COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK 12400 IMPERIAL HWY. – P.O. BOX 1024, NORWALK, CALIFORNIA 90651-1024/(562) 462-2716 CONNY B. McCORMACK REGISTRAR-RECORDER/COUNTY CLERK August 4, 2006 TO: EACH SUPERVISOR FROM: Conny B. McCormack, Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk TOUCHSCREEN EARLY VOTING SITES - NOVEMBER 7, 2006 GENERAL ELECTION Multiple election preparations are underway as the November 7, 2006 General Election is quickly approaching. We recently confirmed the availability of the same 17 locations for touchscreen early voting as were used for the June 6, 2006 Primary Election (see enclosed map for locations). This maintains the goal of consistency and familiarity of locations for those voters who choose this voting option. Since the November 2000 election when the County first introduced voters to the opportunity of voting prior to election day using touchscreen voting equipment, 189,470 voters have successfully cast their ballots electronically. The electronic ballot is available on the touchscreen in the voters’ choice of seven languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Additionally, voters who are disabled, including those who are blind or visually impaired, have the opportunity to cast a ballot privately and independently via the use of an audio headset or large-size zoom text. All of the selected sites provide ample parking with full access for disabled voters. Five of the early voting sites are located in County-owned facilities. The remaining locations continue the partnerships established with the cities of Beverly Hills, Calabasas, Culver City, Los Angeles, Monterey Park, Pasadena and Redondo Beach. The upcoming touchscreen early voting period will begin on Wednesday, October 25 and continue daily, including Saturdays and Sundays, through Friday, November 3, 2006. As in the past, information about the locations, dates and voting hours will be printed in all Sample Ballot booklets and posted on the Department’s website. Over the six years of this successful program, touchscreen early voting sites have been selected in concert with representatives of the department’s Community Voter Outreach Committee and with input from your deputies. If you would like further information about this ongoing program, please contact me or Chief Deputy Dean Logan at (562) 462-2883.
