Hello my dear member’s and families I would
like to begin by thanking all the member’s for
entrusting me with the honor of serving you
and the lodge as your Exalted Ruler for the year
2014 – 2015. The motto of my station is fidelity,
to that end I will care out my duties to the best
of my abilities and with the respect it deserves.
Once again thank you for the encouragement
and support that has been offered to me by my
fellow Elks brother’s and sister’s. I certainly
believe that my duties as your Exalted Ruler
will be most rewarding and memorable. I would
like to congratulate our new officers and
trustees for stepping up and meet new
challenges. Let me tell you it is not easy to step
into Leadership Roles, but I promise that I will
support and respect all of you to the best of my
knowledge and experience. We the new Court
of Officer’s and myself are looking forward to
working with the member’s and their families,
Emblem Club and all the Committee Chair
person’s with plenty of energy and enthusiasm.
It was so rewarding to see our long time
member’s get recognized for the years of
dedication and service, and also I would love
to express my most sincere congratulations to
the
following
member’s
for
their
accomplishments: PER Willie Koskela “for Elk
of the Year”, Dana Williams “for Officer of the
Year”, Joanna Howard “for Tall Elks”, John
Hughes Jr. “for Citizen of the Year”, Rosalie
Leon, Julie Gomez and Nancy Kane for their
noble dedication and last but not least I want to
send my congratulations to our new Emblem
Club President and his name is Greg Sweet. And
my deepest thanks for their great and fabulous
donation of $500 to my Elk’s major project.
Our lodge is moving forward with new members,
new events and new ideas that increase in
TRUSTEES
participation of lodge activities this past year
was actually pretty great. Our past Exalted Ruler
Ben Ortega should be very proud that he finished
his year with a great plus Congratulations and
Thank you for leading our lodge into a new path
for better days for our future. Pork AQ went
very well thanks to all of you. We are looking
forward to seeing all of you at our Installation
April 1st, Our Inaugural Ball April 5th and our
A new fraternal year is upon us once
again. This year I will be serving our
membership as Leading Knight. I’m very
proud of the positive course our lodge has
taken in the past couple of years and looking
forward to this new year. But how can we
move forward if we don’t remember our past.
I would be remised if I didn’t mention the
outstanding job our past Board of Directors,
Club Manager and House Committee under
the direction of E.R. Ben Ortega. Turning
our lodge from what some would consider
certain failure to financial independence. A
sincere thank you in appreciation to Ben
and his assembly of truly caring individuals.
They have performed nothing short of an
exceptional job. Our lodge has many other
factors that have contributed to this great
turn around. One of the biggest is Becky
our club manager. She has delivered above
and beyond. Her efforts have more than
doubled our lease outs in the main hall and
Elkove. Our Emblem Club through their
generous donations and volunteers
contributed a wealth to our lodge. Lastly,
but certainly not least, making a huge
contribution to our success is you, the
membership. Attending the many lodge
functions, Pork a Ques, Steak Outs, Crab
Cracks, Valentines Dance, Sunday
Breakfasts, Oktoberfest, Family Fun Nights,
Monday Night Football, Super Bowls, Rose
Bowls, Car Shows, New Years Eve Galas
and Christmas Tree Lanes (to name a
few).Look forward to adding a few more this
year. We truly have the most functions and
greatest volunteer staff than any other in
southern California and may I dare say “the
whole nation”. Your benevolence and
unselfish donations of time and money are
the very things that make us who we are. A
very special thank you to our members that
frequent our restaurant and bar. Friday or
Saturday dine and dance, Al’s Mexican
Café, Ed Taco Night or just an ordinary
Monday through Thursday. All these areas
not only contribute to our lodge, but make
it a great place for family and friends.
We have a great management team and a
new corps of officers led by our new E.R.
Judith Lumbreras that will continue on this
successful path. Judith has been around as
an officer for many years and I believe she
will keep us strong. The officers and I are
behind her 100%. Let’s make this fraternal
year the best yet! Please continue to support
our lodge and make new friends. We may
not have the biggest membership, a pool,
saunas, the biggest building or property,
but we can be the model for lodges across
the country.
“May he give you the desire of your
heart and make all your plans succeed.”
Psalm 20:4
District Ritual Contest May 3rd at Pasadena

