Tartan Garage Sale – September 18th!
The kids are back to school and now you are facing the piles that have accumulated
over the summer. Where did all of this stuff come from? Tartan Cares can help you
with an incentive to purge! We are hosting a garage sale on September 18th and 19th.
We would love donations of household items, toys, furniture, books, games, and sports
gear. Proceeds will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for teens which are identified
by Angel Tree. We are expecting this to be an even bigger event this year. If you are
able to help set up or work the sale, we would love to have you! It is fun and worthwhile!
Contact Betsy Morrison at 763-0428 or Nicole Hyzdu at 873-0004 to get more information.

Fundraiser for Tartan Fields Resident
– October 13, 2009
Tartan Fields Golf Club is the chosen venue for the Tuesday,
October 13th 2009 at 10AM “Madison’s Angels Hitting the
Links For a Cure” golf outing.
Several Tartan Fields residents are volunteering to help with
this very important event. Madison is a beautiful 12 year old
young lady that lives here in our Dublin community. She has
spinal muscle atrophy type 1 (the most fatal) and is an inspiration to many. Most children with type 1 SMA do not make it to
see their 2nd Birthday.
Her family devotes countless hours to help raise funds for The
OSU SMA Lab and The Research Institute at Nationwide
Children’s Hospital. For more information about SMA and how
you can help, please visit www.MiracleforMadison.org.
We are asking Tartan Fields residents to please consider helping
in the following ways:
• Put together golf foursomes to play the day of outing. The
cost is $500 per team and includes lunch, 18 holes of golf (shot
gun start-Best Ball), prizes and more!
• We need 18 Local businesses to become hole sponsors for
$50 each to advertise their business on the course the day of the
event. If you own or work for a business that would be interested please contact us at www.MiracleforMadison.org and click
on “contact us”.
• One business event sponsor for $3,000 that includes your
company as the presenting sponsor of the golf event, name,
business logo and web link on Miracle for Madison website,
event signage, full page ad in event day program and 1 foursome.
To sign up for the Oct. 13th golf outing, please visit
www.MiracleforMadison.org as soon as possible and complete a
registration form and send it in to the address provided.
Thank you for your consideration to help us fund continued
research for a cure for SMA!

4 Seasons
Lodge
The Tartan Times
September
the tartan times presents
”
our featured living space for september
In the winter of 2009, after one and a half years of construction,
our family finished building an environmentally friendly and
energy efficient Green Certified and National Wild Life Federation Certified 3,300 square feet custom built 4 bedroom and
3 full bathroom fully furnished vacation home on 33 private and
scenic hillside acres in the beautiful Hocking Hills. The home is
within walking distance from Ash Cave and just a few minutes’
drive to many of the must-see natural attractions at Old Man’s
Cave, nature trails, state park.
Our intention for this lodge was to create harmonious and
joyful family and friend traditions, gatherings for corporate
retreats, church retreats, girlfriend getaways and so forth. This
lodge allows all guests to enjoy nature to the fullest while
practicing responsible and environmentally friendly choices in
recycling opportunities, all natural plant based cleaning supplies, rain water conservation techniques, all energy efficient
appliances and windows, custom automation technology that
controls utilities, security system and interior/ exterior lighting
by lap top computer to avoid waste when the lodge is not in use.
The master bedroom has all organic bedding and master bath
has 100% bamboo towel sets. Many items in the house are fair
trade and Ten Thousand Villages. Much of the home’s floors
are Amish hand scraped wood produced right here in Ohio.
Many of the decorative and "green" items in 4 Seasons Lodge
was purchased from Heather and Steve Johnson, owners of
"Generation Green" located at 6375 Sawmill Rd. in Dublin (in
the Trader Joes Plaza).
Our home in the hills features 2 fireplaces, 3 plasma TV’s,
Direct TV service, long distance phone service anywhere in the
U.S., DVD player, Blue Ray player, 75 plus stocked on-site mov-
ies and board games, hundreds of books, a pool table, foosball
table, poker table, a large hot tub with CD player, I-pod docking
stations, outdoor built-in large gas grill, rain shower, Jacuzzi tub
with jets/ mood lights, a gourmet kitchen, elevator, stove pot
filler, dishwasher, microwave and fully furnished spices for the
Thanksgiving Holiday weekend for up to a total of 12 people!
The lodge also has several ADA features like a concrete parking
area next to the wheelchair ramp at the front entrance, an elevator and large walk in/ roll in shower, wide doorways throughout
the home. These custom features allow our guests to bring an
aging loved one or a family member or friend that has any type
of a mobility challenge/ disability so ALL guests can be comfortable, enjoy quality time together without mobility barriers!
Outdoors we planted hundreds of native ferns and ground cover,
perennials and bulbs. We built a stream and pond with an aerator water fountain and planted a ¾ acre wild flower prairie that
will reach maturity in 2010 and 2011 to feed and provide shelter
for local wild life. The hardy bamboo trees will be breath-taking
and continue to spread throughout their rhizomes’/roots in the
years ahead. Bamboo is the most environmentally friendly plant
on our earth. There are also two additional varieties of bamboo
trees inside the lodge. The land and lodge are certified by the
National Wildlife Federation for environmentally friendly practices, providing extra food, water and shelter for wildlife to raise
their young. We frequently see the deer that travel our lodge
land, wild turkey and other wildlife that visit too. The butterflies are beautiful and we planted several perennials that attract
them!
We have been told many times by the Hocking Hills Visitors

