The Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary is a
one acre property located in Seabeck,
Washington. We are visited throughout the
year by several types of animals. As of
November 7, 2013, over 75 species of birds
have been identified.
The Sanctuary also sees a variety of
butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, snakes, lizards
and spiders. Douglas squirrels, Townsend
chipmunks, black-tailed deer, black bears,
rabbits, raccoons, common shrews, bobcats,
coyotes and meadow voles are additional
Ducks, frogs, dragonflies and several other species
find the Pond at Jamison Hill a refreshing respite
throughout the year. A clean source of drinking
water has the hummingbirds buzzing while the other
critters find time to recharge and share stories. The
Pond is the focal point of the Sanctuary.
A view from the deck is nothing
but beautiful.
The 8-spotted skimmer is a
familiar Pond visitor.
Irises are an early bloomer in our
featured flower beds.
Relaxation is a favorite pastime at
the “Butterbee”.
Be careful not to get lost within
our thick treed grounds!
Surprises abound around each
bend in the paths.
“BUTTERBEE” & AREA GARDENS
The yearly blooms of the Backyard gardens have the
bumble and honey bees dancing about. The swallow
tails and painted ladies display their wings as they
glide from petal to petal. Featured flowers are
coneflower, black-eyed susan, coreopsis, chinese
spirea, astilbe, asters, mums, gay feather and more!
favorite customers.
THE WOODS
We attempt to use the most
environmentally safe methods to take
care of our habitat. We provide continuous
food (both natural and supplied) and water to
ensure the best life possible for our furry,
scaled and feathered friends!
The perimeter of the Sanctuary is surrounded by a
mixed forest of the conifers and deciduous trees.
Several native plant species--such as cream bush,
yarrow, pussy-toes and huckleberry--accent each of
the pathways throughout the woods. Birdwatching is
a must activity!
