The first play of G lenbard 's dramatic season was an all-school
production of Jos<:ph Kesselring's classic American comedy, "Ar·
senic and O ld Lace." The story of two apparently harmless old
aunts whose hobby is poisoning o ld men, "Arsenic and Old Lace"
featu resaveritablepoisonedk ingdom of morbid ly flavoreddialogue
between characters whose crotchets bo rder upon insanity. Especially
notable in the product ion were David Marsh, as the nephew
Mortimer, ma~tcr of the double-take; Steve Young as mad Teddy
whose cry "Charge!" resounded as he thundered up the stai rs; and
Chris Angcrmann as the Fran kenstein brother Jonathan with a
myriad of growls and T euton ic looks of fierceness. Most human
ofthcactors wcrc,of com sc, the two aunts, played by Sue Lorenzo
and Kay Shiedy, and Dr. Einstein, played by Bob Salter. Curtain
ca ll fo r the product ion included 13 corpses from the cellar graveyard-all remarkably well preserved
( It miFht be noted that Joseph Kesselring died a month after the
production.)

Over no Glenbard students spent nearl y
thirteen weeks under the d irection of Mr.
Jack Phillips in preparation for this year's
production of Shakespeare's h istory, He11ry
VI, Part I. The first in a trilogy chronicling
the War of the Roses, H enry VI, Part I depicts the victories of the French fo rces led
by Joan of A rc aga inst the occupying army
of the English left in France by King Henry
V and portrays the domestic struggle fo r
power in England after the death of Henry
V and the ascension of H enry VI. Mr. Phillips spent seven weeks in Eng land during the
previous summer researching the play in order to create an authentic and truly exciting
version of this quick-paced drama. A thrust
stage modeled upon Elizabethan stage design was constructed, over 180 costumes
patterned a(ter hi storical apparel were de·
signed and executed, and numerous batt le
scenes were blocked and rehearsed. Mr.
Phillips personally instructed the "troops,"
both Eng lish and French, in the~ of
eight pound broadswords and drilled them
before each rehearsal : every fight was
"choreographed" carefully and practiced to
prevent actual slaughter. Theater-goers wit·
nessed what was probably the most thrilling

of the Glenbard stage.

T he 1967 Glenb:tnl Milltoppers won five, lost two, tied one, and finished in a tie fo r s«ond in the West Suburban Con ference. The 1967 season was a successful one, but due to the great talent on this year's squad, the expectations were very h igh , and hopes for an undefeated season were common among many Glenbard fans.
Almost every va rsity footba ll team experiences some unfo reseen setback during a season, but G lenba rd seemed
to get mo re th:in its share o f bad luck and injuries in its bid for a championsh ip. K u rt Riemcr's broken arm
kept h im out of action almost the enti re season; Kelly Campbell was sidelined the last half of the season with
a had leg; Dan Halt injured his h and in the battle against Lyons; and several other players missed at least pa rts
of games fo r various reasons.
Still, the team's pe rfo rmance was one in wh ich Glenbard may take great p ride. A few of the h igh lights of the
season were Kell y Campbell's 194 yards rushing agai nst W heaton in the annual bitter rivalry, Campbell's :5touchdowns at York against the Dukes, Quarterback D an Halt's performance in the Proviso West game, in which
he passed for 193 ya rds and 4 touchdow ns, George Ingotd·s two ID's in the Homecoming wi n over Maine East,
and the select ion o f end Mike Pickering fo r All-State honors
Though the T oppers Jed the League in scoring, much credit is also due to the defensive unit that allowed just
57 poi nts in 8 gamt.'S. Among the defensive standouts were linebacker Ed Pfursich , end Steve Sheahan , and halfback Jim Bowles, who together accounted fo r 176 tackles and 30 assists

Linksters Take WSC Championship
Mr. George H aas, varsity golf coach, commented at the begi nning of the year that this year's squad had the ability to
do as well as or better than last year's state runners-up. The team had its ups and downs, showing many flashes of brilliance. The varsity golfers did not go downstate, but easily took the WSC conference championship, soundly defeating
all opponents
Four-year letterman Bill Dutch continuously led the linksters in dual meets with scores that averaged 74. Dutch qualifi ed for the state championship and finished respectably in Ilth place. Senior Jay Spalding was also invaluable to the
squad, coming in with many excellent performances. Juniors Dirk Anderson, Marc Kouzmanoff, and Steve Becker played
fine golf throughout the season and played in the conference tournament in which the Toppers fi~ished first.

Pinnacle Staff
Ars est celare artcm ("Art lies in concealing art"). So goes a Latin
proverb that can be interpreted to mean that :i.11 of the Pinnacle staff
are true artists. Any visitor to Room 227 hardly believes that any
work is being done, much less the production of a yearbook But as
any member of the staff can attest, compili ng a complete and accurate
history of the year is a difficult ·job. To the people pictured here these
208 pages represent many long hours of work, headaches, and fun.

Glen Bard Staff
Glcnbard's award-winning newspaper, published bi-weekly, informs and entertains the student body
by mixing a thorough coverage of school news, sports, drama, socia l events, scholastic honors, with nu·

In order to present an exciting cross-section of opin ion, the 1967-68 G len Bard emphasized controversy:
its editorials, polls, and letters aroused violent reactions, even if they didn't lead to the final solution of the
worl d's problems.

It's Academic
An unprecedented 12 G lenbard sen iors received top honors this year as they were
named 1968 National Merit Scho larship Semi-Final ists. By qualifying in such cutthroat
competition, these talented T oppers ranked in the top I % of all '68 seniors in the nation,
and the un usua lly high number o f semi-fi nalists proved that Glenbard is an institution
of considerable scholarshi p.
This year's team of quick-witted intellectuals consisted of seniors Chris Angerman n; David Marsh , captain; and
James Thomson, with alternates Bruce
Dreyfus, Glenn Harder, and Walt Ruby.
After several practice sessions with Coach

known for his perfo rmance in the Variety Show. A
warm and happy person whose friendship is valued
by many, Massey stayed in the home of Mark Miles.
