We find our identity and mission in Jesus Christ and His Gospel. We celebrate our life as Catholic Christians in word, worship, and service. By recognizing our baptism, we accept our call to personal renewal and reach out with the gospel message to families and individuals, extending an invitation to fellowship with us. 5800 East Santa Ana Canyon Road, Anaheim, CA 92807 ‐ (714) 974‐1416 Fax: 714-974-9630 email: [email protected] Website: sanantoniochurch.org Parish Office Hours: Mon-Fri, 8:00 am to 12:00 noon & 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, 8:00 am to 1:00 pm San Antonio de Padua del Cañon Catholic Church Today’s Readings Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7. Psalm 29 Acts 10:34-38 Mark 1:7-11 Page 2 Year B January 11, 2015 The Baptism of the Lord THE WATERS OF BAPTISM When new sod is put in, it needs constant saturation with water. Landscapers say that this “knits” the sod to the soil. The same when a branch is grafted onto a tree: the poultice that joins them at the splice must be kept wet at all times. Water is the stuff that binds the very cells of our bodies together. No wonder religions throughout all times and cultures have used it so prominently. When Jesus stepped into the Jordan for baptism, he “knit” himself to what had come before him. By going to the Jordan, he made himself one with the people of Israel who had crossed it into their Promised Land. With John the Baptist, Christ wove himself into the prophetic tradition that heralded the coming reign of God. He had become fully human in the waters of Mary’s womb, and by partaking in the rite of the baptism of repentance, Jesus identified himself with our sinful, frail humanity. It is through the waters of baptism that Christ continues to graft new members onto his Body, the Church; through these waters we are cleansed from sin and filled with the promise of grace, given our destiny for eternal life. For us, as for Jesus, it is also the waters of baptism that inaugurate our mission to proclaim the Good News. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Some had very serious surgeries in Anchorage and were recovering at home. One family also wanted me to bless their house as they felt a bad presence there. I prayed that St. Michael position him- self in the most prominent place at the front door and the Guardian Angels in the girl’s room……. To read more on this story and other stories from Fr. Joe in Alaska, please contact the Parish Office at (714) 974-1416, please leave your name and email address. Through them we are reminded that, in life, we must be willing to coach and be coached. Life is never the same once you’ve seen Utopia. J. Windham: “Utopia has a Christian themed message, but it’s not the ‘beat you over the head’ kind. It is really just a good life-lesson that would apply to anyone, anywhere, regardless of religion.” Bring a friend and join us: All adults of the parish are invited to join us on Tuesday, January 13. We will be showing the movie “Seven Days in Utopia”. It’s about influence, inspiration and a deeper, more profound way of looking at life and life’s decisions. Told through the lives of two characters - an eccentric rancher with a passion for teaching truth, and a young golf professional at the end of his rope looking to escape the pressures of the game - Tuesday, November 13, 2015 7:00 pm, in the Religious Education Center’s, MPR We don’t have a balcony, but the SNACK BAR is OPEN!
