Tigertail Beach (Marco Island) Marco Island Florida’s Paradise Coast harbors a plethora of beautiful beaches, which often take center stage among the area’s many amenities. Stake your claim with a beach umbrella and sink your toes in the sand. Stay for sunset and see if you can catch a glimpse of the legendary green flash. Whether or not you spy the elusive beam, the beach and Mother Nature’s show won’t disappoint. Most recently, two white sandy stretches of the Paradise Coast proudly made the cut. 2 BA R EFO OT BE ACH ( NORT H NA PL ES) # Barefoot Beach, a gorgeous off-the-beaten-path destination, is located on a 342-acre barrier island on the Southwest Florida coast, one of the last such islands to remain undeveloped. Here, you can explore over 8,000 feet of beach and sand dunes, plus a lush one-mile nature trail. Meet migratory shore birds, partake in a guided tour on the beach or snorkel the reef offshore. These two beaches are good for shore fishing, especially where they each border on Wiggins Pass. Enjoy what the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail guide considers one of the best birding locations in Southwest Florida. Situated on a tidal lagoon, this place is ideal for kids and for taking advantage of on-site stand-up paddleboard rentals. South Beach (Marco Island) A relaxed stretch of sand nestled up to sabal palms and Marco Island’s luxury hotels, South Beach is a great spot for shelling. Naples Municipal Beach and Fishing Pier (Naples) Originally built in 1888, the city’s landmark pier is perfect for strolling and watching the sun set. For more history, swing by the nearby Naples Historical Society’s Palm Cottage. Clam Pass Beach (Naples) Have fun getting there with a scenic tram ride through mangroves. Keewaydin island (Marco Island) This unique barrier island located within the Rookery Bay reserve off the Gulf coast has no cars, roads or bridges, and has abundant wildlife. Spend the day beachcombing, strolling and fishing. One of the largest Artificial Reef projects in the Western Hemisphere is underway in the Gulf off the coast of Naples. Get Active: Get out and stretch your legs on the 1 ⅓-mile Panther Trail, or the ⅓-mile Memorial Trail. Hike highlights include the opportunity to see ancient oak trees and the plethora of wildlife that resides in the refuge. Get Active: Bike Historic Marco Road through marsh, hammock and pine flatwoods, or paddle through mangrove forests and the Blackwater River, with its gentle current catering to those less experienced. The park’s pole boat tours harken back to the days of early Gladesmen and Native Americans. The forest is also part of the first generation of CERP – Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan – an amazing natural recovery program for the Everglades.
