Installation Things to note before installing: • Warning: The VidCAD SQL installation requires a lot of memory to run properly. Shut down all applications and non-essential processes before executing the installation. If you encounter difficulties during installation, contact VidCAD Technical Support at (888) 484-3832, +1 (575) 522-6004 or [email protected], or visit the Support page on our web site (http://www.vidcad.com) to keep updated on current technical issues. • VidCAD SQL may not operate properly if AutoCAD LT or a non compatible version of full AutoCAD is loaded on the same computer. • If you are upgrading from a previous version of VidCAD, we recommend making a full backup of your VidCAD directory including all facilities (projects) and library folder. If you intend to convert your old VidCAD Data to the new VidCAD SQL database, it is imperative that you execute a monthly zip utility. If you need any assistance in completing your backup, please contact VidCAD Technical Support. • If you are currently running a full version of AutoCAD, we recommend you make a backup (export) of your AutoCAD profile prior to installing VidCAD SQL. • If you are upgrading from a previous version of VidCAD, you must uninstall all older versions of VidCAD prior to installing VidCAD SQL. • The following installation instructions are for standard, standalone workstations only. If custom or network instructions are needed, please contact VidCAD Technical Support. VidCAD Installation Instructions (Stand-alone workstation) 1. Connect the VidCAD parallel or USB key to a parallel or USB port on your computer. 2. Insert your VidCAD SQL disk in your drive and the autorun should bring up the installation window you see below. If you do not see the installation window, open the VidCAD SQL installation disk from “My Computer” and select Setup.exe. A VidCAD SQL Setup window displays. 3. There are four steps to installing VidCAD SQL and they are listed on the VidCAD SQL Setup window. Begin with Step one, reviewing these installation instructions in this Getting Started manual. 7 4. After you have reviewed the installation instruction, proceed to step 2 by selecting “Install VidCAD SQL” from the VidCAD SQL Setup window. 5. You will be reminded to make a backup of your previous VidCAD information. If applicable, make your backups, and then select OK. 6. Select “Next” at the VidCAD SQL InstallShield Wizard welcome screen to begin the installation process. 8 7. At the License Agreement window, read the License agreement and select the radio button to accept or not to accept the license agreement. Then select “Next”. 8. In the “Select Key Type” window, select the key type you are using then select Next. 9 9. An “Authorization” window may display. If you have a blue USB key, enter the VidCAD SQL Codes you were provided with the software package and select Next. If you have a black USB key or the keyless system and this window appears, please enter 0’s for all the characters. 10. Complete the dialog and select an install option. Select Next. 10 11. Accept the default destination for a standard installation by selecting “Next.” 12. In the Custom Setup window, leave all default settings and select “Next.” 11 13. At the Ready to Install the Program window, select Back to change setup options – otherwise select “Install” to begin installation of VidCAD SQL. 14. The “Installing VidCAD SQL” window will now appear. This process will take several minutes. 12 15. Select “Finish” completing the VidCAD SQL step of the install process. 16. The VidCAD SQL InstallShield Wizard will now close, leaving the VidCAD SQL Setup window open (refer to image on step 2) and ready to begin the third step, which will install the Microsoft SQL 2005 database and associated tools. 17. Begin the database installation by clicking on the “Install VidCAD SQL Database” text in the VidCAD SQL Setup window. 13 18. Select “Next” at the dbinst - InstallShield Wizard welcome screen to begin the installation process. 19. At the License Agreement window, read the License agreement and select the radio button to accept or not to accept the license agreement. Then select “Next”. 14 20. Select “Next” in the Database Options window to install a VidCAD3 instance on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express. 21. Select “Install” to begin the VidCAD3 instance with SQL Server Express 2005. 15 22. An Extracting Files window will appear, followed by a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup “Installing Prerequisites” window. No input is required during either process. 23. A Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup “Setup Progress” window will appear followed by a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express window. No input is required during either process. 16 24. Select “Next” in the Database Server selection window to choose the default SQL Server that VidCAD will attach to. 25. Select “Install” to begin the final phase of the database installation. 17 26. A “Installing dbinst” window will appear with a status bar. No input is required during either process. 27. At the InstallShield Wizard Completed window, select “Finish” to complete the database installation process. 