Team,
As we prepare for the launch of the all-new F-Series
Super Duty and all-new Lincoln Continental, we need to
remind ourselves to look back on previous launches and
find opportunities for improvement – and implement
those improvements in the future.
Today’s processes are based on what we’ve learned from
earlier launches and what our customers tell us about the
products and services we provide. Being mindful of this
ensures that each new vehicle going forward is launched
with a higher level of quality than the last.
The award-winning new Ford Escape, which rolled
out in May, brings with it an unprecedented amount of
technology, the implementation of which is made possible
by the impressive number of quality checks in place at
Louisville Assembly Plant.
These quality checks – based on what we’ve learned
previously – are crucial in maintaining the fit and finish of
these important Ford vehicles.
If you see something, call for a team leader, or if
something doesn’t make sense to you, please ask for help.
At the end of the day it comes down to each of you
to make certain we’re providing our customers the best
product we can manufacture.
You are the product experts, and your hard work and
feedback are vital in attaining our goal of having the best
quality in the world.
Thank you for what you do every day to help Ford reach
that goal.
Best,
Gary

FORD BOLSTERS AVAILABILITY OF
SYNC 3 PLUS APPLE CARPLAY, ANDROID AUTO
Ford is expanding its SYNC® 3
connectivity platform – allowing
compatibility of Apple CarPlay™
and Android Auto™ – throughout
its entire 2017 U.S. vehicle lineup
of cars, SUVs, light trucks and
electrified vehicles. Ford, using
its platform-centric approach
– creating a technology for its
lineup versus going vehicle by vehicle – has been able to
swiftly roll out SYNC 3 plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
And future, over-the-air updates via Wi-Fi will help ensure it
keeps up with the latest technology.

ALL-NEW FORD F-SERIES SUPER DUTY
LEAVES THE REST BEHIND
Ford, America’s truck leader, is taking heavy-duty trucks to
the next level with the all-new 2017 F-Series Super Duty –
empowering customers with the most towing and hauling
capability and the most horsepower and torque of any
heavy-duty pickup truck. Super Duty’s enhanced capability
starts with high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy
and high-strength steel that help reduce weight by up to
350 pounds. Ford reinvested that weight savings in more
robust components everywhere it counts to give customers
more towing and hauling capability than ever before.

ECOBOOST V6 NETS BEST-IN-CLASS, V8BEATING TORQUE, MORE HORSEPOWER
Ford continues its relentless pace of innovation, delivering
segment-leading torque for 2017 F-150 customers with
the all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 engine and 10-speed
automatic transmission. The new second-generation
3.5-liter EcoBoost engine will provide 50 pound-feet more
peak torque compared with the first-generation 3.5-liter
EcoBoost engine, to a segment-best 470 pound-feet,
beating all diesel- and gasoline-powered competitors,
including V8 engines with nearly twice the displacement of
the EcoBoost V6. Horsepower jumps 10 from the previous
version, to 375 hp.

STUDY SHOWS KEEPING DAILY
ROUTINE TOP CONCERN FOR BREAST
CANCER PATIENTS
In its ongoing efforts to support the fight against breast
cancer, Ford Warriors in Pink recently commissioned a
series of surveys seeking to identify the top concerns and
day-to-day challenges of patients in treatment, as well as
to examine the state of awareness of the disease among
American adults today. The study was conducted as part
of the Warriors in Pink More Good Days initiative.
Survey results indicate that maintaining their daily routines
while going through treatment is a top concern of those
battling breast cancer – second only to life expectancy.
Activities patients say they need the most logistical
help with include completing household chores, running
errands and preparing balanced, healthful meals.

ALL-NEW FOCUS RS ARRIVES AT U.S.
DEALERSHIPS; FIRST CUSTOMER TAKES
DELIVERY IN SAN DIEGO
The highly coveted, all-new Ford Focus RS is now arriving at
dealerships across the U.S. and for Jackson Gilmore – the
first customer to take delivery of his RS – news of the car’s
arrival was so big he ditched work to get behind the wheel.
He has good reason to be excited. Powered by a specially
engineered version of Ford’s new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine,
the new hot hatch pumps out a monstrous 350 horsepower,
350 pound-feet of torque achieved with 93-octane fuel
and features a bevy of tricks up its sleeves in order to offer
a premium driving experience, including four different drive
modes. It’s also the fastest production Focus currently
available in the
world, dashing
from 0-62 miles
per hour in just
4.7 seconds and
topping out at a
maximum speed
of 165 mph.

