The group’s products are primarily used to control, direct and measure the flow of oil and gas as it is moved from individual wellheads through flow lines, gathering lines and transmission systems to refineries, petrochemical plants and industrial centers for processing. The Engineered & Process Valves division provides a wide range of valves for use in natural gas, LNG, crude oil and refined products transmission lines. The traditional CAMERON® fully-welded ball valve product line has been combined with the GROVE®, RING-O®, TOM WHEATLEY®, ENTECH™ and TK® product lines. This broad offering has significantly strengthened Cameron’s ability to serve as a single source for a wide scope of customer requirements. The division also provides critical service valves for refinery, chemical and petrochemical processing businesses and for associated storage terminal applications, particularly through the ORBIT® and GENERAL VALVE®. These brands are complimented by WKM®, TBV™ and Texsteam™ valve products and considerably expand the scope of this division’s product offerings. The WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valve’s smooth continuous bore minimizes turbulence. In full bore valves pressure drop is no more than through an equal length of the same size pipe. Seat faces are outside the flow stream and thus protected from contact with the lading whether the valve is open or closed. The WKM Sat-T-Seal gate valve’s full round bore makes it possible to run pigs, scrapers or hot tap cutters through the valves without danger of damaging the valve, lodging the scraper, or jamming it with metal cutting. CT-WKM-GATE-SAF-T-SEAL-01 01/11-SWP-3M WKM® 5 ENGINEERED & PROCESS VALVES WKM® SAF-T-SEAL® API 6D THROUGH CONDUIT GATE VALVES DESIGN The WKM Saf-T-Seal valve’s through conduit design provides these specific advantages resulting in reliable performance and long life: Protection of Seat Faces • S eat faces are outside the flow stream and in full contact with the gate, in both fully open and fully closed positions. Seat life is thus greatly extended. Smooth, Continuous Conduit for Flow • estructive turbulence is D eliminated. In a full bore valve, pressure drop through the valve is no greater than that through an equal length of equal diameter pipe. Block-and-Bleed Capability • T he valve in closed position forms a tight mechanical seal on both seats simultaneously, which allows the body cavity to be bled. Commonly Used Applications • • • • ainline and manifold valves in M liquids pipelines Storage wells (salt domes, etc.) Water flood Safety valves (Emergency Shutdown Valves - ESD. Pipelines, wellheads and salt domes. “SLS” Stem Seal Seal is self adjusting and does not depend on plastic packing Blowout proof stem with backseat Metal wave spring to ensure a bubble-tight seal Full bore through conduit design eliminates turbulence WKM Saf-T-Seal Valve Model C6B 6 in. - 12 in. (150 mm - 300 mm) Class 600 - 900 6 WKM® CT-WKM-GATE-SAF-T-SEAL-01 01/11-SWP-3M ENGINEERED & PROCESS VALVES WKM® SAF-T-SEAL® API 6D THROUGH CONDUIT GATE VALVES OPERATING PRINCIPLES The WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valve is a simple, yet rugged and reliable, through conduit gate valve. It utilizes two floating seats to provide a complete seal with the gate. Each seat contains a metal seat face plus a peripheral seal. The full bore design has the same pressure drop as an equivalent length of pipe and allows passage of all types of scrapers (pigs). The body center section is cast as a single piece to provide the necessary strength to resist pipeline bending moments. At very low pressure, the rear wave spring urges the seat toward the gate to provide an initial seal. A plastic face seal helps initialize the seal and provides a wiping action to help keep the gate sealing surfaces free of debris. High temperature valves do not have the insert. The gate is pressed metal-to-metal against the wide flat seat face at higher pressures. Likewise, the seat is pressed metal-tometal to the body at the higher pressure. The seat faces are outside of the flow stream and thus protected when the valve is in the full open or closed position. Excess body pressure is automatically vented to the upstream conduit by the seat. External body cavity relief systems are not required. WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valves do not depend on lubricant for a seal in normal operation. However, lubricants / sealants can be injected to promote smooth operation. Seat sealant can also be injected to affect a seal in an emergency should the seats become damaged due to foreign matter. The stem is sealed by the Cameron SLS Stem Seal System. Refer to page 7 for details. The bonnet seal is made by an O-ring. High temperature valves use a spiral wound metal gasket with a non-asbestos filler. The valve stroke is established by manufacturing tolerances and cannot get out of adjustment. WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valves are supplied with indicator rods for position indication as a standard for handwheel and bevel gear operated valves. WKM Saf-T-Seal Options are: • Available with handwheel operators, bevel gear operators, or less gearing (bare stem). In full bore valves pressure drop is no more than through an equal length of the same size pipe. Seat faces are outside the flow stream and thus protected from contact with the lading whether the valve is open or closed. The WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valve’s full round bore makes it possible to run pigs, scrapers or hot tap cutters through the valves without danger of damaging the valve, lodging the scraper, or jamming it with metal cutting. Double-Sealing Replaceable Seats Seats can be removed and replaced while the valve is in the line. Seats are provided with plastic inserts and thus affect a double seal, an initial plastic-to-metal seal in addition to a metal-to-metal that seals both, upstream and downstream. Gate and Stems On-Line Overhaul WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valves can be overhauled right on the line. Gate, seats and other internal parts can be removed and replaced by a trained serviceman without excessive shutdown time. WKM Saf-T-Seal gates and stems are Nickel Plated. HF-6 overlay is available on request for the gate and seat sealing surfaces. Extensions For valves which are to be buried, operated from a catwalk, or otherwise difficult to reach, stem and body fitting extensions can be supplied in virtually any desired length in 6 in. increments from the minimum extension length that can be furnished. Extensions come as original equipment or can be field-installed on valves already in service. 