crafts, learn to use a bow and arrow in archery, and so much more. Just
four miles away on Rural Route 650 is the 190-acre Waredaca farm.
Campers will spend one full day a week here for outdoor challenges and
nature activities that include a 40 foot climbing tower, lakefront activities,

Mountainside Camp: campers will have the opportunity to build their
self- esteem on the adventure course, embrace their curiosity by

Mountainside campers and staff. Mountainside features a 700 foot zip
line, 50 foot climbing wall, expansive pool with slide, manicured ball fields,
playground, basketball court, street hockey rink, outdoor amphitheater,
game room, fishing pond, and over a mile of hiking trails. There are nearly
limitless possibilities for what your child could experience in a given day.

fly fishing, climbing, soccer, basketball. Also offered are survival and
training camps. These camps operate out of the Ranch and Mountainside,

benefit from these supports, including, but not limited to, students who are
diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome/ASD, PDD-NOS, NVLD or ADHD.

Description
Montessori Summer Program (2.5-5 years): This program strengthens the
skills that children developed during the school year and acquaints incoming
students with the Montessori classroom. Under the guidance of an
experienced Montessori teacher, children learn by making their own personal
discoveries. Concentration, motivation self-discipline and love of learning are
all encouraged and enhanced. Every session has a theme and students
explore the theme within and beyond the Montessori curriculum, through art,
games and hands on activities. Students attend a weekly field trip and also
visit the pool once a week and receive a lesson with a certified instructor.
Young Discoverers (3.5-6 years): Our summer classrooms are set up to
engross children in learning-based activities of their choosing. Every week is
theme-based and has high quality activities, guest visitors, weekly field trips,
and learning centers based around that theme.
All campers enjoy swimming once a week, and an off-campus field trip that is
connected to the session’s theme. In the morning campers explore the
session theme through different activities based in art. In the afternoon
campers rotate to activities in music, drama, storytelling, and movement that
include yoga, dance, tumbling, and water play. Napping is available for
children who need it.
Jr & Sr Explorers (6.5-10 years): Our Jr and Sr Explorers program is for our
maturing adventurists. In this program we offer a combination of cooking,
science, and art filled with great opportunities of exploring creativity in all three
areas. Our art and cooking program has a swimming component and our

curriculum.

Kreative Kangaroos (Unit K - 4 year olds): To promote a nurturing environment, the
activity groups are kept small—typically six children. In Kreative Kangaroos, young
children are introduced to the wonders of summer camp. The camp day is a creative
mix of indoor and outdoor activities and a balance of free choice and structured time.
Junior Camp (Unit A-K; Unit B-1st grade; Unit C-2nd grade)): Activities are chosen on
a daily basis - some days campers choose the activities and on other days,
counselors choose to ensure campers expand their interests. The activities are
developmentally appropriate and, at times, may be generated from the campers’
suggestions, interests, and experiences. In our relaxed environment, junior campers
delight in having the freedom to pursue a special interest, as well as the opportunity
to develop a new one. The highlight of the summer for each unit is their Special Day
when the activities revolve around a particular theme and Units B & C even stay late
on campus.
Senior Camp (Units D-H-3rd -7th grades) : A unique summer adventure. Senior
campers benefit from a tremendous range of activity choices. They appreciate the
opportunity to design their own schedules based on their particular interests. After
visiting the subject choices and learning about what is planned, campers then choose
up to four activities, depending on the unit, to specialize in for each three-week
session. There are novice- to advance-level classes available and some activities
may require a double period. At least ten different activities are offered for each of
the two Afternoon Workshop periods. These activities change daily and are chosen
by the camper at the end of the previous day. Ultimate Frisbee, cooking and baking
projects, basketball, world games, creek walks, and friendship bracelets are some of
the fun afternoon workshop classes. Sportsis a workshop choice every day and
swimming is available twice a week. A marvelous selection of day trips and
overnights will further stimulate senior campers for an enriching summer experience.
Campers in Units G and H take a weekly field trip. Miniature golf, tubing, and bowling
are some of the day trip adventures campers enjoyed last summer.
The overnight is optional. Any camper not going on an overnight will participate in
their regularly scheduled activities at Camp.

