Connecting with the
Local Audience
Effectively targeting the local audience
is a challenge that KVEW TV has
mastered through a creative combination
of TV advertising spots, specialty
programming, and the Web.
“We are here to provide creative
solutions to clients’ marketing challenges
thru KVEW TV, KVEWTV.com or My
Network TV,” explains General Manager
Brian Paul. “We will customize a plan
for them to get the best results.”
KVEW TV along with My Network
TV serves Tri-Cities,Walla Walla, and
surrounding areas in Oregon, providing
ABC network programming.
KVEW TV combines award winning ABC
programs, Good Morning America, Oprah
Winfrey, ABC World News, plus smash hits
Dancing With The Stars, Grey’s Anatomy,
and Desperate Housewives with our unique
regional programs, produced locally, Good
Morning Northwest, Northwest Journeys, and
School Scene, to produce strong TV ratings.
“We have the only local news at 6:30 p.m.
with Julie Stevens and Kevin Uretsky,” Paul
says. “Our purpose is to provide our viewing

Roots Go Way Back
Known collectively as the Morgan
Murphy stations, the business is locally
owned by Elizabeth Murphy Burns
who has run the company for the
past 39 years; her son, Brian Burns,
was named COO in July of 2009.
KVEW TV first began broadcasting in
October 1970 . In addition to KVEW,
the Murphy family owns KXLY TV
in Spokane and KAPP TV in Yakima.
The combined resources of these three
stations help provide unique television
service to Eastern Washington.
The Murphy family also has a long history
of newspaper publishing in the Wisconsin/
Minnesota region. Elizabeth and John are
the grandchildren of John T. Murphy, who
founded the Superior Telegram in 1890.
Their father, Morgan Murphy, developed
the newspaper publishing business
and their Morgan Murphy stations.
Meeting the Challenge
Paul is proud of how their 40-person team has
risen to meet the challenge of the changing
face of news, and has successfully responded
to the evolving needs of their viewers.
“We currently have a Good Morning
Northwest Facebook page and KVEW news
has its own Twitter updates posted on news
stories. We also do e-mail updates on school
closures and breaking weather news. Our
website, KVEWTV.com, has a continuous
