History
Tranquillity was founded in 1919 by
Elias A. Cohen as a way of rewarding
deserving young Jewish boys and girls by
allowing them to escape the heat of the
city summer.
In the years since, Tranquillity developed into a nurturing summer home to
over 250 boys and girls each year. The
camp facilities grew from one barn
building with no running water to a
modern campus including 6 housing areas, a beautiful dining room, Sports
Center and modern theater and stage.
Tranquillity
Camp
Earlton, New York
Our staff is comprised of “homegrown”
young men and women, mostly college
students who spent their formative years
at Tranquillity Camp. Many are second,
third and even fourth generation
“Tranquillity-ites.”They are supervised by
our head counselor staff; educators, who
have many years of Tranquillity
experience.
All staff members have
participated in our CIT (Counselor-inTraining) program as well as training
sessions and orientation.

T RANQUILLITY C AMP
Since
1919, Tranquillity
Camp has opened its
doors to deserving boys
and girls. Nestled on
1000 acres at the
foothills of the
Catskill Mountains in
upstate New York, we have become a
summer home to children ages 7 through
15.
Tranquillity offers something for all
children: from athletics to drama, nature
to art, and so much more. The camp
program is designed for children of
predominantly, though not exclusively,
Jewish homes. Camp holds a traditional
Shabbat dinner and children’s service on
Friday nights. We have a modern state-of
the-art kitchen and we take great pride in
using fresh ingredients to serve full meals
prepared by our culinary team, led by a
trained chef. Camp also has a Registered
Nurse and EMT that reside on premises.
Campers live in multiple areas of
camp based on age.
Houses
accommodate 8-12 campers along with
3-4 staff members. Children’s rooms are
arranged to
promote socialization
and
the
strengthening
of friendships.
Activities
Tranquillity Camp offers plenty
to keep kids happy and busy each
day. Athletic facilities include Soccer
fields, Basketball courts, Tennis courts,
Baseball field, indoor Sports Center,
Beach Volleyball, Tetherball, Miniature
Golf, Ga-Ga, Handball and more.
Children are scheduled to swim at least once a day, in
one of our two pools. Tranquillity provides swim instruction based
on American Red Cross guidelines and has
certified lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.
Camp also boasts a lake for fishing and
boating, two campfire fields, archery range,
low ropes challenge course and climbing wall,
Arts and Crafts House, Nature House, marked
hiking trails and a campsite for an overnight
experience.
Special Events
Throughout the Summer there are many special events at
camp including Carnival, Fireworks,
Apache Relay, end of year Banquet,
Treasure Hunt, camp-wide Olympics,
Stunt night, Sing and Visiting Day.
Throughout the summer campers compete in intra-camp tennis tournaments,
basketball tournaments as well as other
competitions. Each Saturday night the
campers
produce a show and perform for the rest of the
camp. Shows range from T-Y originals to full scale Broadway
classics.
