the state Senate voted 50-10 for the
measure on Tuesday. Current state law
requires those convicted of nontraffic
felonies and 36 specific misdemeanors to
submit DNA samples for the databank,
which has been expanded four times since
it was established in 1994. State officials
say it currently holds samples from
386,234 people. If Cuomo s proposal is
enacted, an estimated 46,000 more would
be added each year.
