Pope Francis has also imposed new financial accountability standards on the multimillion-dollar machine after uncovering gross abuses that were subsequently revealed in two books. The books estimated the average cost for each beatification at around $550,000, with much of the proceeds going to a few lucky people with contracts to do the time-consuming investigations into the candidates’ lives. st. teresa? Why is Mother Teresa a saint? And why is she the icon for Pope Francis’ Holy Year of Mercy? For her admirers, it’s obvious. “Mother is known throughout the whole world for her works of mercy, recognised by Christians and nonChristians alike,” said Sister Mary Prema Pierick, the current superiorgeneral of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity order. “Reflecting about Mother and the life of our mother, we see all the works of mercy corporal and spiritual put into action.” “She crossed all barriers like castes, races, gender, ethnic, religious, cultural and turned into and remained the mother of the whole civilisation,” he said. “In the history of sainthood and that of Christianity, she is the first saint of Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, non-religious and of course for Christians.” AP J ude Joseph, Proprietor of Vasco Based travel agency, Rose Holidays, is a great follower of Mother Teresa. In past, he visited Kolkata a couple of times. He had then visited the tomb where Mother Teresa was buried. He claimed that, though he wanted to go alone to take part in Canonization celebrations to be held in Kolkata on September 4, however, one day he dreamt that the God wanted him to take people from Goa to the City of Joy (Kolkata). Although the canonization of Mother Teresa will take place at the Vatican on September 4, a group of 88 people from Goa have already reached Kolkata on Friday to take part in the celebrations there and to attend special Masses and prayer meetings to be held at tomb. “In june while surfing the Internet, I came upon the canonization news. However, the date was not finalized. After a week, it was confirmed. Though I was intending to go alone to Kolkata to witness and be a part of the celebrations there, I felt an inner voice (God) asking me to take a group of people interested to be a part of the celebrations in Kolkata. Thus, I planned an itinerary and a package”. Talking about the special package, he said “All this started in June and as per my plan, I was intending to take a group of 20 people, however, more and more people (from doctors to advocates, businessmen as well as gazetted officers from Goa) visited my office to book their tickets for the special package to Kolkata. Till August, 87 people had got themselves registered,” he said. “As I had frequented the Missionaries of Charity in Mother House in Kolkata in the past, it was very easy for me to get the consent of sisters in the Mother House to bring along the group of Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. people from Goa to take part in the celebrations. For the accommodation, I got confirmed bookings in hotels located close to Mother House.” The special package offered by Jude was of Rs 25000, which includes flight fare, accommodation, sight- seeing and food. “Such a cheap package cannot be offered by anyone as the flight fare to Kolkata itself is very high but Indigo airlines was kind enough to offer affordable prices for our package”. According to the itinerary, Jude will take his group to Mother House, the tomb, to several orphanages started by Mother Teresa. The group would be taken to the chapel of Mother Teresa and due to special efforts by Jude, the group would also be getting opportunity to offer mass and prayers offered during Canonisation celebrations, besides a tour of the City of Joy. Many at the Vatican would agree, but the Catholic Church nevertheless has a gruelling process to make it official, involving volumes of historical research, the hunt for miracles and teams of experts to weigh the evidence. Here’s a look at the process: making saints got opportunity to meet Mother Teresa at Nagpur said expressing his happiness that Mother was a living saint and now she is being made saint again for the second time. When contacted, Sister Loureena informed that St. Joseph’s Home is one of them among the four shelter homes of Society of Missionaries of Charity in Goa. It was in 1988 Mother Teresa agreed to the proposal of Cabido Canon Alvaro Pinto and took over the St. Joseph’s Home and then the house was inaugurated March 18 in 1988. “Initially, the sisters were residing and serving the destitutes in the same house but later seeing their hardship, Canon Pinto had donated additional land opposite to the house where they constructed the convent and it was inaugurated on October 30 in 1995 at the hands of Emeritus Archbishop Raul Gosalves” informed Sister Loureena and said that in the same year the women destitute shifted to their house at Carambolim. Now, there are 56 destitute men from different States and six sisters are looking after them in the home. The men have no one, they are old and mostly psychiatric and sufferings from various disease. “God always provides everything,” said Sister Loureena with a smiling face when asked her how they manage to provide them (destitutes) with their basic necessities. Sister also informed that the inmates are taught to make various handmade items, paintings beside house work. Superior of Missionaries of Charity’s Jyothi Bhavan at Cotto-Fatorpa Sister Teres Joseph MC said that they are very glad and thankful to God for the elevation of Mother Teresa to sainthood. According to Sister Joseph there are 55 women destitutes in their home and five sisters are taking their care. “I joined the congregation in 1982 and during my formation years I got opportunity to be with her for three and half years and I have seen that Mother was very concern about all the sisters and always taught us to make use of each movement in the presence of God.” said Sister Joseph.
