AUCTIONEERS FORWARD:
Sunderlands and Thompsons LLP are delighted and privileged to be hosting this year’s annual Vintage
auction at Welland. We have an excellent entry of collectables and some very notable lots on offer. This
is a genuine collective sale with the added benefit of several part dispersals to include the genuine
dispersal of stationary engines from Messrs Price Engineers of Gloucester. This dispersal includes a
terrific collection that is a credit to the Price family and well worth viewing. The engines have been well
looked after and we would certainly encourage all enthusiasts to come and have a look. Another notable
entry is the Aveling and Porter Steam engine which is receiving considerable interest as is the Marshall
Model M tractor. Both of these lots appear to be in good order.
This sale provides a terrific opportunity for potential purchasers to acquire some terrific items from the
bygone eras and we look forward to seeing you all on sale day.

The Welland Steam & Country Rally is held at Woodside Farm, mid-way between Upton-Upon-Severn
and Malvern. There is easy access to the nearby motorway network of the M5 and the M50.
All traffic is encouraged to avoid Upton-Upon-Severn town centre. If arriving from the east on the
A4104, ALL RALLY TRAFFIC MUST TURN RIGHT after crossing Upton Bridge and follow the
yellow ‘Steam Rally’ signs via the B4211/B4209 and Hanley Swan’.

TIME OF SALE:
The sale will start at 10.30am PROMPT. Viewing will be available on the morning of the sale from 8am
onwards. Three Rings starting at various times outlined in catalogue.

however the conditions in this catalogue will override any other. By attending or bidding at the sale you
are deemed to have read all the terms and conditions of sale and will adhere and be bound to such terms

SETTLEMENTS AND CLEARANCE OF ACCOUNTS:
Settlement in full is due to the auctioneers on the day of the sale. Each and every lot must be paid for
before removal from the field. All Lots must be removed from the premises on the day of the sale unless
specifically agreed with the auctioneers.

This is a 1938 John Deere that I have owned since
1968. It was the first tractor to attend the Much
Marcle rally in 1970. It is fitted with a mid-mounted
cultivator.

1441 Massey Ferguson 35 Genuine Tractor Reg: YW089K (1960)
This is one of the sought after TVO versions. This
tractor has been on the same farm and with the same
family since August 1960. It is a very genuine tractor
that has always been cared for.
1442 4wd Roadless John Deere 730 24V Start, Live Drive, Rear 3 Point Hydraulics & Linkage
This is a 1959 Two-Cylinder John Deere 730, 24 volt
electric start diesel, live drive, rear 3 point hydraulics
and linkage, fitted with a 4 wheel drive axle.
There was a plan to supply Roadless axles to The USA
to be fitted on John Deere 730s. Roadless went out of
business before production began, and the tractor for
sale here is the prototype and is unique, and remains
the only JD ever fitted with a Roadless axle.

1444 Fowler VF Crawler Fitted with Bray Blade
This is a 1952 Fowler VF crawler fitted with a Bray
blade and a Boughton winch and anchor, and is also
registered for road use.
This crawler has been thoroughly overhauled with
over £8000 being spent on parts alone. In addition to
an extensive engine and transmission overhaul the
track chains have been renewed and all the running
gear replaced or rebuilt. The final drives are VFA
specification and have been assembled with custom
made high tensile bolts. The steering brakes are
Track Marshall 55 specification.

1450 Aveling and Porter Steam Engine 1908 (Lady Gosen)
Lady Gosen was built in July 1908 by Aveling
and Porter of Rochester in Kent as an R10 roller
and given the works number 6573. The engine is
of double crank compound design and weighs 12
tons. The engine was supplied with compensating
traction gear so that she could be converted for
traction duties.
The engine was supplied new to Denbighshire
County Council (North Wales) in 1908 originally
turned out as “County of Denbigh” where she
stayed for her working life. A copy of the original
specification is supplied with the engine as well as
associated drawings.
The engine was working for the council as late as
1958 but was subsequently sold for scrap, like so many of her counterparts. The engine was saved from
the “cutters torch” and was variously owned by Vernon’s pools and John Dalton of Yorkshire until she
was bought in the late 80’s by a Pembrokeshire family. The present owner bought the engine in 1995.
The engine was rallied for 5 years until a routine boiler inspection found the firebox and front tube plate
required replacing. The work was completed over a 3 year period and the engine was turned out in 2003
fully restored in tractor form.
In 2008 Lady Gosen celebrated her 100th birthday, she has been regularly rallied ever since usually belted
up to the owner’s Ransomes Simms and Jefferies 36” thrashing machine.
The engine is sold with full current boiler test and a hydraulic test having been completed in 2014. There
is a range of spare parts and accessories which are available with the engine.

