics Plastic shell (outer housing) Plinth cover Seals Flammability class Inner housing: Other parts Recycling Protection class (internal housing) Weight 1 door 2 doors 3 doors Cabinet ~115 kg ~150 kg ~185 kg Fibreglass reinforced polycarbonate, painted grey (similar to RAL 7038) Fibreglass reinforced polycarbonate, unpainted Santoprene UL94V0 Chrome-plated aluminium Stainless steel or steel, galvanised and chrome-plated Materials can be separated for recycling IP 55 according to IEC 529 Plinth ~51 kg ~60 kg ~75 kg Ordering information Description Catalogue number Unicab-Vario 1050, one door cabinet (door equipped with pivoted locking handle with double locking mechanism, for installation of two half profile cylinders).