28. The VidCAD SQL InstallShield Wizard will now close, leaving the VidCAD SQL Setup window open (refer to image on step 2), and ready to begin the fourth step, which will install AutoCAD 2008 OEM. Skip this step if you will be running VidCAD on your own Full AutoCAD License. 18 29. Select “Install AutoCAD 2008 OEM” from the VidCAD SQL Setup window. 30. Enter your four digit OEM code which can be found on your VidCAD codes letter and then select OK. 31. The VidCAD SQL Setup window will now display “Extracting AutoCAD OEM, please wait”. No input is required during this process. 32. The VidCAD OEM Setup window displays. Read the information and select “Next” to continue. 19 33. At the AutoDesk OEM Software License Agreement window, select the country you are in, then select “I Accept” and “Next” to continue with the installation. 34. At the Select Installation Type select “Next” to accept the default Full installation type. 20 35. Select “Next” in the Destination Folder window to accept the default installation path. 36. At the Start Installation window select “Next” to begin the installation. 21 37. An Updating Systems window displays with a progress bar. This process will take several minutes to complete. 38. Complete the VidCAD OEM installation by selecting Finish on the VidCAD OEM Setup window. 39. The VidCAD OEM Setup window will now close, leaving the VidCAD SQL Setup window open (refer to image on step 2). You can now close the VidCAD SQL Setup window. 22 40. To verify VidCAD SQL has installed correctly, you will first need to open the VidCAD Main Menu. Do this by selecting the VidCAD icon on your desktop or by selecting VidCAD SQL from your programs list. 41. The VidCAD Measurement Units window will now open. Select your preferred measurement units and the Title Block Template. 42. After your codes are entered and accepted, a New User window will open. Complete the New User information window then select Edit in the company area. 23 43. Select “New” in the Company Details window. 44. Enter the company information. 24 45. Select “Done” from the company list. 46. Verify the user information and select “OK.” 25 47. In The User Detail window select “Done.” 48. The VidCAD Main Menu will now display. 49. When the install is complete, run the VidCAD conversion (See details at the back of the manual) 3ote: This process does not apply to new users. 26 6. Checking for Updates VidCAD regularly releases updates with enhancements and patches. Information about an update and the link to download it can be found from the VidCAD Main Menu. Sequence: 1. Select “Settings” from the Utilities pull down menu of the VidCAD Main Menu. 2. Select the “Updates” tab from the Settings window. 3. Select “Check For Updates” from the Settings window. 27 4. VidCAD will now compare your version to the latest update available. If there is an update available VidCAD will display a link for you to download the update. If you are using the latest version, VidCAD will display a note that you have the latest version. 5. Prior to downloading an update you can select “View Change Log” to view the changes made with each update. 6. If you experience any difficulty downloading an update please contact VidCAD Technical Support. 3ote: if you experience difficulties with the Check for Updates tool, you may need to modify the firewall settings on your network or local computer. To do this you need to make an application exception in the firewall settings for “vdpmm.exe”. 28 7. Maintaining Backup Files: Overview: You should maintain a backup plan for both your VidCAD SQL Database Files and your main VidCAD folder. Backup plans should also include the Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\VidCAD 3 folder. They should be fully backed up at least weekly. If you have difficulties with files being lost, contact 1-888-4VidTEC (1-888-484-3832) or email [email protected]. Sequence: 1. Determine the best location for storing your VidCAD Backup. Locations may include a network drive, external hard drive, CD or DVD. Just make sure it is somewhere other than the hard drive of the computer you use for your VidCAD operation. 2. Once a backup location is determined, create a windows folder in that location and name it something logical (i.e., “VidCAD Backup January 1 2008”). In this example we will use that exact name for our backup. 3. Use Windows Explore to navigate to C:\VidCAD and copy the entire VidCAD Directory to the backup folder created in the previous step. This step will back up your drawings, templates, and facilities. 4. The next step will require you stop the Microsoft SQL server. Click on Start then Control Panel. 5. From the Control Panel select Administrative Tools. 29 6. From Administrative Tools select Services. 7. From the Services window highlight SQL Server (VidCAD3) then select “Stop” from the left side of the services list. 30 8. Use Windows Explore to navigate to C:\Program Files and locate Microsoft SQL Server. 9. Open the Microsoft SQL Server folder and copy the entire VidCAD3 folder to the backup folder created in step 2. 10. Now you must restart your Microsoft SQL Server by repeating steps 4-6 to access the Services window. 