Dear MZ Staff,
I’m sure you have realised how quickly the year has passed us
by! It is already mid year and I am sure that most of you (as
I am!) are just amazed at how fast the months have flown by!
The last financial year has paved the way for improvements
at MZ. As you are aware, the PJ HQ façade upgrade project
is almost complete (thank goodness!). After some minor
hiccups, Wisma MZ is finally looking very stately after
her extensive renovations and to top it off, the New Life
Core (NLC) project is also approaching its final stages of
completion. At the moment it is at the tail-end of the user
testing phase and will soon go live. This is certainly one of the
most awaited events in MZ as the NLC replaces our legacy
system and in doing so, will help to raise our service delivery
capabilities , enchance user-friendliness, improve security as
well as our efficiency and productivity with its new features.
In addition to all these positive enhancements, MZ was
recognised as a Champion for the Service to Care Awards
in the Life Insurance industry, for our excellence in customer
service. We received this award from MarkPlus Inc. in April
2012. A big round of congratulations goes to all involved
in the culmination of this award, especially to our customer
service personnel and our agency force. Your have certainly
done us proud!
This financial year’s accomplishments are certainly something
we can all be proud of. The manner in which we ended the
financial year 2011/12 was certainly commendable. I thank
you for coming together as a team, as we always have, to push
harder to make sure we achieved our business targets. I am
glad that we all worked in sync with one another to push
not only ourselves to realize our personal goals, but also the
company towards realizing its business objectives! These past
several months were tough, but as Theodore Roosevelt once
said, “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance
to work hard at work worth doing”. And making sure that
MZ stays on top of its goals is certainly, in my opinion, work
worth doing! So let me congratulate each and every one of you
for achieving your personal, (and ultimately, the company’s)
goals for the last financial year. Thank you Team MZ!
In conclusion, let me give you a little sneak peek of some of
the exciting happenings planned at MZ over the next few
months. The financial year of 2012/2013 sees the culmination
and launching of many of our large initiatives. We had the
Performance Rewards Booklet Launch along with the
CEO
Message
launching of our latest fund, the MZ Asia Pacific Ethical
Dividend ETF Fund in early July, the MZ HQ 40 years
anniversary and building re-launch celebrations somewhere
in end September along with the launching of our office
green initiative in line with the celebrations. These are but
some of the fun activities planned for the new financial year
with many more to come over the next few months. I am
sure you would all now look forward to these celebrations
which is not only a sign of our commitment to the Company
and all our stakeholders, but also the excitement that we have
towards celebration of our rich history in Malaysia. I hope
that you will enjoy these celebrations!
Keep Your Eyes Peeled and Ears Open For These Exciting
Events in 2012/2013
Look out for information on these new initiatives in the
following weeks:
i) MZ HQ building anniversary and re-launch celebrations end September 2012
ii) Launch of our off ice green initiative which includes our mini
rainforest launching - end September 2012
iii)New billboards in Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Kelantan
Thank you.

National Agency
12-14 February 2012
convention
T
he Life Insurance Division had organized a three-day National Agency
Convention at the Bayview Beach Resort, Penang on the 12 until 14 February
2012. Attendees were those who were the MZ 2010/2011 club qualifiers and the
National Agency Convention qualifiers for the period of July until December 2011. It
was a glorious event where qualifiers who lodged at Bayview Beach Resort and Hard
Rock Hotel took part in several exciting programmes.
The convention began with the award presentation for MZ MDC, MZ Star and MZ
Premier Qualifiers. Approximately more than 200 agents qualified for these awards.
The first day became more interesting when the NAC qualifiers were celebrated in a
splendid gala dinner. The Awards presentation was held that night with the most notable
award being presented, the Chairman Award, which was awarded to Mr Alex Yee. Four
of the Convention Achievers; Mr Alex Yee, Yg Bhg Datuk Hj Mohamad Fazil Bin
Shafie, Hajah Zahrah Omar and Ms Ling Ai Lee were reportedly quite pleased at being
driven across the stage on easy-rider motorbikes. Later, they were entertained with a
beautiful medley of songs by Siti Sarah, a celebrated local singer.
The subsequent day, participants attended motivational talks by a guest speaker, Mr
Allan See. This energetic and powerful motivational session was continued by break-
[6]
out sessions conducted in Bahasa Melayu
by Hj Fazil Yusof, Tamil session by Mr
Paandi Durai and Chinese session by
Dato’ Dr Chua. A garden-themed dinner
party witnessed participants decked out
in very classy vintage outfits to suit the
theme ‘Retro Night’. It certainly brought
back memories to some people to see a
few P. Ramlees, Salomas and even an
Elvis Presley mingling among the crowd!
Lucky draws added much surprises and
fun to the event and much happiness
clearly radiated on the face of participants
who won the lucky draws.
The three-day convention was without
doubt the best one yet and hopefully the
participants left this program with great
memories!
Participants excited about their creations

