The ICM is an electrical multiple unit in use in the
Netherlands as an Intercity train.
From these ICM trains, 4 different types of series
are operating since the beginning of the nineteen’s.
In total about 140 trains are in service.
After 15 years of operation, a refurbishment project of the complete fleet was launched with 2 preseries prototype trains. The retrofit takes place in
the manufacturing plant of Nedtrain in Haarlem.
The first trains concerned were the 50 trains of
4 coaches with 300 seats and 2 toilets each. The
big part of the renovation, besides the amelioration of comfort and the electrical supply, was
the introduction of lawful toilets for persons with
reduced mobility (PRM toilets) and the installation
of bioreactors.
The delivery of the underfloor ICM ¾ Bioreactors
started in 2009 and is planned to last until 2012.
100 Bioreactors must be in operation in 2012 in
the 50 trains. The other ICM type series of train
will follow.
