“Santa has a problem – he’s over budget by a million dollars.
The only way his accountant can think of to come up with a
million dollars is to win it on Survival. To increase the odds of
winning, Rudolph becomes a contestant as well. Who will out
stuff, out throw, out decorate and become the Ultimate Survivor?

Season’s greetings to Lafleche district and Lightning families! Our school is bustling with
Christmas activities, the creation of decorations and eating yummy snacks.
Our first week in December began with a hot beef on a bun lunch served by the School
Community Council. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped prepare, serve and clean up.
I wish we could have a meal like this every day!
Prek to Grade 8 students are busy preparing for the annual Lafleche Lion’s Carol Festival which
is scheduled for Thursday, December 10. We would like to thank the Lafleche Lion’s for hosting
this event as well as the numerous events and activities they do to support our school and
community throughout the year. Your volunteerism is very much appreciated.
We would like to invite parents/guardians, grandparents and community members to our
annual LCS Elementary Christmas concert. The concert will be held on Thursday, December 17
at 7:00 in the school gymnasium. All the best to students and staff who are preparing for this
exciting event! The Christmas concert is an opportunity for students to shine in the areas of
drama, music and dance. I applaud the staff and students for their efforts. Thank you in
advance to the staff for their hard work and practice to bring all the details of the concert
together. We hope family and community are able to join us to help celebrate this success.
On November 30, Mr. Dominique Liboiron visited LCS to give a presentation to the K-12 students
about his canoe adventure from Eastend to New Orleans; a total of 5232 km in 8 months!
Dominique’s goal was to spread his uncle’s ashes in the city his uncle loved. Dominique’s uncle,
his hero, was from Gravelbourg and died at a young age. In Dominique’s presentation, he
shared the experiences he had along his journey; overcoming inclement weather, isolation,
arduous portages, hostile people and many other obstacles. Dominique’s stories were very
entertaining! Dominique not only shared his adventure; he also gave students tips on how to
deal with fear and how to set clear goals. Students enjoyed Dominique’s humorous stories and
pictures. To find out more about Dominique’s journey, go to www.canoetoneworleans.com.
Our first family Christmas Movie Night was held on Thursday, December 3. This was a great
success and a wonderful way to start the Christmas season! The concession goodies were
delish! Thank you to Ms. Pfeifer for spearheading this event and cheers to all the staff members
who organized, prepared goodies and worked at the event. I look forward to more family
movie nights in the future.
Our school and community has been plagued with a number of flu viruses! Tis the season! Bah
hum bugs!! Please help by encouraging your child(ren) to wash their hands often! We will do
our part to sanitize and disinfect as much and as often as possible. Please inform the school or
your child’s homeroom teacher whenever your child will be absent.
As the 2015 year comes to an end, our LCS family would like to wish everyone a very Merry
Christmas and all the best in 2016.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN
The Pre-Kindergarten class has been busy
preparing for the Lion’s Carol Festival and
the Christmas Concert. They will be
performing one song at each event with
the Kindergarten students. We would like to
say, “thank you” to all the families who
participated in the Family Movie Night.
Everyone seemed to enjoy decorating
gingerbread men, making icicles, Christmas
trees and lights. The hot chocolate buffet
was a hit too! A huge thank you to Ms.
Pfeifer for organizing the movies and treats
for the event. Throughout the next couple of
weeks we will be exploring fun activities
leading into the Christmas holidays. We
hope to see everyone at the Lion’s Carol
festival and the Christmas Concert! Happy
Holidays!
Prekindergarten Class, Mrs. Cornet, Mrs. Ellis
KINDERGARTEN
The Kindergarten class is extremely excited
about the Christmas activities planned for
the month. Every day starts off with “I spy”,
where the students search for our classroom
elf “Willy”. Unfortunately, on Monday Willy
was sick, but we hope he still has his magic
to return again. In Math, we are continuing
with the number strand unit (numbers 0-5).
In ELA, we are working on letter sounds,
producing rhymes, and writing and
representing. This week, we will be making
our letters to Santa! In PE, Mrs. Bouffard has
begun to take the class skating. I hear the
students are doing awesome! Thanks to all
the volunteers who helped tie skates.
Throughout the next couple of weeks, we
will be participating in the SRC Spirit Week
activities. Please refer to the letter that was
sent home last week or Remind 101.
Tomorrow night we will be singing a song at
the Lion’s Carol Festival and next Thursday
we will be singing another song in the LCS
Christmas Concert. We hope to see
everyone there! Have a great holiday
season!

school emails and documents like Student Career News at leisure. Thanks for the tip, Sheldon!
 The University of Regina (URFuture) and the University of Saskatchewan (iUsask) have apps that
you can download for free. These apps provide you lots of useful information like admissions
information, upcoming events, maps, directories, announcements, etc. You can even
personalize them to your own class and final exam schedules.
3. Encounters with Canada is Canada’s largest youth forum and provides a once in a lifetime
experience. Participants (age 14-17) tour Ottawa and are introduced to Canada's diverse
cultures, heritage, institutions, history, leaders and contemporary issues. Students have a choice of
one of 12 career-themed weeks. Students who attended past sessions rave about this awesome
opportunity.
4. Career Cruising is an internet-based career exploration and planning tool to which our school
division subscribes and anyone can use in assisting students with their career plans. It has a
resume builder, inventories, career profiles, post-secondary and occupational information. If you
want to use it but don’t have a username or password, just email us. Excellent webinars and
training videos are available for teachers, students and parents.
5. The University of Regina’s Accelerated Program is a great opportunity for grade 12 students to
take a university class such as English 100 and Math 110, lessening their course load in their first
year at university. Course delivery can be in one of the regional colleges, online or on-campus.

Wood River Hall New Year’s
Celebration
To Whom It May Concern:
The Wood River Memorial Hall is putting on a family friendly New Year’s Eve party on December 31, 2015.
From 7:30-8:15 will be a magician for the children to enjoy. Starting at 9pm will be a Hypnotist for parents
and older children who are interested in participating. The Hypnotist requires that children not be running
throughout the hall during his time.
We will have crafts, games, movie and snacks set up in the basement of the hall for kids to enjoy. We are
looking for a handful of young energetic teens willing to help keep the kids entertained in the basement of
the hall from 8:30 – 11:45pm. One of the requirements will be that the kids stay in the basement and not be
running back and forth to their parents.
This is a great opportunity to help your community out and indicate on your resume a volunteer opportunity.
If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Chelsea Crooks by text or phone at 306-640-9252 or
at home and leave a message at 306-472-5711. Please inform Chelsea if you are able to help by December
20, 2015 so we can plan accordingly.
Sincerely yours,
Wood River Hall Board Members
