PREPARED BY CHEF LUCIANO CIBELLI IN YOUR HOME
As a young boy in Milano, Chef Luciano Cibelli’s early life was infused with a passion
and respect for cooking. After perfecting his family’s traditional Italian techniques, he
set off to broaden his horizons in Köln, Germany at the prestigious La Vita restaurant.
There, Luciano collaborated with chefs of both German and Indian descent. Together,
they began to discuss the art of cooking; fusing three cultures to form new and exciting
cuisines. Luciano expanded his knowledge with travels to Thailand, Spain, and the
Caribbean eventually arriving in the United States. He worked as a head chef in New
York’s Four Cats Italian restaurant and Nick and Maggie’s steakhouse. Luciano realized
that cooking is not about mastering a specific style, but instead, it’s about “respecting”
the integrity of the finest ingredients, finding correct combinations and ways to prepare
them without compromising their intended flavor.
Luciano helped launch San Diego’s prestigious Max Restaurant, developing a continental
fusion style of cooking. He opened Mama’s Cucina Italiana at Pala Casino in April 2003,
where he serves as Head Chef. His cuisine has made an indelible mark on the city’s
restaurant scene, and is recognized as the BEST Italian food in San Diego.