like to ask to keep us in your prayers for a new
Loyal Knights
Station
Hello Elk Sisters & Brothers,
I’m back! Welcome, welcome to my new
column! Welcome to the Esteem Loyal
Knight column! The emblem of this
station is the Holy Bible, and its motto is
Justice. My responsibilities this year are
a little bit different from last year; however,
I’ll definitely be available if anyone needs
‘justice’.
The emblem of this station is the Holy
Bible which teaches us the truth. It’s the
good news that I like to call our guide
book through life. It gives me a foundation
of how we should treat one another. Love
our neighbors and pray for our enemies.
You should owe nothing to anyone,
except so as to love one another (Romans;
13). Most beloved, if God has so loved
us, we also ought to love one another (1
John; 4).
There are so many virtues we can learn from
the Holy Bible. It teaches us wisdom,
kindness, generosity, tolerance and of
course, the motto of this station, justice. I
try to model it each and every day. As I
walk here on Earth, I try my best to be just.
He will judge the people in justice (Psalm;
9).
I look forward to a new year, a new
position, and I am greatly honored that
you find me worthy enough to serve as
your Esteem Loyal Knight. I know it was
a close election, yeah right, but I thank
you once again for your love, support, and
confidence you have in me.
Finally, let me congratulate all the award
winners from Pin Night. Congratulations
Hello my fellow Elks, my
name is Tim Conklin. It is
my pleasure to be your
incoming Lecturing Knight.
You may not know me by
name, but I am sure you
know me by height! I look
forward to a good year
being part of Exalted Ruler
Judith Lumbreras team.
There are a lot of wonderful
Elks at our Lodge, and I
hope to keep the positive
energy going as your
Lecturing Knight. I have
much to learn as a first time
Lodge Officer and I will be
reaching out to those who
have been here before.
We have many events
planned for the upcoming
year and I look forward to
meeting you at the
Inaugural Ball on April 5th,
I thank you in advance for
your support, and look
forward to working with
you all!
to all the 10 – 65 year members.
Congratulations, Dana, for being our Elks
Officers of the Year.
To Willie,
Fraternally,
congratulation for receiving Elk of the
Year honors! To Nancy & Rosie, it’s an
honor in sharing the ‘Spirit of Elkdom’
award with you both.
Until next month, check your calendars,
get involve, be open to new idea and
practice justice. Most importantly, let’s
continue having fun!
Fraternally,

Trustees 5-4-3-2-1
Another Lodge year is about to begin, as trustees we are
looking forward to the projects and challenges ahead. Our
building is another year older and we have been able to
keep things in working order.
Many thanks to those who have stepped in to help with
repairs and purchases. We are thankful to all who have
been there to help and encourage all those who have been
in charge.
Thanks to Nancy and Gus Kane for making sure we have
new Bingo signs for the out side of our building, stating
our new Bingo hours. We are also purchasing new Bing
reader boards, they will make them easier to maintain.
I n addition to playing the organ for our Tuesday meetings,
Pat Moyer has been giving some of his time to play the
organ on Thursday before Bing starts. (Thank you Pat.)
The house committee and club Manager are recommending
we purchase new flatware for our food service areas,
this was very much needed, the price is about $2,800.00,
donations are always accepted.
Please feel free to contact any Trustee if you have time
for repairs or other areas you may be able to help with.

by James L. Nichelson, PER
Commission Vice Chairman
The Elks National Veterans Service Commission is proud to provide
Local Lodges the opportunity to present a Medal of Valor to the families
of members of our armed services who have paid the ultimate price. The
Medal of Valor is presented posthumously in recognition of the great loss
the recipients have suffered. It tells the families the Members of the
Local Lodge and all Elks have immortalized their loss in their hearts.
Your Lodge can make a Medal of Valor presentation a part of a Veterans
Day or Memorial Day Program. Additionally, the family presentation
could be made part of a special program in your community. Some
Lodges integrate the presentation into a Veterans Dinner. Others work
jointly with veterans organizations to locate and recognize deserving
families.
The Medal of Valor is very attractive, comes in a presentation case and
can be engraved with the name of the deceased. The cost is $8.00 per
medal and shipping is included. It can be ordered from the Elks National
Veterans Service Commission, 2750 N. Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, IL
60614-1889, or by E-mail at [email protected].
Elks remember veterans. It is what we do. What better way to do this
than to present a Medal of Valor to deserving family members of those
who have made the supreme sacrifice.

Message from the President
April 2014
Hello Everyone!
Welcome Spring! What a great time of year! First, let me congratulate
Judith and the new Corp of Officers for 2014-015. What a great
installation. Emblem extends best wishes for a successful year to come.
Congratulation to all the awardees on Pin Night. Your dedication to our
lodge is amazing. My Officers and our members are looking forward to
working with the Elks and hopefully sharing some joint ventures.
Also, a great big “Thank You” to the Elks who have or will be a golfer,
silent auction donor, or a sponsor for our 12th Annual Fore the Kids Golf
Classic on May 9, 2014. Your contribution and participation is greatly
appreciated.

where our members get together. Some socials also are focused on learning
about and donating to community charities, such as School on Wheels,
Ronald McDonald House, homeless veterans, and many others. Please
