The Editor’s Ruminations
My Mackenzie, (Kenz, Kenzie, Mack––you pick the nickname) was in Visalia
with her mother and sister Mackayla (KK) recently to purchase a dress for her
first prom. We had a wonderful day, these three generations, and it was fun to
see what Kenzie picked out so she would feel
beautiful.
We had a nice lunch downtown, and headed
back to the house to see grandpa. Somehow we
landed in my sewing room; and Mackenzie said,
“Grandma, how many quilts could you make
without buying any more fabric?” I sucked in
air and answered, “Oh, about 20 or so.” What
made this sweet, smart, athletic, charming child
think of a question like that. After all, she was
in my sewing room in my house. This got me to
thinking about the stash each of you has tucked
away somewhere. So here are some thoughts:
•
How do you organize your stash––i.e. by color, project, amount of yardage,
etc?
•
Where do you keep your stash––bins, cupboards, bathtubs, trunk of your
car?
•
How much yardage do you purchase if you find a piece of fabric you can’t
leave in the store?
•
What’s your favorite way to purchase fabric, on–line, store, quilt show––and
why?
•
What’s your favorite quilt store and where is it located?
I’m certain you can think of other things to write about stash––these are just a few
suggestions to get you going. When members contribute to the newsletter, I get
many comments on how much you enjoy reading what others have to say. What
I’m asking for is a paragraph or two about your own stash. You can e–mail it to
me at [email protected] or hand me a printed copy at a meeting. I’ll fit your
stash experiences into future issues of the newsletter as space provides.
Ann has returned from her vacation in Mexico, and I told her I would take
care of this little ditty for June. She’ll be back in July writing her own
quilting tidbits. Until then . . .
Keep on Stashing,

New Member Tea
Seven new members attended the new member orientation hosted by our president, Ann Hinman. The
gathering was informal and gave the new members an opportunity to learn the “lingo” of the Guild, ask
questions, and become acquainted with one another. Thanks, Ann, for your outreach!
Phyllis Binkley to Present June Workshop
Share in a workshop where you’ll learn the basics to be able to create
your own one–of–a–kind masterpiece. Phyyllis’ work includes machine
and hand embroidery, machine thread painting, beads, three–dimensional
fabrics, trapunto etc. to add interest, textures, and sparkle to the landscape.
Sign up now for this superb class. Call Dyanne Cox, program chair.
June Theme Quilt
Ants and watermelon—reminders of a picnic don’t you think.
Wonder how many watermelons
will be on display at the June
meeting?
