On behalf of the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA), I would like to
welcome you to our inaugural FBAA National Conference “Get on your Feet
and Cement your Future” in Sydney on 15 – 17 February, 2012 at Sydney
Convention and Exhibition Centre, Sydney NSW.
With the continual changing market in mind FBAA has made certain to custommake our inaugural conference to help meet the concerns of its members and the
industry at large. We believe there is something for everyone!
We are extremely excited about the high calibre of speakers ranging from the
charismatic Max Walker as MC, Amanda Stevens - SheMarketing and Peter
Irvine the inspiring CEO of Gloria Jean to name a few. There will be the
powerful industry professionals such as Greg Kirk, ASIC; Sue Vroombout, The
Treasury and Peter Switzer renowned economist and TV personality.
FBAA feels that there has never been a better time to refocus on marketing
strategies, rethink customer relations and explore some innovative ideas to keep
you active in the industry and successful with sales. To enhance this we have an

FBAA is the industry's preferred association for finance broking. It has become

In the space of five decades Max Walker has travelled an amazing road from schoolboy sporting
prodigy to having one of the most recognisable faces and voices in Australian society. Along the
way he managed to play Test Cricket in a golden era, play VFL/AFL football for the Melbourne

Peter Switzer
Peter is one of Australia's leading business and financial commentators, launching his own business

conference over 80% of the time. Her international marketing, research and PR firm Splash
Consulting Group works with businesses large and small to assist them with harnessing the growing
influence of the female consumer dollar. She has been described by many as a female Allan Pease.

Sue Vroombout
Sue Vroombout was recently appointed as General Manager of the Retail Investor Division in
Markets Group of the Treasury, with responsibility for providing policy advice to the government on
the licensing of financial services providers, product disclosure and financial advice requirements
and the reform of consumer credit arrangements. Sue has previously held a number of senior
positions in the Treasury and the Attorney-General's Department, providing advice on a range of
issues including in the taxation, corporate law and financial services areas. Most recently, Sue was
General Manager of the Commonwealth-State Relations Division in the Treasury.

Jasson Urbanowicz

Vernon Spencer
Vernon Spencer, Executive Chairman and President of the Stargate Corporation Group, is a
renowned industry leader in the business of wholesale mortgage lending, mortgage processing and
mortgage-backed securities in Australia.
In 1972 he founded Stargate Corporation, in 1992 Stargate formed the Interstar Securities Group
which became one of the nation's largest non-bank wholesale loan financiers, funded by the
issuance of mortgage-backed securities to major institutions and investors in Australia, Europe, Asia
and USA.
Vernon is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, a Board Member of the
Australian Securitisation Forum, Chairman of its Market Standards and Practices Committee.

Steve Weston
Steve Weston’s career spans over 25 years in the banking and finance space; the last six years with
Advantedge Financial Services. Steve’s current role as General Manager, Broker Platforms, sees
him responsible for Advantedge’s aggregation businesses. Prior to joining Advantedge, Steve spent
four years as General Manager of Mortgages at St.George Bank. Steve has an extensive end to
end knowledge of the mortgage business and is an energetic and knowledgeable speaker who has
an established track record of providing accurate insights into the mortgage industry.

Kym Dalton
Kym has worked in financial services for over 30 years, during which time he's held CEO roles with
major corporations in Australia and New Zealand; whilst also gaining wide ranging on the ground
experience in the USA and UK.
He was instrumental in pioneering the residential mortgage securitisation and 'non-bank' lending
industries in Australia and New Zealand
He is currently the Executive Chairman of CreditED- an online financial literacy initiative, as well as
being a frequent commentator and consultant on industry matters via Futurology Pty Ltd.

Mark Bouris
Mark Bouris is one of Australia's most respected businessmen, with a career that spans three
decades in the financial services industry.
Mark believes that every Australian deserves access to quality financial advice, which is the driving

Yellow Brick Road has built a national branch network with the aim to bring first class financial

Bae Bastian
Bae Bastian is Legal Counsel to the Ombudsman – Banking & Finance in the Financial Ombudsman
Service. She had been the Team Leader for the Lending team, which deals with all disputes
regarding credit facilities.
Bae has practised in the areas of financial service law, dispute resolution and insolvency for over 20
years. Bae joined the Banking & Financial Services Ombudsman (the predecessor to the Financial
Ombudsman Service) four years ago. Prior to that, her experience included private practice as a
lawyer then senior associate in Minter Ellison's dispute resolution group and 8 years as Senior
Corporate Lawyer – Dispute Resolution at National Australia Bank.

