Winds generally blow northeast to southeast at 1020 knots. In the winter months, the winds can be stronger and blow more northeasterly. The tidal range is about 30 cm. Currents are only noticeable in the narrow passages between Tortola and St. John running 1-2 knots. Year round temperatures range between 24º-31ºC. Navigation can be tricky due to numerous reefs. Winds are nearly always from the east blowing 10-25 knots. Weather The area is constantly cooled by trade winds, so it’s comfortable any time of the year. Average temperature is 26ºC. Travel Notes Our St Martin base is located on the east coast of the French side at Captain Oliver’s Marina. Princess Juliana Airport is located on the Dutch side, which is a 45 minute taxi ride. Komiza and Stonica Bay offer good anchorages. Enjoy a couple of hours sailing to Proidz islet, in the rich fishing grounds off the northwest tip of Korcula island, then have dinner at the lively port of Vela Luka. Set sail early to explore Kneza to the north of the Peljeski Channel. Arrive early at Palkeni’s Palmizana Marina and take a water taxi to Hvar, home to the oldest theatre in Europe.