31 11. From the Services window, highlight SQL Server\VidCAD3, then select Start from the left side of the services list. 12. Close the Services window. 13. Your VidCAD Backup is now complete. 32 8. Key Distinctives of VidCAD SQL: VidCAD SQL is based on Microsoft SQL Server (optional) upon for large installations and MSDE (Microsoft Standalone Database Engine) for standalone users and groups of up to four users. SQL database technology is the industry standard for robust, Enterprise-class applications. The key differences are FoxPro DBF files are operating system files and numerous (55 files minimum for VidCAD Library and 1 Facility), whereas SQL database records are in 1 relational file managed by Microsoft SQL Server. Because of the differences in database technology, VidCAD SQL is: True Client-Server: Reduces LAN data traffic Robust: Tackles largest jobs Secure: Protected and managed access Scaleable: Unlimited # of possible users Extensible: Connect to other programs, such as ordering, proposal writers, maintenance logs Replicable: Duplicate libraries and projects across the world Editable: All FlexiBLOCK data is stored in SQL; therefore, you can delete unwanted versions 3-D Blockable: You can add additional 3-D block views (e.g. rack, table, H or V modular) with a couple of mouse clicks In other words, if you are: • Increasing facility size and complexity • • Outgrowing the performance of your standalone or LAN design automation system Coordinating design and documentation between 2 or more engineers regularly • Integrating with remote consultants, users, engineers, installers and maintenance techs • Needing secure, managed access You need VidCAD SQL, and may need ESP Enterprise options, including: Enterprise Library Merge: Bi-directional synchronization between 2 or more VidCAD locations. LM notes all the changes each user makes, with time and date. Remote user logs into VidCAD and clicks LM to replicate new items in both directions. Enterprise Facility Checkin/Checkout Utility: Automated synchronization of drawing and database files. Checkout projects from Master to workstation, locking data and drawings on Master. Checkin reverses process. Key questions Is SQL faster? • In a small facility, .DBF files are faster. LAN and larger facilities cripple .DBFs, but SQL keeps on going and growing. Why is SQL important? • IT managers demand more secure, managed and scaleable SQL. • SQL databases are maintained and backed-up regularly. • Microsoft SQL Server is an Enterprise-class program. 33 9. Key VidCAD Features VidCAD Manages Your System VidCAD data can be created, tracked, maintained, and used to generate custom reports. VidCAD Supports Phantom data is data with drawing characteristics Two Types of Data: only. Real data is data that links drawing Phantom and Real characteristics with a VidCAD database to emulate a real world configuration. VidCAD Settings Provide Flexibility VidCAD settings allow users to automate and speed up the documentation process. VidCAD ReDoIt Simplifies Global Editing The global ReDoIt functions make global changes to multiple files simultaneously (Ultra). Equipment Delete, Equipment Rename, Cable Delete, Cable Renumber, Jack Delete, and Jack Renumber are all ReDoIt functions. The Revert to Phantoms feature returns VidCAD Reverts Transmutated Data transmutated data to its original Phantom design when using a ReDoIt function. to Phantom Data VidCAD Generates Using Path Tools, cable lengths can be automatically generated once the required Cable Lengths information is drawn and linked to the VidCAD Quickly database. Required information includes the diagram drawing(s) of the equipment and cabling, the 3-D drawing(s) housing the furniture and equipment, and an accurate floor plan. 34 10. Getting Started with Terminology Facilities or Projects Usually a number of drawings representing one job that requires interconnecting sources such as sync and routers (for example, an edit room, studio 4, master control). A single facility, which generally consists of multiple drawings, uses a single local database viewer (CDOC) and a SQL database server. Individual facility data is identified in the database by its unique facility ID number which is assigned to all Facilities when created from the VidCAD Main Menu. For example, if you create a facility named master1 on the C drive, VidCAD will create a directory named "master1" and a subdirectory "CDOC" (C:\master1\cdoc). All drawing files (.DWGs) will reside in master1 and all database data will reside in the database server. Phantom Data Data with drawing characteristics only. For example, you can create drawings using VidCAD, AutoCAD, Visio or Paintbrush. This type of data contains drawing characteristics only; there is no link to a database. Real Data Data that contains drawing and database characteristics, i.e., the data is linked to the VidCAD database (i.e., data that has been transmutated). Transmutate The process in VidCAD that converts Phantoms (drawings) into Real data, i.e., data that contains both drawing characteristics and database linkage. Concept Drawings High level drawing files that demonstrate overall design. These drawings do not contain specific information about inputs and outputs. Usually used to prepare overviews for management. Diagram Drawings Diagram drawings specifying equipment, equipment inputs/outputs, signaling, terminals, and cables. 