RecruitersAwardNite
2012
The Life Training Department had organized the first ever
Recruiters Award Nite 2011, on the 3rd until 4th February
2012, in conjunction with the Empowering Recruitment Camp
conducted in September 2011. This award dinner was conducted
as an appreciation for Chief Agency Managers and Unit
Managers who qualified for the recruitment competition. The
pre-requisites to qualify for this award were that they manage
to recruit a minimum of two agents within the specified time
frame. This is certainly no mean feat in this day and age! This
tremendous Recruiters Award Nite was held at the prestigious
Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur and qualifiers were given a chance
to enjoy one-night stay at the hotel.
It was a great honour for us to have our CEO, En Md Adnan
Md Zain giving the keynote address. This award dinner were
also attended by Mr C Kumaran, GM of LID and Mr Teng Swee
Hin, AGM of LBD. There were three categories of appreciation,
[8]
those who qualified for certificates, cash incentives, and top
recruiters in each session of training. The night was memorable
with delicious foods and filled with joyous moments together.
The event was continued on the next day with ‘Leadership
and Recruitment Talk’ presented by an international speaker,
Mr Erik Vos from Holland. Hopefully this event could lead
participants to greater heights in their future recruitment drives.

Focus on MZ Agency personnel
interview with
alex yee
We Make Things Happen
Alex Yee joined MCIS Zurich in
1991 and started his insurance
career as an agent in Malacca.
Up until the year 2000, his
achievements were not as
what as he expected. Even
though his dreams at
that point were
not fulfilled, he
maintained
his
positivity, “I didn’t
think much about
it and complained, because
I knew if I didn’t change,
my future will be in dark.
If I change, I still have the
chance to fight and earn
a better future and living,”
Alex said.
In the year 2001, starting
from zero, he left Malacca
with his family and
went to Kuala Lumpur
to start a new journey
in insurance business.
Their sacrifices moving
to Kuala Lumpur
turned out to
be the greatest
decision as his
business grew by
40 times compare
to previously.
[ 10 ]
My Future Plan
In 2010/11, he made RM 11 million FYP
(100% OL). Alex said, “Now, I’m planning
to bring Excel 116 to a higher level. If
we don’t move forward, we will be left
further behind. Currently, besides the
Klang Valley, I’m planning to expand my
business to Johor Bahru and Penang. At
this moment, money is not a big issue
because what we want is to achieve a
higher level and create history. I want
to achieve RM 16 million FYP in 2011/12
financial year and am targeting the
recruitment of 100 agents.”
My Success Factor
For me, self-confidence and courage
are the essential factors of my success.
In order to succeed, we must have the
courage to grasp every opportunity in
front of us before its too late. Hesitation
equals to failure!

CHINESE
NEW YEAR
GATHERING
I
n line with MZ’s tradition of
celebrating major festivals, HR
once again organized the Chinese New Year Gathering 2012. This auspicious
celebration which marked the beginning of the Dragon Year was held at Shah’s
Village Hotel located at Lorong Sultan, one of the earliest prominent resorts in
the city of Petaling Jaya.
The event was kicked off with a Lion Dance Performance performed by a group
of youngsters to welcome all staff, Management and the Board of Directors.
Guests attending the gathering had a pleasant time enjoying the performance
held at the patio of the hotel and enjoyed a wide choice of delicacies spread out
in the coffee house and by the pool side.
We also hope that everyone will take heed of our CEO’s speech whereby he
expressed his hope that this Dragon Year will bring more prosperity to everyone
in the organization and urged all staff to work harder
and keep a healthy lifestyle in the coming year!

INTER-DEPARTMENT FUTSAL GAMES 2012 -
REAL MARRIED BECAME
REAL CHAMPIONS!
K
udos to the MZ Recreation Club for successfully organizing a truly
electrifying futsal game which took place on 17 March 2012 at
the DeSamba Futsal Centre, Petaling Jaya.
The game saw 8 teams from various departments and agents of
MCIS Zurich Insurance’s Life and General divisions vying for the
attractive cash and hamper prizes offered to the best teams.
The 8 teams were separated into two Groups where eventually 1
team from each group faced off in the Final Match.
CLASH OF THE TITANS!
The Finalists that emerged were Real Married versus Decepticons!
It was a clash of teams from both spectrums of the Insurance
Divisions i.e. the General Insurance Division versus the Life
Insurance Division. All MZ personnel present were up in arms,
supporting their favourite final teams, as the two teams clashed.
Both teams were equally good
and managed to hold each
other at a goalless draw - right
until the final few minutes
of the first half of the game
when the inevitable happened!
The hero of the day, Hafiz
Alias, scored the ONLY goal
of the match for team Real
Married! The goal was a true
demonstration of the team’s
coordinated and well-executed
strategy to break through
Decepticons’ tight defences.
The goal sealed the match for Real Married as team Decepticons
was not able to recover from their loss.
Congratulations to the match Champions and other winners of
the game!
At the end of the day, the match was just
not about competition, but proved to be a
good platform for staffs of various divisions
to bond and develop sense of team spirit
and unity.
Good job again to the MZ Recreation Club
for organizing a great game!

