GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
Summer is definitely here. We are preparing for the upcoming
Olympics by highlighting programming that looks back at the amazing
stories of previous Olympic Games beginning with Jim Thorpe:
World’s Greatest Athlete on Sunday, July 31 at 9:00 p.m. Plus,
with the political conventions coming this month, we invite you to
tune in for The White House, Inside Story, a new documentary
airing on Sunday, July 24 at 6:00 p.m.
Our new WQPT/PBS Ambassadors are busy this summer expanding
Mary Pruess WQPT’s reach into our surrounding areas with activities that are
designed to help children learn how discover the outdoors and
explore. Kids will learn about applying the lessons from PBS KIDS
program Nature Cat, with assistance from the Ambassadors and
our own Mr. Scott.

WQPT is a partner in TallgrassesQC—a collaborative initiative
that raises awareness of prairie ecology in the Quad Cities region,
highlighting the value of native prairie plants and landscapes and
their importance as a habitat for butterflies, bees and other
pollinators. Last month WQPT helped in planting grasses that will
grow to be 8 to 10 feet tall across the street from the Figge Art
Museum. The Davenport patch is a mix of grasses and wildflowers
that will eventually turn yellow, lavender, blue, purple and white.
TallgrassQC has organized an exhibit at the Figge Art Museum.
Nahant Marsh also has several activities planned, including the
recent Pollinators’ Conference. Visit tallgrassqc.org, the website
developed by partner WVIK for events and more information.
Enjoy the summer fun.