8 WKM® CT-WKM-GATE-SAF-T-SEAL-01 01/11-SWP-3M ENGINEERED & PROCESS VALVES WKM® SAF-T-SEAL® API 6D THROUGH CONDUIT GATE VALVES MODELS C6, C2B AND C2C Excellent Block-and-Bleed Capability – Automatic Relief of Excess Body Pressure 1. With equal pressure through the valve, and gate in closed position, an initial seal (1) is formed with the raised plastic ring on the faces of the seats. The seat inserts clean both sides of the gate each time the valve is opened or closed. 2. As line pressure (2) is applied to the valve, it acts on the gate, forcing it against the plastic ring on the downstream seat, compressing it until the gate rests against the steel seat. Thus, a double seal is formed – First, a plastic-to-metal seal; then metal-to-metal. The seal is also forced firmly into its recess. The O-ring (3) prevents any downstream flow at this point. 3. An upstream seal is provided when body pressure is bled off. This is caused by the force of line pressure acting against the upstream seat (4) moving the seat against the gate and providing a tight plastic-to-metal seal at this point. At the same time, the O-ring (5) forms a tight seal with the seat recess. 4. Valve automatically relieves itself of excessive body pressure. When body pressure exceeds line pressure, from such causes as thermal expansion, the upstream seat is forced back into its recess and the excess pressure in the body is bled between the seat and the gate into the line. Emergency Sealant Injection Seat face groove O-Ring Peripheral groove and sealant injection port Plastic insert WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valves do not depend on grease for a seal in normal operation. However, in the event of damage to sealing members, sealant can be injected to effect a seal until the valve can be repaired. In valves of the 6 in. (150 mm) size and larger, the sealant is pumped through body fittings directly into a groove on the face of the seat. In smaller valves the sealant is injected through fittings into the valve body. Re-Packing Under Pressure The WKM Saf-T-Seal gate valve is equipped with Cameron “SLS” stem packing in an enclosed packing box. Plastic stem packing can be added while the valve is under pressure in case of an emergency. Description The SLS Stem Seal is a system designed to provide optimum performance with a minimum of maintenance. This seal is hydrocarbon fugitive emissions tested and has demonstrated seal ability not to exceed 500 ppm leakage. The SLS Stem Sealing System has passed Fire Tests per API 6FA, BS 6755 Part 11, and ISO 10497.* It consists of the following: • Single Spring Loaded Lip Seal • Lantern Ring • Chevron Ring(s) • Lower Pedestal • Upper Adapter * Editions in effect at the time of testing. Note: Model C6B Saf-T-Seal Only. Model C6B Details The Single Spring Loaded Lip Seal (SLS) is a self-adjusting seal that is designed to be maintenance free. It does not depend on plastic packing to seal. The SLS Seal consists of a shell and a metal spring. The shell contains four (4) separate sealing bands to promote reliability. It is made of a filled PTFE compound which is compatible with virtually all media/ ladings. The metal spring provides the initial seal and provides uniform loading over a wide temperature range. It is made from a corrosion resistant alloy making it suitable for most all line media. The lantern ring acts as a spacer and along with the upper adapter, acts as a bearing to center the stem. The lower pedestal supports the SLS Seal and acts as a stem scraper to keep contaminants away from the sealing members. The Chevron ring(s) provide a seal should it be necessary to inject plastic packing and helps keep foreign matter away from the seal. The system works without a plastic injectable. In an emergency, plastic packing can be injected into the packing box to affect a temporary seal while the valve is under pressure. Metal upper adapter centers the stem Vee ring(s) provide a seal should it be necessary to inject plastic packing and acts as a wiper. Metal lantern ring centers the stem and acts as a spacer. Pedestal supports the SLS Stem Seal, and acts as a wiper to keep contaminants away from the seals. SLS Seal is fugitive emissions tested, compatible with most media / ladings and is fire tested to API 6FA. Metal spring provides and initial seal. (50 mm), 3 in. (80 mm) and 4 in. (100 mm) nominal gate valves (Family Group Code Y55012). The new Cameron Saf-T-Gard diaphragm actuator product line has been developed by using the superior features of field proven products and then combining them with innovative technology. Particular attention has been given to safety, ease of maintenance and cost of manufacturing. The Cameron pneumatic diaphragm actuator series is designed to be used with all manufacturer’s gate valves in nominal sizes of 2 in. to 6 in. (50 mm to 150 mm). Its simple design and operating principle make this diaphragm actuator inherently trouble free, avoiding most of the problems such as galling, misalignment, distortion and O-ring failures commonly associated with piston type actuators. Design Advantages Stronger Actuator Mounting Arrangement Unlike other designs, the mounting bolts on Cameron actuators are positioned parallel to the center line of the actuator, which loads the mounting bolts in tension. This design is not subject to bending and shear forces; hence, withstanding greater separation forces than other actuators on the market. Corrosion Resistant Materials All Cameron diaphragm actuators are manufactured to NACE MR0175, in addition all non-stainless components are coated with Xylan to maximize corrosion resistance. Superior Diaphragm Design Cameron diaphragm material is stronger than most designs currently on the market, resulting in extended service life and higher operating pressures. Unique sealing grooves provide additional grip and improve the outer seal of the diaphragm housing. The Saf-T-Gard diaphragm actuators are interchangeable with other models in the product line, which minimizes the amount of spare parts necessary for maintenance. Note that this is an estimation only because of assumptions made in the valve stroke as well as unpredictable flow characteristics around the gate-seat bore in the partially open position. Gate valves are intended for on-off service. Intermittent throttling such as pressure equalization service is acceptable. Continuous throttling is not recommended. This information is provided only to facilitate the engineering of systems in the transition between open and closed positions of the valves. One example might be to evaluate the possibility of water hammer in liquid pipelines.