Sales
The U.S. auto industry has always
been a cyclical business. We are
at the top of the cycle. As we go
through the second half of the year,
Ford and the industry will see a mix
of ups and downs in monthly sales
results.
Ford’s overall U.S. July sales were
down 3 percent against some stiff
incentive spend from one of our
main competitors, particularly in
the area of pickups but also across
the entire product portfolio.
We remained disciplined with
our incentive spend, and it showed
in our average transaction prices
(ATPs), which were up $1,600 in
July versus the same time last year.
This growth was more than double
that of the overall industry.
Incentive spend is a bit of a
balancing act, as the market itself is
very dynamic from month to month.
We are always looking to manage
share performance with incentive
spend to maximize profits.
For us, it’s not about being No. 1
or the “fastest growing” if it comes
at a major profit loss to the business.
Our ATPs are growing. We’re
optimizing profitability and returns
to our stakeholders, which has
always been a top priority.
In any industry as competitive
as auto, you’re going to have more
intense competition as people
fight for market share and sales
growth in a market that has
reached its plateau.
Stay tuned. The second half of
the year will likely produce a little
more volatility, as manufacturers
jockey for position.
Lincoln
On the success of its newest
products, U.S. Lincoln sales rose
2 percent in July.
The new 2017 MKZ, which just
started arriving in dealerships,
performed well with sales up 12
percent in July. And the all-new
MKX had a good month with sales
up 5 percent. MKX continues
to show strong retail sales
performance, with a 30 percent
gain for the month.

Canada
Canadians purchased nearly
30,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles
last month, as Ford Motor Company
of Canada, Ltd. sales were the best
on record for the month of July and
up 10 per cent from a year ago.
For the fourth time this year, more
than 13,000 Ford F-Series trucks
were sold in a month, as F-Series
set another monthly sales record.