Greg Kirk
Greg Kirk is Senior Executive Leader of ASIC's Deposit Takers, Credit and Insurers stakeholder team.
The team's work is strongly focused on the retail end of the financial services market, including
deposit and transaction banking, all aspects of consumer credit and the general and life insurance
markets. It conducts general surveillance and compliance work as well as undertaking major
projects on issues causing consumer detriment.
Most recently Greg has lead an internal project team responsible for the implementation of the new
national consumer credit laws.
Greg was formerly the Director, Compliance and Campaigns, Consumer Protection, ASIC. Before
joining ASIC, he was Principal Solicitor at the Public Interest Advocacy Centre.

John Floros
John has been in the NSW Police Force for 19 years with over 16 years in criminal investigation.
He has experience in serious violent crimes ranging from extortion, homicide and kidnap for ransom.
John is the officer in charge of Strike Force Apia that has terms of reference to investigate organised
mortgage fraud and over 7 years in the Fraud Squad.
He runs the NSW Police Force Fraud Investigation Training Course when available for investigators
working in the private sector.

Philip Joe-Low
Philip Joe-Low currently manages the Deloitte Digital Identity Products. He has extensive experience
in Compliance, with a focus on AML, having worked at one of the Big 4 for a number of years. He
frequently liaises with Government on regulatory issues and has taken a prominent role on Deloitte’s
technology response to the NCCP obligations.

David Baker
David has worked in the Banking and Finance industry for over 17 years in various diverse roles
ranging from investments, credit sanctioning, management accounting and internal auditing, with
organisations such as ANZ Esanda, GE Capital, Sanwa UFJ, BankWest, Lloyds Banking Group and
now with AUSTRAC.
His current role as Director of the Supervision Central Region encompasses NSW and ACT and is
responsible for supervising over 8,000 reporting entities across a range of sectors including foreign
banks, fund managers, stockbrokers, superannuation trustees, lenders, credit unions/building
societies, casinos and other gaming and wagering venues, bullion dealers and remittance
businesses.

Peter Irvine
Since opening their first coffee house in November 1996, Gloria Jean Coffees has grown to be the

in 25 countries worldwide.

recognized in 2005 when Gloria Jean Coffees won the PricewaterhouseCoopers Excellence in

1. All delegates attending the conference, including the presenters, must complete a registration form and
return by post to Bright and Bold Events and Conferences; PO Box 701, Broadbeach QLD 4218 or scan

2. Registrations will not be activated without payment being either a cheque made out to FBAA National
Industry Conference or credit card facilities of Visa, Mastercard or electronic transfer marked Conf 2012
3. Once your registration form and payment has been received, you will be sent a confirmation letter. Please
ensure you read the confirmation letter carefully and advise us immediately of any changes or corrections
4. Registration deadline: Close of business on Friday 2 February, 2012
5. Early Bird registration rate available until Tuesday 15 November, 2011

CANCELLATIONS OR ALTERATIONS POLICY
Cancellations received in writing on or before Tuesday 15 November, 2011 will be subject to a refund, less 50%.
No refunds will be made after close of business Tuesday 15 November, 2011, however substitute delegates are
accepted. All alterations must be received no later than Thursday 12 January, 2012 and must be in writing
forwarded by email or post to Bright and Bold Events and Conferences [email protected] or PO Box
701, Broadbeach, QLD 4218.
PROGRAM CHANGES
FBAA reserves the right to make changes in the program and speakers or to cancel programs or exclude
delegates if the enrolment criteria are not met or when conditions beyond their control prevail. Every effort will be
made to contact each delegate if a program is cancelled. If a program is not held for any reason, our liability is
limited to the program fee only.

The Centre Car Park is located off Darling Drive, underneath the Centre’s five exhibition halls. It has direct access
to the venue and the Darling Harbour precinct. The Car Park features 18 disabled parking spaces and access to
the Centre can also be gained via ramps and lifts. The Car Park is open 24 hours, Monday to Sunday.