MZ TOUR
AS
part the company’s initiative on
Corporate Social Responsibilities
(CSR), MZ Tour was organized on 20
December 2011. Staff of Head Office was
invited to join the tour with the objectives
of getting closer to staff at branches and
meeting agents and customers with visits to
the Homes of underprivileged citizens. This
is in line with our MZ slogan ‘Touching the
Lives of All’.
Seremban and Melaka
The inaugural tour took the staff to
Seremban and Melaka with main stops
made at the two branches there. The
Southern Regional Manager had been
a great host and coordinated the event
at both branches. A few Chief Agency
Managers (CAM) and Unit Managers
(UM) gathered at the branches to
welcome 19 Head Office staff who
joined the trip. Get-to-know session
was held as Seremban with contribution
given to several orphans who turned up
at the branch.
On the way to Melaka Branch, the
participants stopped by at a Children’s
[ 14 ]
Spastic Home near Bukit Baru, Melaka.
The participants had an emotional
experience seeing 60 children at the home
who are handicapped and abandoned
by their parents. They were greeted and
briefed by the caretaker on the condition
of the home and type of conditions that
the children were suffering from. At
the end of the tour, the participants, on
behalf of MZ Management, handed over
goods as part of the contribution from
the company. The staff then paid a short
visit to the Melaka branch where they
had a brief ‘get-to-know’ session with the
branch staff.
Perak
The Human Resources department had on 23 February 2012 organised the
MZ Tour to Teluk Intan and Ipoh Branch. This one day trip ferried 17 staff
from various departments in the MZ head office to meet up with branch staff
and agents in both branches. Part of the tour included a visit to a charity
home at each town with the respective branch managers, executives and
Chief Agency Managers (CAM).
In Teluk Intan, the tour made a stopover at Rumah Titian Ashratul Rohaniah
which houses around 58 under-privileged individuals ranging from the age
of 3 months to 60 years old. The staff participating in the trip were briefed by
the principal and caretaker of the Home, Puan Rohana who quit her job in one
of the big corporations in KL to dedicate her life to helping the less fortunate.
The staff spent some time talking to the residents of the home and handed
over some basic provisions to the caretaker as a contribution.
The staff then continued the journey on to Ipoh where they were warmly greeted by
the branch staff, manager and the CAMs. They had a get to know session with the
agents and a brief tour of the Ipoh branch. The final stop of the journey was at the
Salvation Army Home which houses around 40 old folks ranging from the age of 67 to
98. The old folks gave the MZ staff a warm welcome by cheering and singing together.
Both staff and the folks living at the Salvation Army spent some time talking to each
other. Many of the old folks were truly excited to receive visitors and expressed their
appreciation on the visit and also. Just before leaving the Salvation Army, the MZ staff
participating in the tour provided packed
lunches and the necessary provisions for
the use of the old folks.

MZ I-Linked Enhancement
Motivational Seminar 2012
T
he Life Training Department had organized the MZ I-Link
Enhancement Motivational Seminar 2012. The seminar
was held in batches for all MZ agents over the weekends
in the month of May 2012. The objective of this program was
to motivate agents to further boost sales within the crucial two
month period before the closing of the 2011/2012 financial
year. These seminars had been conducted based on a regional
basis across Peninsular Malaysia.
For the central region, more than 250 agents turned up and
it was a “full house” event at Singgahsana Hotel. The seminar
for the Southern region was conducted at the Bayview Hotel,
Malacca with more than 100 participants followed by the East
Coast region where it was held at the Sutera Inn, Kota Bharu
with 83 participants. The final leg of the seminar was held at
the Park Avenue Hotel, Sungai Petani, with more than 120
agents participating in this program.
The General Manager of Life Insurance Division, Mr. C Kumaran
and the MZ Chief Investment Officer, En Wan Mohd Fakruddin
were on hand at each event to give support and motivation to
all the agents and provided updates on the development of a
new fund at MZ. In addition to this, we had invited speakers
such as En. Nor Zahidi and En. Nurhisham who updated and
enhanced the knowledge of our audience on key aspects
macro economics in Malaysia. In the agenda, we also outlined
these exciting talks at the respective regions with motivational
speakers in Tamil and Bahasa Melayu.
The key objective of these seminars was to drive the
investment-linked insurance product sales and gear-up our
agency force for the financial year ending. The achievement
of AP 20 million for the month of May 2012 was a testament to
the uplifting effect of the motivational talks. This is in addition
to the investment-linked business volume which saw an
appreciation of 30% of the total business volume.
We are confident that the turn-around in the sales growth will
further continue and certainly look forward to the definitive
results which outline the achievement of the agency force.
