Please call us for our full line of UNFINISHED FLOORING Forward W e are proud to offer a wide range of pre-finished wood and laminate flooring. Whatever your budget, Beronio has a floor for you. Sometimes the number of choices can be a little confusing. It is our hope that this brochure will help simplify things. If you find yourself lost in the midst of a construction project, we stock and highly recommend Rob Thallon’s Graphic Guide to Interior Details, published by Taunton Press, as the best overall introduction to wood floor in particular, and to interior finish in general. It is our goal to provide you with the finest selection of quality flooring products that represent the best possible value. Our product line is evolving as new products come to market. This brochure is offered as a "snapshot" of what we stock at the time we go to print. In addition to the pre-finished materials shown here, we also stock a wide variety of unfinished wood flooring for those preferring a traditional site-sanded floor. Why Pre-finished Flooring? Pre-finished flooring is factory coated in a clean, controlled environment. Specialized machines allow the application of uniquely formulated, high solid content coatings that are UV cured. The net result is a harder, longer wearing finish than can be achieved in the field. Pre-finishing bypasses the lengthy site-finishing process, and eliminates the attendant problems of on-site dust, general mess, and drying fumes. Types of Pre-finished Flooring Pre-finished flooring is available in two distinct forms: "Solid" and "Engineered". "Solid" flooring is manufactured directly from lumber. The wood is profiled with a tongue and groove profile on all four edges. The individual boards are installed by blind nailing them to a plywood subfloor. The tongue and groove is designed to align the boards and provide a location for blind nailing. Since it will not be sanded, pre-finished solid wood flooring is run with slightly beveled, or "eased" edges to accommodate the minor height variations between boards. "Engineered" hardwood floors were developed in Europe nearly 60 years ago. They are made of three to five cross-layers that are glue laminated together. A dense hardwood top layer is bonded at right angles to a multi-layer core. Engineered floors are typically straighter and more stable than their solid wood counterparts. The added stability allows them to be installed over a dry concrete slab. Installation methods vary depending on the manufacturer and application. Some are installed using the “glue down” method where the boards are glued directly to the subfloor. Others are installed using the “float-in” method. “Float-in” installation calls for each board to be connected to its neighbor with an appropriate wood glue. The boards are literally “floated-in” on an approximately 1/8” thick underlayment pad. The entire assembly expands and contracts as a unit. These floors most closely approximate the uniformity of a true site-sanded floor. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international network to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC brings people together to find solutions to the problems created by bad forestry practices and to reward good forest management. Beronio Lumber is proud to offer engineered hardwood flooring that is FSC certified. FSC certified flooring is marked with the FSC seal of approval.
