BERITA RAFOC Meneruskan Semangat Setiakawan Di Kalangan Pegawai-Pegawai Angkatan Tentera Yang Telah Bersara Continuing the Esprit-de-Corps Amongst the Retired Armed Forces Officers SRL 04/ 2015 FOR MEMBERS ONLY OCT - DEC 2015 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT A “HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016” and may the year 2016 bring continued good health and happiness to us and our families. Likewise, may the year 2016 bring further progress to RAFOC in its objects and activities. The last quarter 2015 saw three major activities organised by RAFOC. The “Annual Golf“ was successfuly held in October, the “Deepavali Lunch” in November and the “Annual Dinner” in December. I am pleased to note that all these activities were well participated and supported by our members and other retired Armed Forces officers. Our Executive Committee was kept busy during the quarter. In addition to the committee meetings, representatives from our committee attended a discussion organised by JHEV to prepare a blueprint on the Armed Forces veterans for the Minister of Defence and a briefing on the registration of the Armed Forces veterans’ associations/clubs with JHEV as required by the Akta Veteran 2012. In addition, representatives from our committee continued to visit our members and other retired Armed Forces officers in HAT Tuanku Mizan, Kuala Lumpur during the quarter. Our Deepavali Lunch, Annual Dinner and Golf Sub-Committees were also kept busy organising their respective activities during the quarter. Our RAFOC Secretariat continued to provide information to our members on the activities of RAFOC as well as news on our members and other retired Armed Forces officers via the internet, website, whatsapp and sms. On membership, I am pleased to welcome another 14 retired Armed Forces officers as new members of RAFOC during the quarter. At the same time, I note with sadness the passing of six of our retired Armed Forces officers during the quarter. 2015 was another good year for RAFOC. We were able to hold our normal activities less the scheduled forum and the gof game with the Alumni PTD. 70 new members registered during the year, thus increasing our membership total to 694 members (less 47 who are no longer with us) as at 31 December 2015. I trust 2016 will continue to be another good year. The Executive Committee will discuss the activities to be held in 2016 at our next committee meeting. Nontheless RAFOC will continue to hold the activities held in 2015 and possibily with one or two other activities. Financially, our funds are good enough to keep RAFOC going for the year 2016, with the surplus from our Annual Dinner and other donations/contributions in 2015. The committee is looking for ways to improve our financial standing for the long term objects of our Association. I welcome solutions from members on this matter. On membership, our membership is still small compared to the number of the Armed Forces officers who have since retired or left the Armed Forces. I urge members to assist to get their intake members who are still not members to register as members. We need to increase our membership so that RAFOC can truly represent the retired Armed Forces officers’ community. Thank you for your particiption and support during the year 2015 and I look forward to your continued participation and support in the year 2016. Till we meet, Salam Setiakawan! JENERAL TAN SRI DATUK DR. MOHD GHAZALI BIN DATO’ MOHD SETH, (Besara) President BERITA RAFOC 04 / 2015 1 RETIRED ARMED FORCES OFFICERS’ ANNUAL GOLF - 2015 The “Retired Armed Forces Officers’ Annual Golf 2015" (Organised By RAFOC) was successfully held on Tuesday, 27 October 2015 at Nilai Springs Golf & Country Club, Bandar Baru Nilai. Nearly 200 members and their wives/families turned up. The lunch was to provide the occasion for our members to get together and to facilitate our Hindu members to host a “Deepavali Lunch” for the other RAFOC members and their wives/families. Prior to the lunch proper, from 1100 to 1215 hours, an updated briefing/discussion on “The Terms & Benefits of Our Retirement” was held. Unfortunately only 30 or so members and their wives attended the briefing which was chaired by our Brig Jen Dato’ Adnan bin Ali, (Bersara), Committee Member/Chairman of our Retirement Sub-Committee. The briefing was well presented by Mej Nor Shamsinar, SO2 Pencen, JRP. Also present were Kol Hamdan bin Yaccob, Pengarah Operasi, JRP, Armed Forces HQ and Mej Rahim bin Musa, SO Pencen, JHEV. A number of issues were raised by those present, which will be addressed by the representatives from JRP and JHEV. The arrival of our RAFOC President, Jen Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. Mohd Ghazali bin Dato’ Mohd Seth, (Bersara) was met with the beating of the “nadeswaram” traditional music. This was followed by the lighting of the Deepavali light by Tan Sri Mohd Ghazali, as the guest of honour. The turnout was very encouraging indeed and was more than expected, some brought their grand-children along. Many who came were first timers to our RAFOC gathering and to the mess. Amongst those present were three mantan PAT and two mantan PTD. It was good to see amongst others, Lt Kol Tan Siew Soo, (Bersara) and wife, Kol I. Natarajan, (Bersara), who is already 90, Lt Jen Dato’ Seri Mohd Daud bin Abu Bakar, (Bersara) and his son and the many who were ever present in all our RAFOC activities. The food was super, befitting the “Deepavali Lunch” and were more than enough for all - Indian dishes and delicacies ala stall service plus two roasted lambs, sponsored by Mej Dato’ S. The event did not end until near 1600 hours with Tan Sri Mohd Shahrom and his family being the last to turn up. BERITA RAFOC 04 / 2015 All in all it was another good RAFOC gathering where members met each other, to acquaint anew. Eight Air Force cadets underwent training in the Air Training Centre, KL Base and were commission on 8 September 1965. One retired as Mej Jen, two as Lt Kol, two as Mej and three as Kapt. Two have since left us. One was at the dinner to be recognised. OTHERS In addition to those mentioned above, there were also a number who were commissioned directly as PD List officers (Doctors, Engineers and Education Officers), as well as other General Duty officers, Workshop Executive Officers and Quartermasters in the year 1965. Unfortunately, we do not have the records of these officers at present. Our RAFOC Secretariat is working with JRP to get the list for our future recognitions. All in all, it was a good event, held as part of the programme for the Annual Dinner. RAFOC will continue to recognise the retired Armed Forces officers who were commissioned 50 years since the year of the annual dinner. In 2016, RAFOC will recognise those who were commissioned in 1966. But the recognition will only be accorded to those who will be at the dinner. Lt Kol Tengku Ismit bin Tengku Suleiman - SSC 07 Jen Tan Sri Ahmad Saruji bin Che Ros, TUDM - SSC 07 To those who were commissioned 50 years ago in 1965, we wish them nostalgic memories of their training days and the day they were commissioned. (Note: The above facts and figures may not be 100% correct. Our RAFOC Secretariat welcome any comments and corrections on and from the above intakes).