Dean or Darla directly at (614)774-0425 or (614)206-9507 to
make reservation/availability or other inquiries. This offer is for
Tartan Fields residents only to take advantage of the very best
and impossible-to-beat price for quality lodging in the heart of
the Hocking Hills.
Starting in January 2010, the Minamyer family would like to
make our vacation home available at a very reduced short term
rental rate for Tartan Fields residents only the last weekend of
every calendar month year round (Arrive anytime after 3PM on
Thursday and depart on Sunday at 11AM) by calling Dean or
Darla Minamyer directly at (614) 774-0425 or (614)206-9507
for a rental fee of just $999, no additional cleaning fees, damage deposits or charges! There is a well established property
management company in the region that frequently rents our
home for $615 a night on the weekends plus lodging tax on top
of that! We look around our community and see our neighbors
caring for their homes so we know they will respect ours as well
and we feel comfortable offering such a big discount to responsible and caring people that live in our immediate community.
How would you like to spend Thanksgiving here this year? We
are hoping to find a Tartan resident that is interested in renting our vacation home for the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.
You and up to a total of 12 guests can relax on a 4 night and 5
day vacation (arrive anytime Wednesday, Nov. 25th after 3PM
and stay through departure time of 11AM on Sunday, November 29th for a donation check of $1,499.00 written directly to
“Grizzell Middle School”. The FIRST Tartan resident to call
Darla at (614) 774-0425 to make the reservation and issue a
check for our school to help Grizzell Middle School will be
guaranteed the reservation and very much appreciated. Thank
you so much for your consideration!
The local property management company is not authorized to
give any discounts to Tartan residents. They rent the house for
full price year round and we use that opportunity to donate 5%
of all rental proceeds every month to The Dublin Education
Foundation to support all the Dublin schools and an additional
5% of all rental proceeds every month to Franklin County Special Olympics via direct deposit from the property management
company to some of our favorite local based charities.
To receive the nearly 50% discount for long weekend stays the
end of each month, you can’t book on-line and need to call
Our family, along with many others in our community, wants
to continue to creatively find ways to help our school purchase
more Smart Boards to enhance the technology education for
the students in our district! We want to extend this offer every
year until EVERY class room has a Smart Board in it!
Each month we try to write a feature about Tartan Fields home’s decor in the Tartan
Times feature called “Living Spaces”. If you would like your home or a neighbor’s
home highlighted in the next available monthly Tartan Times, please email your
contact information and attach a few high-resolution photos of your featured space to

