Sirach writes, “If you choose, you can keep the commandments; they will save you.” The point is that God has granted us free will. The Lord has given us choices. As much as we speak about stewardship and as much as we point out the importance of living life with stewardship at its core, we all understand that what we do and how we do it is a matter of choice. It is one of those many choices we must make. From the perspective of our Catholic faith, it is a way to respond to Jesus’ call to us to pursue holiness. Today’s second reading from St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians contains one of the most eloquent descriptions of what is to come, the reward for living a God-centered and faith-filled life: “Eye has not seen… ear has not heard… what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:8) In other words the glory of salvation is beyond our imaginations. Free will is something gifted to us in this life. However, choosing the right path, choosing the right ways to love others, pursuing stewardship, although an option, is a vital way to live and to do what God wishes us to do. Or by appointment Young Adult, College Life & other Ministry Info Increased Offertory Program Update Recently you may have received a summary in the mail presenting the outcome of our Stewardship Campaign for pledges for 2014. Your response was OVERWHELMING! For the six week period starting with our stewardship drive kickoff on November 4th, we saw a 78% increase in $s pledged! After all the pledges for 2014 were received, we currently are running at a 20% increase of $s pledged vs this time last year. Even though we’ve seen the initial spike come down, I believe these increases reflect a renewed generosity of our parish families by making a planned giving commitment to share of their “first fruits”. But to be honest with you, we’re wondering why we are seeing such a dramatic year over year increase… -Is it because of the Increased Offertory Program we initiated with up to 3 mailings to parishioners asking for their support by responding with gratitude to God based on the many blessings we have received from Him? -Is it the anticipation of our soon to be released final draft of the 5 Year Pastoral Strategic Plan … and the realization that we can and will only begin to implement the plans if funds are available? -Is it the intentional emphasis on “OUR need to give” without dwelling on just the “parish’s need” for oper ating revenue? -Is it that we are experiencing a growing culture of stewardship as a way of life at St. Ann? -Or is it a combination of all the above??? Regardless of the reason, I want to thank you all as we realize our parish continues to be blessed with lay parish leaders and engaged parishioners who exemplify good stewards by sharing their time, talent, and treasure. You are in my daily prayers and I ask you to pray that God continues to bless our St. Ann parish family. Yours in Christ, Henry V. Petter Pastor LOOK WHAT’S AVAILABLE ! ! !
