Il blu del cielo, le mille sfumature
del bianco. E’ il Ghiacciaio Rutor,
un ambiente stimolante per gli alpinisti
più esperti con le grandi traversate
a Valgrisenche o Planaval, ed uno
straordinario territorio da scoprire per
le famiglie. Dai 2594 metri del Rifugio
Deffeyes partono percorsi per ogni
livello di esperienza. La famosa alta
via naturalistica 2, i laghi Blu, Verde e
Grigio, le tre cascate, le due Vedette
simbolo di La Thuile: fra Francia e
Italia, per toccare il cielo con un dito.
The blue sky sets off myriad shades
of white. This is the Rutor Glacier, a
stimulating environment for experienced
climbers, offering outstanding excursions
to Valgrisenche or Planaval. But also
a great family-holiday location. Trails,
easy and more challenging, start from
the Deffeyes Refuge, at 2,594 metres
(8,510 feet), including part of the Alta Via
Naturalistica 2. Try the Blue, Green and
Gray Lakes, and the Three Waterfalls.

La Thuile è il trekking. Camminare e
scoprire, ammirare la grandiosità degli
scenari del Monte Bianco percorrendo
sentieri segnalati su percorsi adatti
ad ogni esigenza per impegno e durata.
Sentieri ricchi di storia, ricavati da antiche
vie romane fra Francia ed Italia, importanti
vie di comunicazione prima del Traforo
del Monte Bianco. Oppure camminamenti
legati al lavoro dei minatori o anche vie
agli alpeggi degli allevatori. Una magia
fra fitte foreste di conifere, torrenti e
cascate o grandi prati fioriti.
La Thuile is a hiker’s paradise. A voyage of
discovery on two feet, with Mont Blanc as
a backdrop, along well-signposted trails
of various lengths, suited to every level
of ability. Some trails are based on the
roads built by the Romans linking Italy
to France, roads that were in constant
use until the Mont Blanc tunnel was built;
others provided access to the coal and
silver mines; others yet were drovers’ trails.

As the Bosco Express or Chalet Express
chair-lift sweeps you (there’s plenty room
for your mountain bike too) to 2,400 metres
(8,000 feet), enjoy a privileged view of the

anche importanti, è un’emozione unica.

Il mototurismo è benvenuto a La Thuile.
I due colli che confinano la vallata,
Colle San Carlo e Colle del Piccolo
San Bernardo, sono percorsi da itinerari
che sembrano disegnati per il piacere
della guida. Fra i 2000 ed i 2500 metri,
interpretano le antiche strade romane,
come la S.S. 26 per Bourg St. Maurice
che segue la Strada Consolare delle
Gallie che permetteva il collegamento
oltralpe. Strade paesaggisticamente
meravigliose, da guidare senza fretta per
goderne appieno la bellezza.
Motorcyclists are welcome at La Thuile.
Framing the valley, Colle San Carlo
and Colle del Piccolo San Bernard offer
rides that seem purpose-designed for
motorcycling pleasure. At an altitude
of 2,000 to 2,500 metres (6,500-8,000
feet), they follow the line of the ancient
Roman roads. The main road for Bourg
St.-Maurice (SS. 26) traces the Consular
route that linked ancient Rome with Gaul.
Marvels of natural beauty, these roads are
to be taken at a leisurely pace, so you can
savor them to the full.

Un calendario Solare o un luogo di
culto? Ma sono molti i resti di epoche
antiche, come la Mansio orientale,
alloggio militare e prima testimonianza
della presenza dei Romani. E poi la casa
ospitaliera creata dal monaco Bernardo
nell’anno Mille, fino alle miniere e poi ai
bunker della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.

What was the celtic cromlech, also known
as Hannibal’s Circle? What are these
46 stones on a 76-metre (250-foot) diameter?
A solar calendar? A place of worship?
There’s lots more ancient remains,
though, such as the mansio orientale,
or military staging-post, early evidence
of the Romans’ presence in these parts;
the hospice established by the monk
Bernard in 1000 AD; the coal and silver
mines; and the bunkers dating from
the WW2 period. Lots of history, lots to

as well as the children’s play-area. Centrally

it’s ideal for letting the kids loose to spy
squirrels, mountain goats and foxes. What

Junior Camp, a gym, and high-altitude

In 2009, La Thuile was named Città del
Cioccolato, or Chocolate City, by the Chococlub, the Association of Italian Chocolate Lovers. In 2013 become Chocolathuile:
during this two-day event, visitors are
invited to taste and buy a hand-picked
selection of artisanal chocolate-based products, while exploring the culture, art and
creativity of the chocolate universe.