LTP marks launch of new 10-speed transmission
By Sal Giacona
Ford Motor Company, the
United Auto Workers union and
city officials attended the June
28 launch recognition event at
Livonia Transmission Plant (LTP) to
commemorate the launch of the new
10R (10-speed) transmission.
Plant Manager Bob Groden
hosted the event, which featured
Ford and UAW speakers including
Ford President of The Americas Joe
Hinrichs, Ford Vice President of North
American Manufacturing Gary
Johnson, City of Livonia Mayor
Dennis K. Wright, UAW National Ford
Department’s Darryl Nolen, and UAW
Local 182 President Pat Bock.
The 10R transmission is the new
centerpiece product of the $1.4 billion
investment that Ford recently made
in the LTP operations, and will be
available this fall in the new 2017 F-150
with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost® engine as
well as the F-150 Raptor.
The 10R product is the first volume
production, 10-speed automatic
transmission available to consumers
from any automaker. The 10R joins
the family of rear-wheel drive
transmission products at LTP, which
includes the 6R80 and the 6R100.
“It is part of our commitment,
through the UAW-Ford agreement,
to invest over $9 billion in the lifetime
of this four-year agreement to create
over 8,500 U.S. hourly jobs in our
manufacturing facilities in the United
States,” Hinrichs said.
Johnson thanked all LTP employees
for their hard work leading up to the
launch.
“The culture at Livonia is fantastic,”
he said. “What Bob (Groden) and
Pat (Bock) have going on here, the
team effort you guys all have and
what you’ve delivered in the last few
months to get ready for this launch is
6 | July/August 2016
an exemplary performance.”
UAW Chairman Bock told employees
that they’ve earned the opportunity
represented by the 10R transmission
program and thanked them for making
LTP the “powerhouse it was back in
the day and will be in the future”.
The event message resonated
with employees.
“It’s an honor for Livonia to be
chosen for this new work; it shows
that hard work and determination
can help you in the long run. We’ve
been through some hard times and
with us sticking together and working
together, we’ve earned this work
and I’m proud of the membership,”
said Rod Wells, LTP’s UAW Local 182
sourcing union representative.
Dawn Scarberry, a 10R launch team
member since joining LTP in April,
was very happy with the event’s
message. “It’s exciting, it’s great, it’s
job security,” she said.
Ken Thompson, a team leader in the
10R Valve Body Housing Machining
department, has worked at LTP for 26
years and also liked what he heard.
“I think it’s great. We’re moving on
and making cars and doing the right
thing,” he said. “We got good people
that work here and so we’ll continue to
have good products.”
Plant Manager Groden expressed his
great appreciation to the entire Livonia
team on the launch of the new 10R
transmission and put the importance
of the day into perspective.
“June 28 was a proud day for LTP,”
he said. “We were recognized for our
outstanding performance over the
past few years and our success in
securing the new programs coming to
LTP. Our future looks bright, and once
again I thank the great workforce for
our success.”
Manufacturing
Louisville-built Ford Escape now on dealer lots
The new 2017 Ford Escape arrived
in showrooms in May, and it’s already
received accolades from the likes
of Cars.com and more – and for
good reason.
The new Escape is the first Ford
vehicle available with all-new SYNC®
Connect technology, making the
ownership experience easier through
vehicle features such as remote
start and door locking via the new
FordPass® platform. Escape is also
the first to offer SYNC 3 featuring
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
And thanks to multiple new
attention-to-detail stations at
Louisville Assembly Plant, Ford is
putting more emphasis than ever on
delivering the highest-quality Escape
to its customers.
Workers at Louisville Assembly
have been manufacturing Escape
since 2012. Since then, production
has steadily increased to meet
growing demand for the No. 1-selling
Ford Motor Company SUV. In 2015,
Louisville Assembly built 306,492
units – a record for the nameplate –
all while maintaining a high standard
of quality that put 2015 Escape in a tie
as Highest-Ranked Compact SUV by
J.D. Power in Initial Quality.
“We’re constantly evolving and
improving our processes, and the
J.D. Power award is our reward,” said
David Farley, Louisville Assembly Plant
quality manager. “It’s a real tribute to
the thousands of workers who help
create every Escape vehicle.”
Louisville Assembly is one of Ford’s
highest-volume production facilities in
the world, capable of manufacturing
up to six different vehicles at any time.
Yet with Ford’s compact SUV in such
great demand, most vehicles built at
Louisville wear an Escape badge.
Quality assurances are implemented
throughout the plant to ensure
craftsmanship is maintained at the
pressing pace with which the line
moves. A combination of state-of-theart technology methods and thorough
human scrutiny is evident from one
station to the next.
The 2017 Escape recently took top
honors in Cars.com’s annual compact
SUV challenge, besting the 2016 Kia
Sportage, 2016 Honda CR-V, 2016
Toyota RAV4 and 2016 Hyundai
Tucson to rank as the best option for
shoppers in the segment.
“The significantly refreshed Ford
Escape is a great-driving small SUV,
now with even more features for the
money,” said Patrick Olsen, Cars.
com editor in chief. “Between its
huge driver-connectivity system,
comfortable and quiet ride, and
impressive built-in storage, the Escape
is a real winner.”
Other new features available
include enhanced active park assist.
Two EcoBoost® engines are newly
available – a 1.5-liter and a 2.0-liter
twin-scroll, both with Auto Start/Stop
functionality.

