One of our newest kitties is Pasqualle
(Like Pastel; but Paskel) who was hanging around the home of a lady who had
been admitted to a nursing home. Neighbors asked us to find her a new home
because they were sure she was used to
living inside with the elderly person. She
is a sweet and loving petite young silver
tabby.
The morning we were going to receive
her at the building the caring lady who
told us about her called to say there
‘had been an incident’ with regard to
her. Unfortunately, the incident was that
she birthed two malformed kittens that
were dead when born. It is not surprising since she is a very petite little cat
and does not seem to be much more than a year old, if that.
She has since been spayed and is up to date on all of her vaccines and
tested negative for FeLv and FIV. She is ready for a long life with a family
to love and will have a lot of love to give them.

Adopt a Miliary Family
During my entire military career, which included active
duty tours and back to back deployments with the Air Force
Reserve and Iowa Army National Guard, I felt blessed whenever I received care packages from the local Presbyterian
church that I had grown up in, as well as any letters I had
received from caring members of the local community where
I was raised. It brightened my spirits and made home feel
not so far away, even when I was halfway across the world.
What about those who are left keeping those home fires
burning? Often times military spouses move with their active military members all across the US and abroad, far away
from home and the community in which they grew up. When
their spouse deploys they are left to run the household and
play the parts of both “mom and dad” to their children while
the other spouse is TDY for upwards of 12 months. More
often they are surrounded by other spouses who are also
experiencing the same scenario.
Although they have the emotional understanding and support of those who surround them, often times they are unable to provide one another with the additional support that
many of them could use, and their families are not readily
available to help them either.
Hugs4Smiles USA is an organization whose mission is
to offer support to any troops, and/or the families of those
troops, who find themselves in need of this support. This
organization had operated, and achieved these goals solely
through the help of caring volunteers until around the end
of 2008.
Over time, as word about Hugs4Smiles spread, the ability
to find enough volunteers to support the number of requests
coming in caused the Board of Hugs to rethink the “volunteers only” approach.
If supporting those serving this great country, both at
home and abroad, is something you share with this organization, please spend a little time browsing their web site to