Description
Flight Academy (1st-6th grade): as a Mad Science flight cadet in training, you
will discover how airplanes fly. Test your airplane’s performance in a wind tunnel.
Build your own kite, stunt plane and model rocket. Ride the air on a Hovercraft.
Discover how hot air balloons, blimps and parachutes work.
Science in Motion (1st-6th grade): discover how things move with science. Take
apart pellets to see what an owl cannot digest! Join a team of camper engineers
and build bridges, domes, cubes, and pyramids. Assemble and control pulleys,
levers, catapults, and simple machines. Make you own sidewalk chalk, crystal
gardens, and chromatography-dyed T-shirt!
Secret Agent Lab (1st-6th grade): Suspects! Schematics! and Sleuths! Connect
the dots using science to help solve a crime in this hands-on investigation of the
science of sleuthing. Uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and
analysis and fingerprinting detection. Enhance you recall and observation skills and
learn how to use spy equipment.
Earth Space and Beyond (1st– 6th grade): Explore space, nature, secret codes,
and sports. How much better can it get? You’ll discover how to send secret
messages to your friends. Get a taste for space as you become a young astronaut.
Investigate the Earth and nature. The sun, moon and the stars are only a few of the
things that must be dealt with on this Mad Science mission!
Red Hot Robots-FULL day only (2nd-6th grade): Join Mad Science and our
Radical Robots for a scientific journey through circuitry and sensors. Explore
several different types of robots….robots that follow lines and sounds, robotic arms
like the ones you see in the big factories on TV (well, smaller than that, but you get
the picture). You will even play tag with robots that you control! Complete the camp
by building your own robot to take home!
Crime Scene and Chemistry (1st-6th grade): Mad Science introduces you to life
in the form of cells and organs and we even use our knowledge of our bodies to
help solve a crime! Discover the secrets behind batteries and design marshmallow
molecules! Conduct electricity and power a Mad Science whirligig. Experience
blood pumping through the heart and air moving through the lungs. Use ooeygooey ingredients to build a model cell & use your own traits to decode & decipher
your DNA.
3,2,1 Blast Off-FULL day only (2nd-6th grade): This action-packed week will focus
solely on rockets and the physics of rocket flight. After learning the model rocket
safety code, campers will build a number of different rockets and participate in the
launching, mission control, propulsion, and finally recovery of the rockets they
build. Campers will be divided into three groups: altitude trackers, launch
preparation, and launchers. Every camper will have an opportunity to try all three.

Brain Camp helps students in pre-kindergarten through grade 6 keep the
academic edge they gained during the school year. Morning classroom
instruction reinforces essential learning skills in math, reading, writing and
science. In the afternoon, fun and learning combine with our exciting roster of
hands-on recreational activities—from edible art to robotics to website design.
Intensive programs in reading and math enable Lower and Middle School
students to step up their skills. Designed for students poised on the edge of new
stages in learning, the morning classes offer low student-teacher ratios and
individualized instruction. Pre-testing and post-testing highlight areas where
students need extra attention and help make the difference in reaching their
goals. New in 2015: Building and Fostering Friendships (BFFs).
Wonder Kids! invites fun-loving students entering kindergarten through grade 8
to explore seven weeks of adventure science. Curious students jump into
different action-packed projects each week, exploring such diverse subjects as
movie-making, 3D world-building and the science of magic. Museum-quality
teaching tools, camp traditions and theme dress-up days add to the excitement.
Team-building activities, water games, art, computers and cooking concoctions
promise new creations every day.
Students will sharpen their creative skills in the Specialty Programs. Whether
jewelry making or photography, the intensive workshops offer personalized
instruction and plenty of hands-on experience. All programs provide students
with valuable team-building and leadership skills. Half credit courses available.
Students entering grades 7 through 12 sharpen the skills needed to succeed in
high school and beyond in Summer Scholars. Small classes target subject
areas—from math to foreign language to literature—with content designed
specifically for college preparation. Students can also gain valuable leadership
and work experience through our Counselor-in-Training program. Credit
courses available.

