In order to extinguish, they displace part of the oxygen in the air at the source of the fire – enough to abruptly extinguish the fire. We go the extra mile … for outstripping other fire protection systems flow rate limitation unit exhaust flap exhaust air filter circulating air flap coarse filter A fire-extinguishing, low-oxygen concentration is dangerous to people. Therefore it is necessary to regulate the design, installation and operation of these systems with norms and other standards. These standard systems with gaseous extinguishing agents cover most possible fields of application. Argotec CST (Controlled Suppression Technology) with argon or nitrogen extends these standards to new fire protection concepts for special requirements. Technical reasons that cause a planned fire-protection plan using gaseous extinguishing agents to fail because the standard system available cannot cover an existing risk, for example, are no longer a problem. Argotec CST fire extinguishing systems are systems designed with innovative technology based on proven and tested components and design methods. They can be distinguished from standard inert gas fire extinguishing systems by the way in which controlled doses of the corresponding extinguishing agent – argon or nitrogen – are applied in various ways in the protected area. supply air inlet air flap air preparation - ventilator - pre-filter - dryer / moistener - cooling / heating - secondary filter pressure reducer pressure reducer fire detector concentration analysis fire detection and extinguishing control panel manual release oxygen sensor first volume second volume Argotec® cylinder battery selector valve fire detector oxygen sensor CST = Controlled Suppression Technology fire detection and extinguishing control panel production supply SAFE GAS EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS INERT GAS EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS in demanding situations The 3 typical Argotec CST fire extinguishing systems 왘 Flow rate-controlled Argotec CST fire extinguishing system The flow rate-controlled extinguishing agent supply is based on dosed quantity control, so that the extinguishing agent is applied in predetermined quantities and intervals in the protected room. 왘 Concentration-controlled Argotec CST fire extinguishing system The concentration-controlled extinguishing agent supply is based on oxygen-led dosing of the preset volume of extinguishing agent, whereby the extinguishing agent is applied at controlled intervals to the protected room, dependent on the preset level of residual oxygen. 왘 Demand-controlled Argotec CST fire extinguishing system The demand-controlled extinguishing agent supply is based on effective use of an onsite inert gas production supply, whereby the available extinguishing agent is constantly applied to the protected room up to the preset residual oxygen level. Fire protection for laboratories and clean rooms Medical, chemistry and biology laboratories are generally clean rooms and are often characterised by the fact that they are operated in defined environments, where certain parameters such as humidity, temperature and pressure are exactly regulated. Precision-controlled low-pressure ventilation thus prevents an exchange of air with the environment and avoids hazardous material from being released into the atmosphere. For this reason, when fire breaks out and an automatic gas extinguishing system is activated, the defined low pressure must be guaranteed. The advantage of gaseous extinguishing agents cannot be used with standard inert gas fire extinguishing systems because these rooms are naturally sealed off from the environment and are as airtight as possible. Standard gas extinguishing systems require an opening to the outside in order to channel off the pressure created by the flooding. However hazardous materials can also escape out into the atmosphere through these pressure relief openings. The Argotec CST flow rate-controlled fire extinguishing system offers dosed extinguishing by limiting flow rate and no additional pressure relief is required. This makes safe and residue-free fire protection possible even for laboratories with low-pressure specifications. OPERATION day and night Fire protection for occupied spaces where uninterrupted operations must be guaranteed. Standard inert gas fire extinguishing systems apply the entire quantity of extinguishing agent to the protected area in one interval within the maximum admissible flooding time. The flooding process can no longer be influenced after it has been started by a control pulse. Generally in this situation, the initial extinguishing agent concentration is higher and the resultant oxygen concentration is lower than is required for safe extinguishing. Therefore personal protection and efficient use of the extinguishing agent are not optimised. In contrast to standard fire extinguishing systems, the demand-controlled Argotec CST fire extinguishing system doesn’t require a seperate extinguishing agent supply. It uses an existing production supply of argon or nitrogen usually at 20 to 30 bars. When fire breaks out, a demand-controlled, constant and uninterrupted preset concentration of extinguishing agent is built up in the protected area and, once reached, it is maintained for a considerable length of time. Joint use of an onsite inert gas supply for production and fire extinguishing purposes considerably reduces installation and operating costs as well as the size of the installation space required. After the first flooding interval, the extinguishing agent is applied to the protected area in further extinguishing intervals. Thus the extinguishing agent concentration is applied and retained in exact doses at the required level. In addition, dosed application offers very long hold times of an extinguishing concentration, enabling, for example, uninterrupted operation of IT and EDP systems.
