kuhn krause PRODUCT RANGE Tillage and Seeding 2011 – 2012 INTRODUCING THE NEW KUHN KRAUSE PRODUCT LINE The Company Located in Hutchinson, Kansas, Krause Corporation is a 95-year-old, threegeneration, family-owned tillage company. The company began when Kansas farmer Henry Krause invented the one-way plow. Since that time Krause has managed the ups and downs of the agricultural economy to become a leader in the North American tillage industry. The corporation today strives to develop the latest in tillage innovations to meet the growing agricultural technology trend and expanding global markets. In recent years, three new tillage tools have been released, each backed by the science of soil management, with the two latest being recognized by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers with awards for agricultural excellence for innovation and technology. History 1916: The year was 1916. Henry Krause built his first one-way disc plow in a small farm shop in Western Kansas. Designed to leave more residue on the soil surface to fight wind erosion, Henry Krause’s one-way was the first conservation tillage tool! His neighbors saw the plow and were impressed with its value as a special tool for their own farming conditions and asked Henry to build more. 1920: In the early 1920’s Henry Krause’s one-way business had outgrown his Western Kansas location and he purchased the Twin Wheel Windmill factory in Hutchinson, Kansas, about 35 miles northwest of Wichita. This location and facility enabled Henry Krause to expand his one-way plow business and fill the growing needs of America’s farmers. And expand it did. During World War II Krause was given a steel allotment and continued production of one-way plows to help America’s farmers produce more efficiently. With a Krause one-way, a farmer could till as many as 100 acres/40.4 ha per day. 1947: In the years after World War II, Krause’s business grew by leaps and bounds. In 1946, over 10,000 one-ways were produced and sold. 1947 saw this number increase to 15,000 plows. It was calculated that in 1947 Krause one-ways tilled over 19 million acres/7.6 million ha and helped produce 380 million bushels of wheat. 1997: From that humble beginning in a small farm shop in Meade County, Kansas, Krause Corporation has grown into one of the world’s top manufacturers of tillage equipment and grain drills. In 1988, Fortune Magazine listed Krause tillage equipment as among the 100 products that America makes best. Krause’s modern production facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, covers 40 acres/16 ha with over 400,000 sq. ft./37,000m2 of manufacturing space under roof. Krause Corporation, still under close family ownership, produces the largest selection of farm tillage equipment and grain drills of any short-line manufacturer in the world. Krause products include: disc harrows, field cultivators, chisel plows, disc/coulter chisels, Landsman and Landstar one-pass finishers, no-till and minimumtill grain drills, and soil packers. In 1996, Krause celebrated its 80th year of manufacturing. 2000: Krause Corporation products are well recognized as the finest quality available. Krause Corporation continues to lead the industry with innovative products that respond to the needs of today’s modern agricultural producer. Krauses’ commitment is to provide our customers with the best equipment and service in the business. Kuhn Krause - Hutchinson, Kansas The People The Krause workforce totals approximately 250 employees; including a full, self-sufficient product development and manufacturing staff and a professional management team. Key Figures 2010 Revenue: approx. 60 million dollars. Annual Production: approx. 1,500 machines. Values The company’s focus, above all, is to continue to produce quality products to serve producers better; to strive to respond to their needs with new tools and new technology to meet their growing challenges. Agronomic practices are constantly changing, and at a faster pace now than ever. With this fact at the forefront, innovation and development are keys to continually providing our customers with the best equipment and service possible. Manufacturing Facilities The Krause facility is located in Hutchinson, Kansas. The total site consists of 40 acres/16 ha, with a total of 400,000 sq. ft./37,000m2 of covered area. The covered area includes two production facilities and one administration building, with ample room for future expansion if needed. 2004: Successful introduction of the Dominator, a primary tillage tool that helps farmers incorporate residue into the soil and save time, fuel and fertilizer. 2010: Introduction of the Gladiator precision tillage system, a new development for the growing strip-till market. This new machine wins an “AE50” award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers for agricultural excellence for innovation and technology. 2011: The Excelerator vertical tillage system is introduced. This new machine also wins an “AE50” award from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. KUHN Group acquires Krause Corporation. Registered trademark(s) in one or several countries. This blade has an exceptionally sharp edge, 5 times sharper than conventional blades, for: Improved residue cutting Increased soil penetration Continued blade strength and durability Kuhn Krause heavy ductile cast spools multiply the strength of the disc gang, making it the strongest in the industry. Kuhn Krause spools are machined for an exact fit on the tie rod and precision faced to perfectly match the surface of the disc blade. A larger bell on the convex end and a smaller bell on the concave end provides an overlap fit against the Residue Razor blades. This design supports the disc blade more positively without creating a "stress line" like competitive designs. Rock-Flex bearing arms flex over the toughest obstacles. Kuhn Krause's exacting manufacturing process for Rock-Flex arms includes heat treating for durability and shot peening to relieve stress. Lubrication access to the SuperSeal gang bearings is through the protection of the RockFlex standard itself. Kuhn Krause SuperSeal regreasable gang bearings are very tough and durable. First they're protected in a ductile cast iron holder and encased in a heavy rubber boot to absorb shock. The triple lip seal has an extra heavy outer lip to resist wear and keep dirt out. The grease fitting is aligned directly with the lube hole in the bearing for positive greasing directly into the cartridge.
