Third times the charm
Sean Humphrey House’s 3rd Annual fiesta themed fundraiser was
a SUCCESS!! We had delicious
food from the Ramirez family and
wonderful music by Sabrina y Los
Reyes. The event was dubbed
Quince de Mayo...Quince is the
new Cinco. SHH was lucky
enough to have local improv extraordinaire Michael Watters as
our MC for the event (see below) . He
kept the crowd going with his costume changes ranging from a formal tuxedo to
a full pirate
costume. As
guests wined
and
dined
through the
evening we
auctioned off
trips to Key
son & Associates, Tin Rock Development, and Jan Bowman &
Associates.
The evening was a great success
thanks to all those who attended,
donated and helped plan the
event! We are extremely excited
about next year and look forward
Sabrina y Los Reyes
to the new additions we have alWest, Disneyland and Hawaii. The ready begun to plan.

Welcome Home Shasta
May has marked a new chapter in SHH history
as we welcomed our 2nd dog into the family!
For almost 9 years, we only had Sadie watching
over the house. She makes sure residents are
cared for, loved and keeps a good eye out for
any trespassing squirrels on the property. To
show our gratitude to Sadie, we decided to cut
back her work hours to add more R&R time.
With much help from Angie at Tails-a-Wagging
and the Whatcom Humane Society, we found a
black lab mix named Shasta. Although it took
her a little bit of time to get use to the
unique environment, she has adapted well.
Shasta ensures that everyone feels safe
and protects us especially from the flies.
She has even helped Sadie find her youthful side again. We couldn't be happier to
have her be a part of the Sean Humphrey
House Family.
In Memory
Sean Humphrey House has continually been blessed by amazing volunteers. It has come to our attention that earlier this year a very dear
volunteer, Lou Emerson, passed away. Last spring, Lou moved out of
state but for a few years she devoted a great deal time being a resident
companion and friend of SHH. It is a great loss and our thoughts are
with her friends and family.
Sadie’s Seasonal Wisdom:
“Get a bigger bone than you
can chew, then chew it.”
Bellingham Pride
Once again the Bellingham community will have a chance to
show their pride! This years pride
celebration marks the 10 year
anniversary in the Bellingham
community and is a 4 day celebration and support for the
LGBTQ community. The celebration includes a drag show, Queer
Family Picnic at Heritage Marine Park, a parade and festival
at the Depot Square.
SHH will once again be participating in the parade and festival! The parade begins at Bellingham High School and travels
downtown ending at the Depot
Square where local organizations
and business are participating in
the festival. The event gathers a
wide rage of groups and is always a wonderful time. For more
information about the pride festival and other events please visit:

Planting time!
We have been fortunate to have
many local farmers donate fresh
produce. This has
helped us provide
nutritional
balanced meals for
our residents. Thanks to Sean
Hall and members of Mosaic
Church, our own garden has
been started. Sean and his crew
purchased and planted peas, lettuces, green onions, tomatoes,
cabbages and
cucumbers.
They
spent
the day preparing
and
organizing the
beds. Though
the slugs seem
to be a bit more prominent this
year, we hope to have some
great produce fresh from our
garden which is tended not only
by the staff, but the residents as
well.

My Gratitude
Hello Friends! I can hardly believe that it has already been two
years since I met some of you. I
began working with SHH as a
volunteer for the first annual Cinco de Mayo fundraiser, what a
fateful night that was! I knew
immediately that the people involved with our organization are
some of the finest. I am delighted
to have had the opportunity to
work with you!
This month marks the end of my
two years as a board member, as
well as the end of my undergraduate career! While I am moving to
Seattle, I intend to stay involved
with the board and fundraising
committee to the extent that I
am able. The people I’ve met,
friends I’ve made, and memories
we’ve created have made a lasting
impact. This house will forever be
in my heart!
My favorite part of being a board
member has been the opportunity
to work with some of the most
dedicated and selfless people I
have ever met. We are truly lucky
as an organization to have the
kind of support that you all provide for us. You have truly inspired me, I look forward to a lifetime of giving back to my community and meeting more wonderful people like you!
Thank You!

A New Face at Sean Humphrey House
My name is Elle Peters and I am
currently in training to be the
new Volunteer
Coordinator of the
Sean
Humphrey
House. I have had a
really warm
welcome from everyone and I can’t
wait to get started!
Anyway, while I
have you here, I
thought that I would take this
chance to let you all get to know
me a little bit. I am currently a
student at Western Washington
University working on a degree in
Sociology with minors in Psychology, LGBT Studies, and Diversity
in Higher Education. In my free
time I really enjoy knitting,
dancing, baking, and spending
time in the sun whenever I get the
chance! Other than that I usually
try to keep busy with work and
various projects on campus – I’m
sort of a workaholic to say the
least. But I am glad to see that all
my hard work is
paying off! It has
been my dream
since I was 15 years
old to work with a
non-profit so I’m
more than honored
to have been hired!
I can already tell
that Sean
Humphrey House will be my
home away from home!
Resident Joke:
“Please keep your dog beside
you sir,” a woman said crossly to the man sitting opposite
her on the bench at the Park.
“I can feel a flea in my shoe.”
“midnight, come here,” replied
the man. “This woman has
fleas.”
