Featherquill embroidery
is an old craft and was mainly used to decoate wide leather belts. With the narrow strips cut from the feather quills of
a peacock tail, the embroidery is executed on to the leather, following a pre-drawn ornamental pattern. The fine holes
made with an awl have to be stabbed very precisely to avoid the tearing of leather as the quill strip is pulled through.
His favourite projects are money purses, wallets and all kinds of ladies handbags. Besides the quill embroidery L. Thaler
has developed a technique of natural leaf impressions on leather witch he combines with carving and tooling.