Business Location:
8351 Tartan Fields Dr. – Dublin, OH
43017. I work from home – I have all my
catalogs, wood samples, fabric samples
available to look at in my home or will
bring them to clients.
Anything extraordinary/unique that
your company does:
Personalized Interiors. Everyone has an
idea of what they want but they don’t
always know exactly how to get it. I do
a lot of listening to my clients and then
help them achieve their look. It’s a lot of
fun to be invited into someone’s home to
help them with their look. Everyone has
something unique that they’re looking
for.
How many people does the company
employ?
For now it’s just me
How long have you lived in the neighborhood?
4 years
Tell us about your family, hobbies/interests, volunteer work?
I have 4 children, Morgan (16) Drew,
Mitch & Greg (triplets – 11 ½) and a
wonderful, supportive husband (Andy).
We’ve lived in the Dublin area for almost
16 years now and love it! My work is my
main interest – I’ve loved decorating interiors since I was a little girl. When I was
young my dad would have me show him,
to scale, what I wanted to do with my
room. I loved to rearrange it so he had
to make sure it would work first! I still
rearrange rooms in my house but I don’t
have to give anyone a drawing now! It’s
wonderful when you get to do something
you love!
Tell us what events led up to where you
are now…where did you go to school,
what has been your career path?
I have a BS in Marketing from Kent
State University where I also took Interior Design. After school I worked in
retail for a long time, having children
along the way. When the boys were old
enough to go to school (halleluiah!) I
took a job with a company and sold furniture, rugs, lamps, etc. to stores in central
and southern Ohio. It was very fun but
I wanted my own company. I left my job
and opened a store with my best friend
and we were open for 3 years. We had to
close it this past April because of circumstances beyond our control. I started a
new company in May and so far it’s been
fantastic! It’s great because the company
is online and in the clients home. I have
all my catalogs & samples at my fingertips any time of day so I can get a lot
done in a fairly short period of time.
I’m very excited about the new home party division – the jewelry that I’ve found is
wonderful and some of it is very custom.
Plus, everyone likes something with their
name or initial on it!
Given your business expertise and the
nature of what you do, what advice can
you offer to the residents of your neighborhood?
Don’t be afraid to do something extraordinary in your home! Go big on accessories, even in a small area, it will give
your room some pop & sizzle! Spend a
little extra on lamps – they’re worth it – a
good lamp can make a room! When you
get something new it should make you
smile when you walk by it and have fun
with your home – it’s a reflection of your
personality!

Fishing Fun
in tartan fields
Andy Kloss loves to fish in the ponds in Tartan Fields with his dad. This bass came from the pond on Hole
Number 14. It weighed in at about 3 and a half pounds. Andy fishes everywhere in Tartan Fields, but his
favorite spots are Hole Number 14, Hole Number 8 and the creek in front of the 10th green. Andy carefully
throws all of the fish back (after photos of course) so they can be caught another day.

Bringing Healthcare
issues into financial planning
June 2009 — This column is provided by the Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) of Cental Ohio.
Many people plan their finances as if
they’ll never be sick a day in their lives.
Yet the cost of a serious illness is all it
takes to devastate most U.S. households
financially. During his March healthcare
summit, President Obama said that the
cost of health care now causes a bankruptcy in America every 30 seconds and
by the end of 2009, could cause 1.5 million Americans to lose their homes.
With such dire predictions, it’s essential
that financial planning take a worst-case
scenario view of not only what can happen to your finances if you’re sick, but
also ways to deal with the financial exposure if you lose your job and your health
insurance. A Certified Financial Planner™ professional is trained to discuss
key financial preparations you need to
make to handle any kind of personal or
family health crisis.
But there are steps you can take by yourself to control your risk.
Take off the weight: While dealing first
with the numbers on your bathroom
scale will have immediate health benefits,
it will also make your health insurance
options and potential out-of-pocket
costs more affordable over time. A recent
Stanford University and Rand Corporation study reported that lifetime medical
costs related to diabetes, heart disease,
high cholesterol, hypertension and stroke
among the obese are $10,000 higher than
among the non-obese. It added that lifetime medical costs could be reduced by
$2,200 to $5,300 following a 10 percent
reduction in body weight.
Grill your agent or HR person: Whether you buy health insurance through an
agent or your employer, insist that they
explain exactly what you’re getting for
your premium, and where deductibles do
and don’t apply. If you’re purchasing your
own insurance policy, compare the premium savings from a higher deductible plan
with your usage pattern of health services.
What you save can often cover your high
deductible.
Weigh life insurance options while
you’re healthy: A CFP® can help you
make sure you’re carrying the right
amount of life insurance to support your
family and other heirs as well as cover
any remaining medical bills that might
remain after you die.
Discuss potential cost of any diagnosis:
If your physician diagnoses a particular
illness that requires tests, prescription
drugs, a hospital stay or ongoing therapy, be very blunt about what you’ll be
charged, from the doctor’s bills to ongoing ancillary costs associated with treatment. Ask the doctor or his office manager to possibly negotiate a discounted fee
for service. It’s possible to get discounts
through cash payments as well.
Ask for generics and samples: Many
physicians are willing to recommend a
generic substitute or at least supply you
with a few samples of the drug they’re
already prescribing. While doctors can’t
get away with passing sample drugs to all
their patients, always ask. As long as they
are prescribing the medication, samples
with the proper dosage can provide cost
savings to patients.
Check local pricing resources: In nonemergency situations, you should always
compare prices on treatments. Check
with local medical boards and state health
officials to see if they have online databases on costs for various medical procedures. Also, if there is a support group
for your condition, talk to members about
what they paid locally for care.
Talk to a financial advisor about planning for long-term care: If you or a
loved one is diagnosed with a chronic illness, that’s a financial issue that requires
a plan. As tough as it may be to focus on
money issues at a stressful time, make an
appointment with a tax professional or
planner to discuss affordability options
that will safeguard your assets.
Begin negotiations before there’s a
problem: The best time to speak with
hospital bean counters isn’t when you’re
behind on your payments. Once a diagnosis is made, either you or someone you
designate as your agent needs to contact
the hospital business office to check on
payment schedules and possible discount
plans if you are uninsured or fear your
insurance may not cover a significant
portion of costs. Any creditor appreciates
a customer who’s willing to come to the
table first.