DTD employees win
NASCAR tickets
Three lucky employees from Dearborn Tool & Die
(DTD) won tickets to June’s NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series race at Michigan International Speedway. The
randomly selected ticket winners at the plant were
Matthew Frasier, David Gragg and Randall Fruit.
Ford provided each with a special voucher including
a parking pass, tickets for the employee and three
guests, and a pass to the hospitality tent.
“You could see the cars and everything, sit in them
and the hospitality tent was great. They had wonderful
food, and the whole experience was wonderful. The
whole experience was great,” said Gragg, machining
specialist. “I would say that I work for the best
company in the world, and
that was super wonderful
of them to give away
tickets like that; it’s a once
in a lifetime experience.”
- Amikka Smith
STP employee recognized for
innovation
Sharonville Transmission Plant recently recognized Colin
Deming, engineering specialist in Dept. 777 Ring Gears, for
his work developing and implementing a new 6R80 7G211
Ring Gear carbide hob cutter.
The project allows for improved production time on the
hobbing operations because of increased tool life, resulting
in approximately 220 hours of reduced machine downtime
due to fewer tool changes. Tool change frequency went
from an almost daily event to once every 15 days.
Deming was also able to work with a vendor to
develop a tool sling and padded tool tube to protect the
brittle carbide cutters from damage during internal and
external transit.

Wounded Warriors Family
Support on tour with Ford
Shelby GT350
The roar of a 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang
caught plenty of attention when it pulled up to the
Dearborn Truck Plant on July 22. It was visiting as part
of the Wounded Warriors Family Support (WWFS)
High Five Tour. “We have a good relationship with Ford
and the UAW”, said Arnold Fields, major general, USMC
(Ret.). “Together we are helping to look after wounded
warriors and their families.”
The High Five Tour is a road trip to thank Americans
for their support of military families and the sacrifices
they make. The Ford Mustang is traveling more than
26,000 miles encouraging people to show their support
for military families by signing the vehicle and also
raising money. The group hopes to bring in $1,000,000
from this year’s tour, which will make stops in 48 states.
The funds raised will go towards providing veteran
programs to the combat-wounded and their families.

DSP and ALCOA continuously
improve aluminum quality
The collaborative effort between Dearborn Stamping
Plant (DSP) and materials company ALCOA has led to
significant improvement in the quality of aluminum used
in the F-Series trucks. DSP has put standards processes
in place that prevent issues with edge wave and surface
defects.
“Aluminum optimization is one of our highest priorities,”
said Theron McGee, DSP quality engineer. “The surface
trial conducted by Ford DSP and ALCOA will improve
aluminum sheet metal surface quality, reduce metal finish
and reduce scrap. We are looking forward to replicating
the results with all of Ford’s aluminum suppliers.”
Additionally, ALCOA improved the Surface Quality
Monitoring system in their own facilities to help identify
additional surface features in the coils prior to their
delivery to DSP. The surface defects are cut out of the
coil prior to shipping to DSP. During their most recent visit,
DSP spent some time with ALCOA assessing surface
defects in the blankers and identifying repetitive issues.
DSP will experience the benefit from these improvements,
including the reduction of scrap and rework, which are
substantial cost savers for the business.

Ford Wins!
Ford GT comes out on top at 24 Hours of
Le Mans 50 years after historic 1-2-3 victory
The No. 68 Ford GT of Sébastien
Bourdais, Joey Hand and Dirk Müller
crossed the finish line at Le Mans at
three o’clock on June 19 as the overall
GT winner of the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours.
The No. 69 Ford GT of Ryan Briscoe,
Scott Dixon and Richard Westbrook
joined the winners on the podium after
scoring third place.
The Nos. 66 and 67 Ford GTs finished
in fourth and ninth places, respectively.
“This is an historic moment for
the Ford Motor Company,” said Bill
Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor
Company. “We dared to dream that
we could return to Le Mans, 50 years
after the incredible 1966 win, and take
on the toughest competition in the
world. The pride we all felt when the
Ford GT crossed the line at Le Mans is
indescribable.”
First unveiled to the media at Le
Mans last year, the Ford GT’s Le Mans
victory comes just over a year after
the car turned a wheel for the first
time on May 20, 2015, at Calabogie
Motorsports Park in Canada.
“Building a new car and racing it
at Le Mans is a monumental task,”
said President and CEO Mark Fields.
“We took it on and we conquered the
biggest challenge in sportscar racing:
the Le Mans 24 Hours. It has been
incredible to share this event with our
dealers, owners, employees, sponsors
and guests who are all bursting with
pride at being part of the Ford family.”
After a titanic battle with the No.
82 Ferrari, the No. 68 Ford GT took
the lead for the final time in the 20th
hour of the race. Hand was behind the
wheel on the three occasions that the
Ford passed the Ferrari, rekindling a
50-year-old rivalry between the two
car manufacturers.
“It’s a big deal to come back here 50
years after the Ford win in 1966,” said
Hand. “We said we wanted to win but
to actually do it is huge. This team has
come so far in a short space of time.
They all worked
hard, right through
Christmas and
New Year and gave
us a race car that
we can race hard.
We drove like it
was a sprint race
for 24 hours. I’ve
won a lot of races
and this is a big
one. I’m honored
to be part of this
program.”
This victory is
particularly sweet
for Bourdais who
was born within sight of Tertre Rouge.
The Frenchman had competed at Le
Mans 10 times previously but this is his
first win.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling to be able
to make this happen,” said Bourdais.
“There was so much effort, so much
emotion, and to be the one that wins
the trophy to give to the Ford family and
everyone involved is very special.”
The No. 66 Ford GT, raced by Billy
Johnson, Stefan Mücke and Olivier Pla
was in contention for a top result during
the race’s infancy but a small electrical
problem hindered its progress.
The No. 67 Ford GT of Marino
Franchitti, Andy Priaulx and Harry
Tincknell suffered from a gearbox
issue at the start of the race so they
had to play catch up for the full 24
hours, coming home in ninth place.

