Volunteer Spotlight
We
Lynn & Howard
Volunteers
Why did we choose to volunteer with
Parks and Recreation?
We moved to Longview in December 2010 and wanted to get involved in the community
and become an active part of our new home. Our family had always been involved in park
activities at our local community center in Portland. We believe in healthy family activities,
strong bodies, and challenged minds.
We wanted to be part of a program that encouraged children and families to pursue healthy
activities and have fun together.
What do we enjoy about volunteering?
We really enjoy meeting new people and developing relationships. Watching children and
families try new things, laugh and play together is always a pleasure. We love watching
families at the summer lake concerts. Lynn especially likes being a support to the staff.
Lynn & Howard
What do we do for recreation?
We have always loved camping and exploring new parks/natural areas. We have been
searching out new bike paths with our cruisers. Golf is our new pursuit...really just love
being outside and enjoying the beauty of the many interesting golf courses. Lynn likes to
walk and hike and would love to participate in another half marathon. Howard loves sports, especially baseball, and loves teaching
his grandchildren baseball skills.
Why should others volunteer with Longview Parks and Recreation?
It is always beneficial to help others in your life...family, friends, community.
It is a great way to connect with your community and be an encouragement in someone’s life.
It is fun to be part of building strong bodies, minds and relationships.
It is fun to be part of laughter.

The RA Long AVID class played an instrumental part in
our Father Daughter event. Students helped coordinate
the event by providing the ideas for the Disney theme,
constructed and painted the scenes, and suggested ideas
for refreshments, craft and keepsake gift. Several of the
students volunteered at the event helping make our Father
Daughter Dance Event spectacular this year! Thank you