Subway now open at the DCRC
Subway’s “Eat Fresh” approach to fast
food makes it a perfect fit for the Dublin
Community Recreation Center. Subway
provides first-class service to patrons
and reflects the DCRC’s goal of helping maintain healthy lifestyles. We’re
excited about this partnership. The idea
of having a Subway in the DCRC came
from requests from patrons who wanted
healthy, fresh, quality food and beverage
services. Subway offers a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, snacks, breakfast
items, fountain drinks, coffee and tea.
Restaurant franchise owner Sherri Todd
and her staff look forward to serving you!

Healthy Dublin
Healthy Dublin is a collaborative community outreach program accessible to
every person who lives or works in Dublin, designed to encourage individuals
to take personal responsibility for their
health in a supportive, community-based
environment. The City of Dublin, Medical Mutual of Ohio, Dublin Methodist
Hospital, Dublin Chamber of Commerce
and Dublin City Schools have joined
forces to make Healthy Dublin a success.
Healthy Dublin will encourage healthier
lifestyle choices and create a culture of
wellness by offering health screenings,
wellness programs and education to help
individuals prevent and manage chronic
disease. Healthier choices can lead to
increased longevity and reduced healthcare costs, which benefits the entire Dublin community.

Emerging Destinations Around the Globe
Some travel destinations – Hawaii, Las Vegas and London come to
mind – seem to be perennial favorites, always popular with tourists. But travel has trends, and over time new favorite destinations
emerge.
travel programs that feature more than 20 resorts in Costa Rica.
Vacationers can choose from hotels and resorts, including some
all-inclusive options, in Guanacaste, Puntarenas, San Jose, Monteverde and Arenal.
Travel Leader’s 2008 Travel Trends Survey identified several destinations currently emerging for vacation travel. Travelers’ desire for
new adventures and their cultural curiosity – even the desire to use
the passports that more Americans now possess – contribute to
the up-and-coming status of new locations around the globe.
To plan your next vacation to an emerging destination, talk with
your travel professional.
Several destinations in Eastern Europe rated “emerging” status this
year, including Croatia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. In Asia,
China leads the way as an emerging destination, perhaps due to
the exposure we had to China during the 2008 Summer Olympics.
In the Middle East, Dubai is an emerging destination, based mainly
on growing interest from upscale travelers. South America offers a
range of emerging destinations, including Brazil, Peru, Argentina,
Chile, Venezuela and the Galapagos Islands.
In Central America, Costa Rica is the overwhelming choice as an
emerging destination. To help meet the quickly rising demand for
vacations in Costa Rica, Travel Leaders has recently launched new