A little
Mustang
magic
The Ford Mustang is one of the
most iconic cars in the history of the
automobile. It’s easy to understand
why – the smooth lines and low growl
of the engine attracts fans that span
generations.
Again this year, hundreds of
beautiful Mustangs, alongside a bevy
of other Ford classics, were on display
at the second-annual Ford Stampede
at Country Heritage Park in Milton,
Ontario. From Mustangs and Ford
Thunderbirds to Ford Falcons, Ford
Deluxe Roadsters and classic Ford
trucks, the show was a smorgasbord
of some of the most beloved vehicles
the company has ever made.
Hosted by the Golden Horseshoe
Mustang Association and the Greater
Toronto Area Mustang Club, the event
gave enthusiasts the chance to get up
close to lots of sweet rides.
“People traveled from far and wide
for the show,” said Fred Garzon,
assistant product marketing manager
for cars, Ford of Canada. “Owners got
the chance to show off their beautiful
Fords and we all got to share our
stories, memories and aspirations. It
was pretty amazing.”
The show location was not just a
scenic park setting, but also home to
30 unique historical buildings and over
20,000 artifacts. The park even features
a former 1928 Ford dealership and gas
station – a popular spot for photos.
The Ford of Canada Marketing Team
was on hand to take in the sights, talk
to Ford enthusiasts and even brought
along a new Ford Focus RS, Shelby
GT350 and Ford Fusion Sport to wow
the crowd.
“Connecting with people who love
Ford as much as I do is the best part of
the job,” continued Garzon. “It’s pretty
incredible to see the evolution of the
vehicles from early Ford classics,
right up to the brand new vehicles we
brought to display.”
In addition to the hundreds of shiny
Fords, the event featured a DJ, on-site
BBQ, door prizes, 50/50 draw, raffles
and awards. All proceeds from the
show will be donated to the Canadian
Crime Victim Foundation and the
Trillium Hospital Foundation.
Many of the featured cars are only
driven in the summer, so it was the
perfect spot to see them before they get
tucked away until the following year.

Ford, Jose Cuervo team up to make
car parts from agave
Ford Motor Company is teaming up with Jose
Cuervo® to explore the use of the tequila producer’s
agave plant byproduct to develop more sustainable
bioplastics to employ in Ford vehicles. Ford and
Jose Cuervo are testing the bioplastic for use in
vehicle interior and exterior components such as
wiring harnesses, HVAC units and storage bins.
Initial assessments suggest the material holds great
promise due to its durability and aesthetic qualities.
Success in developing a sustainable composite could
reduce vehicle weight and lower energy consumption,
while paring the use of petrochemicals and the
impact of vehicle production on the environment.

Ford GT finishing third. To commemorate the Ford GT victory, the
company illuminated the World Headquarters building in
Dearborn, Michigan with the message “GT Wins at LeMans.”
