Children aged 3-6 years and under Children 6 years of age and under must be accompanied in the water by a caregiver who is 14 years of age or older and responsible for their direct supervision. A caregiver may provide direct supervision for up to a maximum of 2 children. Children between 3-6 years of age will be issued a purple wristband at the admissions desk. If they successfully complete the swim test, they will be given a green wristband by the lifeguard on deck. This will allow them to go in the deep end and down the slide, with their caregiver under direct supervision at all times in the pool. Children 7 to 10 years of age Upon arrival, all children aged 7 to 10 years will be issued either: 1) a red wristband, if the child’s parent/guardian will not be entering the water (the child’s parent/guardian must still remain in the facility) or 2) a yellow wristband, if the child’s parent/guardian will be coming into the pool with the child. Children with a red wristband must take a facility swim test to determine if they can stay in the pool by themselves. Upon entering the pool deck, they must report to the lifeguard on deck for the swim test. If they are successful, they will be given a green wristband. If the child does not pass the swim test, they must return to the front admissions desk to receive a yellow wristband, and their caregiver must accompany them into the pool and provide direct supervision. Children under the age of 11 who have not passed the swim test must be accompanied by a caregiver who is 14 years of age or older at all times in the pool. Children under the age of 11 who have passed the swim test may swim unaccompanied, but their caregiver must remain within the facility at all times. WATERFIT CODES BC Boot camp (with water belt) (advanced class) D Deep Water (with water belt) If the swim test is not successfully completed, a green wristband will NOT be issued, and the child will be required to remain under direct supervision of their caregiver while in the pool. Direct supervision is defined as being within arm’s reach in the water and able to render immediate assistance at all times. Children may attempt the swim test ONLY ONCE during a scheduled swim time. NON SWIMMERS Children under 11 years of age who are non and/or weak swimmers MUST be accompanied in the water by a caregiver who is 14 years of age or older and responsible for their direct supervision. Non swimming children aged 7-10: maximum ratio of 3 children for each caregiver. Non swimming children aged 6 and under: maximum ratio of 2 children for each caregiver. www.waterloo.ca/swim SHE Shallow Water with Equipment (intermediate class) DE Deep Water with Equipment (with water belt) GJ Gentle Joints (in swirlpool) KB Kick Boxing (water approximately 4 ft deep) T Tethered (using water belts & bungee cord) (advanced class) WW Water Walking (water approximately 4 ft deep) Z Zumba (water approximately 4 ft deep) (advanced class) RF Run Fit (with water belt) Equipment required for classes MUST be worn/used throughout the class.
