Autoserve 2014 ™ 14th – 16th Nov 2014, Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai, INDIA Overview of the India Automobile Industry Indian Automobile Industry has been on rise since last few years. This growth is particularly visible in personal vehicle segments like 2-Wheelrs and 4-Wheelers. With almost all major automobile manufacturers having their base in Chennai, the population of vehicles is on rise and has reached Ties II and III cities. At the same time population of high end commercial vehicles like luxury buses, long haul heavy haulage tucks in on rise, necessitating increase in service base for all these vehicles. The Indian automobile industry produced a total 1.69 million vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers and two wheelers in August 2013 as against 1.56 million in August 2012, registering a growth of 8.18 percent over the same month last year. The Aftermarket Business The Indian automotive aftermarket has grown strongly over the last five years and is expected to grow steadily over the next few years. Currently, the total size of the parts aftermarket is estimated at approximately INR 28,000 crore, while service (excluding parts) is pegged at approximately INR 10,000 crore. The parts market is expected to grow at 9 per cent to 11 per cent till FY#2015, to reach approximately INR 37,000 crore, while service is likely to reach approximately INR 13,000 crore (Exhibit 1). *Exhibit 1 Indian Market Per cent Indian market offers significant opportunities Car 26% 2 Wheelers 49% Commercial Vehicle 25% The Indian parts aftermarket is currently valued at about INR 28,000 crore. The twowheeler segment is the largest at an estimated INR 14,000 crore (49 per cent of the overall market), followed by the car segment at approximately INR 7,000 crore (26 per cent of the market).