Description
This camp is the perfect opportunity for your child to learn about
horses, develop horsemanship and riding skills, make new friends
and have fun! This program includes many different activities
including riding two times every day, as well as learning
opportunities covering topics such as equine behavior, equipment
and veterinary care, groom and feeling, anatomy, and horse
ownership. Creative time in the afternoons offers campers a cooldown break on warm summer afternoons in the air-conditioned
Camp headquarters.
A wide variety of topics are taught combining generous riding time
with demonstrations, videos and hands on experience in horse
management.
The camp is an excellent way for beginners to get to know horses
offering "hands on" experience with grooming and handling
sessions as well as daily riding lessons. For experienced riders, the
continuity of daily lessons and the increased individual attention
helps children progress even faster than in weekly horseback riding
lessons.
Our Summer Camp gives children all of these! We provide the fun,
safe, and mind-expanding activities that kids love, led by a trained
adult staff of Montessori teachers and assistants. This Summer,
campers will "Discover America!" with outdoor adventures, games,
lessons, science projects, arts and crafts, stories, and music.
Each week, campers will concentrate on a different theme to learn
many things about America, such as:
Plants and animals - animals in our backyard, native plants, where
food comes from;
Climate and weather - clouds, forecasting the weather, the power
of the wind, the role of the sun and the moon;
Geography - rocks and soil, mountains, lakes and rivers, the states,
landmarks;
Sports - throwing, catching, kicking, teamwork, sportsmanship; and;
History - colonial America, Native Americans, and even dinosaurs!

great fun, but it also offers much more. We inspire creativity, exercise
imaginations, and promote artistic risk-taking while developing critical-thinking,
collaboration, and personal confidence. Students gain confidence and the
ability to access their imaginations and articulate their ideas. Students are
divided into companies based upon age and skill level for classes taught by
working artists who can be seen on stages throughout the DC area. At the end
of the week, all the classes come together as one ensemble to share
discoveries and perform. 2015 weekly subjects: Improve; Musical Theatre;

Description
Camp Ramayana (The Epic in Dance and Drama): a month-long
summer camp for children aged 5 to 12. The Ramayana is a 2000year old epic, deeply rooted in the culture and identity of South and
Southeast Asians. Like all great epic tales, it is a vast, complex story
that captures the imagination of adults and children alike.
The Sutradhar Institute’s approach is somewhat unique in that
campers are introduced to the Ramayana through story-telling, martial
arts, yoga, mask-making, Sanskrit (the language of the epic), poetry,
rangoli (floor painting) and creative writing--thus appealing to all
children’s love of stories and story-telling.
Email: [email protected]
The camp has been operating for nearly 20 years, with many children
returning year after year, first attending as junior campers and then
later as camp counselors.
Camp Kuchipudi: For those interested in immersing themselves in
dance, Camp Kuchipudi deeply explores the south Indian classical
dance style of Kuchipudi. Beginners are welcome. Although it is
structured much like Camp Ramayana, much more emphasis is
placed on dance technique and choreography.
Activities include yoga, martial arts, dance technique make up design,
Kuchipudi repertoire, and dance ethnography.

Description
Young Artist Program (5-6 years) nurtures the budding talents of our littlest students
with age appropriate visual art projects in an assortment of media. This program also
includes movement games, music and literature.
Artistic Adventures (7-12 years) promotes creativity as children experience an
assortment of visual art media and are exposed to gallery exhibitions. Sessions
include: Ceramics; Mixed Media; Glass; Mosaic; Painting & Drawing; and Wood.
Artistic Quest (age 7-12) promotes creativity as children experience an assortment of
visual art media and are exposed to gallery exhibitions in just one week. Campers will
be rotate throughout the day between different media.
Dragon Day Camp (Pre-K-2nd grade) - designed to keep your child active and
learning all day long. Campers will participate in many activities, including sports, art,
music & movement, nature, technology, library, and drama. To add to the fun, Pre-K
and K campers will participate in water play every day, while 1st and 2nd grade
campers will swim twice a week at the Bethesda Pool (excluding Week 1). And
everyone will have fun on the water slide!
Dragon Quest Day Camp (1st-3rd grade): an exciting alternative where campers can
try a little bit of everything. Every day will bring a fresh and exciting choice of activities.
Each morning campers will be able to choose from a list of options for their morning
activity and afternoon activity. If your camper likes to mix-it-up, they can. If they find
something they love, they can stick with it. On any given day, options may include
sports, swimming, technology, science, art, cooking, dance, games, music, and much
more! Swimming will be offered nearly every day!
Choose Your Own Adventure (3rd–8th grade) - now is your child’s chance to design
their own camp! Campers can choose their activities based on their own interests, and
those interests can change week by week. Our wide variety of activities allows
campers to try many different things throughout the summer, giving them a wellrounded summer camp experience. Campers will select two activities, one for the
morning and one for the afternoon, for each week that they attend camp.
Specialty Camps (K-8th grade) - structured to ensure that campers have a fun,
exciting, and challenging experience. Each one week, camp consists of a full day of
activities that focus on a specific content area, allowing campers to become immersed
in a subject that they are truly passionate about.
