We had the privilege of shooting our AW16 rug collections at arguably some of
the most beautiful estates and barns in Ireland. We would like to thank everyone
involved behind the scenes, without you, our shoots would not be a success:
The Management and Equestrian Team at Mount Juliet Estate

Estate, located in gorgeous County Kilkenny, with their

How Do We Make Our Turnouts So Waterproof?
Aquatrans® technology explained
• The inner Hydrophillic layer is water loving and draws sweat away from the body.
• The outer Hydrophobic layer is water hating and drives this water vapour through the fabric and
away from the outer of the turnout. Therefore it repels the entry of any water through it coming
from the outer.
• This waterproof technology is one of the best on the market and ensures your horse stays dry and
comfortable when wearing Rambo® or Rhino® turnouts.
What waterproofness and breathability levels do we adhere to?
• All Horseware® turnouts are waterproof to in excess of 3000mm and also breathable to 3000g.
• This allows 3000g of water vapour to be released in a 24 hour period from underneath your turnout.
When should I re-proof my turnout?
• For a Rambo® Turnout, you should not have to reproof the turnout within the first three years, which
we back with our three-year waterproof guarantee. After the first three years it depends on how
much you use your turnout, but once a year should be more than enough if you feel it is required.
• For our Rhino® and Amigo® turnout turnouts, they should not need reproofing in the first year of life,
after that you could reproof them once a year as part of your seasonal cleaning regime.
Are turnouts with a higher denier less breathable?
• Just because a turnout has higher denier does not necessarily mean it is less breathable. It depends
on the type of fabric and waterproof coating used. This is why we use Aquatrans™ technology with
our Rambo® and Rhino® ranges, so that we can ensure our higher denier count turnout turnouts are
the most waterproof turnouts on the market, while still having maximum breathability. This keeps
your horse dry and comfortable, even in the worst of weather conditions.
How do I wash my turnout?
• To wash your turnout yourself, you should first gently brush off any excess dirt and mud from the
outside. Once dry, gently hose off your turnout, and use a wash that is specifically formulated to
clean horse turnouts without damaging the fabric or waterproof coatings, preferably a natural or
non-biological substance. Strong or biological detergents can cause damage to the waterproof
coating.
• We do not recommend washing your turnout with a power washer, as the pressure
from the washer can possibly damage the waterproof layer on the turnout. Water
should also not exceed 30 degrees Celsius.
• If you have any small tears or nicks to repair, we recommend using our Rambo®
Turnout repair kit or our Rambo® Stormsure glue, which effectively seals and
waterproofs any small damage to your turnout.
How do I store my turnout?
• Once your turnout is washed and completely dry, fold it neatly into a breathable
storage bag. Store in a cool, dry area away from any moisture or damp areas,
while also avoiding excessive heat. The bags our Horseware® Turnouts are
packaged in are a perfect bag to re-use for turnout storage.

WHY IS THIS GOOD FOR ME AND MY HORSE?
Heat loss indicated over

your horses back and also means your horse is carrying

• For horses that struggle with holding condition or older

What is the Rambo® Safety Surcingle System?
• This is the system we use on our Rambo® Turnouts to provide you with peace of mind during
turnout.
• It is made of 3 straps which in an emergency will break away at one end whilst staying
attached at the other.
• You can then quickly replace the acetyl safety loop, or if you have forgotten your spare loop,
reattach with the metal loop on the strap affected to resecure the rug.
• This system means less damage to the rugs in an emergency, and is a safer option for your
boisterous horses!
Should I remove my straps when washing my rug?
The Safety surcingle system means that you can remove your straps during washing, reducing
damage to the drum of the washing machine. The straps can then be hand washed separately
before replacing back on your rug once the rug is cleaned.

How do I replace my safety loop
• Simply feed the spare loop (3 come with your new Rambo® Turnout) over the
metal loop onto the strap. (image 1)

• Feed the male end of the strap through the metal loop (image 2a) to secure
the acetyl loop to the strap. (image 2b)
• Undo the Velcro on the right hand side of your rug (image 3), slide the acetyl
loop with the strap attached down over the centre double sided Velcro strap
(image 4).
• Smooth the Velcro tightly down and then fold down the covering strap, again
securing the Velcro well (image 5). You are now ready to go (image 6)!

What rug suits my horses build?
• For a deep shouldered horse with a deep neck and wide build you would need the XL cut,
which is 20% deeper in the neck and sides to give them room, or you could choose the Optimo
style rugs which have the ultimate freedom of movement.
• For a deep shouldered, narrow horse you would be advised to have a Surefit design with
V-front closure.
• For an average build of horse, they could go with a classic neck cut or if you prefer to give
them more comfort again, you would go to the V-front.
• For high withered narrow horses a Wug® would suit them better to reduce the wither pressure.
• For very narrow or young horses the Wug® or All-In-One design rugs are good choices to help
fit their shape and prevent the rugs from slipping.

What do the different

• Classic cut, this sits just in front of the wither,
then the neck cut curves down and around to
give the straight classic cut neck with male/
female closures.

• Surefit neck design, sitting further in front of the
wither with a smoother slope to cup the front
line of the shoulder and finish deeper in the
front of the neck, Sure-fit by name and nature,
this design gives a snugger fit yet the deeper
neck allows more freedom to graze. Always
used in conjunction with our =V-front closure,
which provides freedom of shoulder movement
to prevent rubbing and aids in reducing wither
pressure.
• All-In-One style, this has no seams from ears to
tail along the top section, this is the perfect rug
for narrow types who tend to loose condition
as it has increased thermal insulation all the
way through the rug.
Why would I use a hood?
• Hoods are invaluable tools for us to keep the horse warm and dry
• We spend all of our lives building topline in our horses so should we not keep the topline warm?
Many people forget that the majority of their horses neck is muscle. Keeping the neck warm
keeps the overall horse warmer and reduces warm up time as the muscle is already warm and
has good circulation. If you do not use hoods then the neck is more exposed, and depending
on the horses coat, can then be colder.

HOW TO FIT YOUR HORSEWARE® RUG
The fit of your rug is extremely important to ensure the comfort of your horse and to prevent rubbing and
rug slippage. As horses of the same height at the wither come in variety of shapes and sizes, it is useful to
take certain measurements of your horse.
Using a soft measuring tape, measure from (A) at the centre point of the chest, across the point of the
shoulder and to the point (B) at the centre of the tail. When you have the measurement, remove 10cm
(4inches) and choose your horse’s size from the table below.
Bear in mind that every horse is different and that this table is a guide only.
We have many different styles to suit all shapes and sizes.
