1859 Balloon Voyage. | Presented by
Step into 1859 Lafayette, Ind., and experience the story of aeronaut John
Wise’s first airmail flight in the U.S. Float more than 350 feet into the air
in a tethered helium–filled balloon (weather dependent, additional fee)
and experience early aviation firsthand.
NEW! William Conner House. Explore a treasured piece of Indiana
history with a visit to William Conner House, built in 1823 and newly
restored for Indiana’s Bicentennial. Join the Conner family on their journey
through Indiana’s early years in this playfully interactive house, where
hands-on activities and materials tell stories about life in 1825. Then,
stroll through the nearby heirloom gardens and visit the Loom House.
Animal Encounters. Get up close and interact with your favorite farm
friends! Ask our animal specialists about our historical breeds of
livestock, how our animals are cared for year-round on our grounds, and
how Conner Prairie plays an important role in preserving them.
Lenape Indian Camp. Explore the life, culture and relationship between
the Lenape Indians and American fur traders in the year 1816 when
Indiana became a state. Negotiate a deal at the Trading Post, throw a
tomahawk, and learn skills like tanning hides and firing a flintlock rifle.
1836 Prairietown. Step back in time to a bustling pioneer town where
the people, animals, objects, buildings and daily routines are just as they
were in the 19th century. Pick up an Adventure Guide or Achievement
Card at the Outfitter’s Cart and become a traveler, kitchen helper or
housekeeper. Help residents with chores and earn ‘coin’ to spend at
Mr. Whitaker’s store. There is plenty for your entire family to see and do!
1863 Civil War Journey: Raid on Indiana. Enter the southern Indiana
town of Dupont following a raid by Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan
and his cavalry. Experience life on the northern homefront and meet its
citizens before deciding if you would enlist to defend your hometown.
Along the way, take in theatrical presentations that use audio, visual and
special effects technology to put you into the middle of the raid. The River
Crossing Play Area is open Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Create.Connect. Venture indoors and play with wind while trying to
keep an aircraft aloft. Emulate industrious Hoosiers of the 1950s by
designing your own invention in the patent office. Challenge yourself by
putting wind to work by building a real windmill. Discover how all these
science, technology, engineering and math feats have a place in Indiana
history.
Supported by
NEW! Treetop Outpost. A four-story whimsical treehouse sits at the
center of this new experience area, inviting you to climb to the top and
take in the view! Inside you’ll find a knot tying station, a reading room
loaded with fun nature books, an investigation station and more. Around
its base you’ll find exciting activity areas. Dig into the sand and uncover
artifacts to help make sense of the past. Build something with your own
hands using bamboo poles, wood blocks and fabric. Create art with forest
colors, textures and shapes. And, add to the forest sounds around you by
playing musical instruments. Stop by Treetop Workshop and take an
Adventure Backpack with you on the Nature Walk. You’ll have all the
tools you need to take a closer look at beautiful birds or intriguing insects
along the way.
Discovery Station & Craft Corner. Children ages 8 and younger are in
charge at Discovery Station, with opportunities to play, explore and even
build their very own hideaways. Climb up a tree-like structure, read a
book inside the book hive, pretend to be a farmer or storekeeper, listen to
a story, or dress up as a critter. Toddlers and crawlers have a tot friendly
space just for them. In Craft Corner activities change monthly and young
artists can experiment with a variety of materials to create awesome art
and cool crafts.
