A Day in the Life at Seabeck: Early - Arise early for a walk embracing the beauty of Seabeck. Share in a morning devotional. Breakfast - Sit at a round table for 10 in the spacious, light-filled dining room. Morning - Get inspired by the thoughtprovoking morning adult program. Children and youth join their own loving lively morning programs. Lunch - Each meal begins with grace led by a different "cabin" or house. Afternoon - First, an all-camp quiet time, then choose from an endless variety of activities including tennis, softball, Frisbee, rowing a boat or swimming in the lagoon, sitting on the porch on a rocking chair while reading or visiting, playing with the kids at one of the playgrounds, participating in a discussion group or a yoga class, tie dyeing a shirt, taking a walk on a wooded trail or just taking a nap! Dinner - Isn't it nice not to have to cook, clean or shop for five days and there's even a salmon bake on the beach. Evening - Time for campfires, vespers, a talent show, folk dancing and a snack before bed including an ice cream social. Enjoy watching the sunset from the top of the hill at Pines. When & Where: Seabeck Conference Center is on the Kitsap Peninsula, about two and a half hours by car and ferry. Camp begins at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 10 with a welcome, dinner & campfire. Camp ends after lunch on Friday, July 15. Fees & Accommodations: The costs of attending camp are a combination of program fees (which cover the cost of the program we are presenting, snacks, entertainment and other incidentals) plus lodging fees. Program fees vary depending on the age of the camper from $10 to $85. Lodging costs vary based upon the amenities of each house from a low of $290 to a high of $495. Please see the Fees Schedule for specific details. Please note that children up to age 18 are eligible for a lodging subsidy of up to $100 per child because it's so important to us that children come to Seabeck! If you need some assistance with these costs, check the scholarship box on the registration form. Priority is given to campers whose forms are in by Sunday, March 20th . Help everyone go to camp: Donations help pay the full program cost and provide scholarships. Thank you for your willingness to give extra to help make sure everyone can attend camp. Da Vita “Day” McCallister: Our presenter this year is Rev. Da Vita “Day” McCallister. Rev. Day is an Associate Conference Minister for the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ. She has been a retreat presenter and led numerous Racial Justice trainings in the UCC conferences around the country. Preschool & Elementary Programs In the morning program for preschool and elementary children, kids will enjoy making friends while engaging in handson indoor and outdoor lessons with a “Creation in Color” theme, featuring special music with acclaimed musician Rawn Harbor! We hope to see you and your children at Seabeck. Contact Rebecca Schmidt, Children’s Ministry Coordinator for more information at 206-524-2322 or [email protected]. Music & Community: Music is an important part of camp. Rawn Harbor, our presenter last year, will be our Camp Musician this year. We are glad to have him leading us in music. He will work with children and adults during our morning program. Most afternoons there are informal jam sessions and talent show practices. Evenings feature campfires, vespers, song circles, a concert with Rawn Harbor and our famous talent show (bring your instruments and skit props). Creation in Color: Embracing & Celebrating Difference During our week together we will reflect on how our passion for racial justice is rooted in the central truth that the world was created beautifully diverse – with a love for all things and all people. Understanding that many of us struggle with finding words and actions that live out this love, we will spend the week exploring this together. We will be introduced to the six stages of the Inclusivity Spectrum: Tolerance, Acceptance, Respect, Affirmation, Solidarity and Critique. Participants will gain a common language on the realms of racism that will improve our ability to engage in these sacred conversations. Workshops will challenge and inspire us to be a voice for justice in the world and will empower us to build up the “kindom” where we recognize that all of humanity is part of God’s “creation in color.” Middle & High School Youth Programs (grades 6-12) The Youth Program consists of incoming 6th grade - outgoing 12th grade youth. The morning time will also focus on “Creation in Color.” The youth will build community through singing, playing and sharing in discussions and activities. Middle and high school youth will start the morning together, and then break out into separate age groups. Contact Margaret Swanson, Director of Youth Ministries, at 206-524-2322 or [email protected]. Sports, Crafts & Discussions: After an all-camp quiet time, afternoons are "free time." Activities include: crafts, swimming, boating, baseball, volleyball, tennis, ping-pong, Frisbee, tie-dying, Bible study and speaker talk-back. You can also hike, bird watch, play games and more! Or you can just sit and relax! Volunteer: Volunteers help make camp special. You can help by leading vespers, devotions, campfire, craft or other, staff the boat dock or help with transportation.