Terms & Conditions
Registration
All purchasers must register and collect a Buyers Number before bidding. Photographic ID eg Passport or Drivers
Licence and proof of address such as a Utility Bill will be required. Any buyer unable to produce a buyers number
at the fall of the hammer the lot or lots purchased may be immediately put up again and re-sold
Payment
All items purchased must be paid for on the day of the sale immediately at the conclusion of the auction or earlier.
Purchasers unknown to the Auctioneers should provide a bankers draft above the amount they wish to spend.
Payment on the day of the sale strictly by Cash, Debit or Credit Card. Credit cards are subject to a surcharge.
Buyers Premium
3% Buyers Premium will be charged on the purchase price at this sale with a maximum of £250 per lot and
minimum of £2 per lot.
VAT
VAT will be charged at the standard rate of 20% and will be added to the purchase price of all lots unless otherwise
stated. Items that are subject to VAT have been denoted with “V” however the auctioneers accept no responsibility
for any error and vendors must satisfy themselves at the point of sale as to the VAT status of the lot.
Export Buyers
1. Overseas purchasers from within EC Countries - VAT will be charged at the standard rate unless you supply
your VAT/Fiscal Number and other relevant information to enable goods to be invoiced at Zero rate for VAT
purposes. If this information is not provided or the purchaser is not VAT registered then VAT will be charged at
20%.
Purchasers or their haulier must sign a Collection Certificate on collection. Failure to do so will result in VAT
becoming payable and this VAT will not be recoverable.
2. Overseas purchasers from NON EC Countries - You will be required to pay a VAT deposit equivalent to the
standard UK rate of VAT (20%). This VAT deposit will be refunded to the overseas purchaser if the auctioneers
receive within one month of the “time of supply” a satisfactory Bill of Lading or Certificate of Shipment as proof
of shipment of the lots outside the EC, failing this the VAT deposit will be paid over to Customs and Excise as
VAT.
NB. All overseas purchasers should contact the auctioneers at least two days prior to the sale to register and
confirm their VAT status.
Health & Safety
Attendance at the Sale is done so entirely at your own risk. Neither the auctioneers nor the landowners accept any
responsibility or liability for any damage, injury or accident howsoever caused.
Sold as Seen / No Warranty
All lots are sold as seen with no warranty implied or given in any way (unless sold under manufacturer’s warranty)
and Buyers must investigate the roadworthiness, fitness and suitability of each lot. The catalogue description is
provided by the vendors and the auctioneers accept no responsibility for any error or mis-description, the
purchasers must satisfy themselves as to the quality and authenticity of each and every lot. The catalogue
description is subject to change by the date of the sale. The lots to be taken away whether genuine and authentic or
not, with all faults and errors of every description and to be at the risk of the purchaser immediately after the fall of
the hammer but must be paid for in full before the property in the goods passes to the buyer. The auctioneer will
not hold himself responsible for the incorrect description or authenticity of or any fault or defect in any lot and
makes no warranty. To prevent inaccuracy and inconvenience in the settlement of purchases, no lot may be
removed either during or after the sale without being previously paid for. If any person neglects or refuses to
comply with any of the foregoing conditions, the auctioneer shall be at liberty to resell the lot and any deficiency
that may arise in the resale, together with all expenses attending it shall be made good by the defaulter.
Reservation of Title/Release
The title of all lots remains vested in Sunderlands & Thompsons until payment in full has been made. Lots may not
be released until payment has cleared.
Security/Insurance
The responsibility of all lots transfers to the purchaser on the fall of the hammer. No lots may be collected until
payment has been made in full to the auctioneers. Purchasers are advised to obtain insurance cover for all their lots
whilst remaining on the sale site. No liability for any loss or damage to sold lots will be accepted by the vendor or
the auctioneers.
Agency
The auctioneers act as Agents only and are not responsible for any default by the buyer. The auctioneers disclaim
liability for paying the vendor until they have received settlement from the purchaser.

Commissions
The Auctioneers can purchase previewed lots on behalf of purchasers who are unable to attend on the day of sale.
Sale Procedure
The highest bidder to be the buyer. If any dispute arises regarding any bidding the Lot, at the sole discretion of the
auctioneers, may be put up and sold again. The bidding to be regulated by the auctioneer. In the case of Lots upon
which there is a reserve, the auctioneer shall have the right to bid on behalf of the Vendor.
Power Take Off Drive Shafts.
All pto drive shafts and control boxes or other detachable items must be securely attached to the machine. If none
of these are evident then the purchaser must assume that they are not available or included in the sale. The
Auctioneers take no responsibility for any parts, PTOs missing or any other damage to or loss of the machine whilst
on the premises.
Health & Safety Disclaimer.
The auctioneers have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these
measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring
and must adhere to instructions of the auctioneers and their porters. All persons attend the sale at their own risk and