3-D Drawings 3-dimensional drawings displaying equipment and furniture. ReDoIt Features VidCAD features that allow Engineer level users to make global changes to multiple files simultaneously. Equipment Delete, Equipment Rename, Cable Delete, Cable Renumber, Jack Delete, and Jack Renumber are all ReDoIt commands. Note: If you own a copy of Designer with a copy of Engineer, you will have the capability to perform global equipment delete and rename functions. SYSNAME A unique identifier that VidCAD uses to keep track of each equipment or furniture item in a facility. CDOC A database viewing utility specific to one facility. The purpose of the CDOC is to keep track of data specific to your current facility. Data is identified by either SYSNAME or Cable Number. Path Tools A group of tools that allow you to generate cable lengths. Path tools include: Cable Path Create, Cable Tray Create, Path Guide Create, and Path Show/Hide. Room Designer (Sheet Set Manager) VidCAD’s enhanced version of AutoCAD’s Sheet Set Manager. Room Designer automates the creation and organizations of Rooms (sheet sets). Room (Sheet Sets) A group of drawings usually associated with a room. Rooms created using VidCAD Room Designer stores names of associated drawings, automates creating new drawings with correct templates (e.g., My Style Diagram.dwt), inserts Title Page data into each sheet, creates a Table of Contents (TOC), manages Views of other drawings referenced to the Room (such as Sync reference in Edit Room Sheet Set), and plots all the sheets in the Room with just two mouse clicks. Sheet An individual “page” in the Room (Sheet Set) that is defined with its own name Layout (Title block). A Sheet can only be referenced in a Sheet Set. Layout Named Title Block view tab on the bottom of the drawing. This takes you from the Model Space view to the Title Block view. 35 11.VidCAD Workflow Each stage in VidCAD allows you to complete a corresponding task with a minimum of effort. When working in VidCAD, your drawing data is created either in Phantom mode or Real mode (i.e., without database linkage or with database linkage, respectively). In the initial design phase of your project, you will want to create drawings in the Phantom mode so you can easily and quickly make changes to your drawings. However, you can create your drawings directly in Real mode, later reverting to Phantom to use as template files. The transmutation process creates the database links that you can use for subsequent report generation, floor plan design, and drawing maintenance. Refer to the workflow. Create a Room Sheet Set for each room. Sheet Sets have the settings for each type of drawing (Concept, Diagram, Rack/Architectural) Launch the Room Sheet Set from the VidCAD Main Menu. This creates the TOC drawing and opens the Sheet Set in VidCAD. Fill out the Facility Properties (e.g., Facility name, address, phone and Project name and number). These Title Block properties are automatically updated in all sheets in the Facility Sheet Set. Create the first drawing (Concept, Diagram or Rack) from the Sheet Set Manager. It will automatically update Title Block properties. We will assume it is a Diagram at this point. Create Real equipment with specific inputs and outputs. Real equipment is automatically linked to the Facility Equipment database table. Create a Rack drawing from the Sheet Set Manager. Create the Racks and Consoles. Recall equipment into the racks. Create detailed Equipment lists in the VidCAD Reporter so you can order the equipment, racks and consoles. Return to the Diagram and Create Phantom cables between the equipment. Transmutate the cables. Create an Architectural drawing that references the Floor Plan from the architect. Reference the Racks and Consoles into the Architectural drawing. Return to the Architectural drawing and create planned Cable Trays and Conduits. Quickly generate cable lengths. Create Cable Cutlists, Cable and Connector BOM’s and labels in the VidCAD Reporter. Order cables and connectors. Check for Equipment and Cable Errors, and fix the errors. Most errors come from using AutoCAD commands instead of VidCAD commands to make changes in the drawings that are not referenced in the database. Plot the drawings to paper or DWF e-Plots. Install the Facility On-Time and On-Budget. 12. Drawings Overview You can create three types of drawings in VidCAD: Concept, Cable Diagram, and 3-D. Concept drawings are high-level drawing files that demonstrate overall design. Cable Diagram drawings specify equipment, equipment inputs/outputs, signaling, terminals, and cable information. Rack or 3-D drawings display equipment and furniture layouts. All Drawings can be created using VidCAD Room Designer. Concept Drawings Concept drawings are high-level drawing files that demonstrate overall design. These drawings do not contain specific information about inputs and outputs. Concept drawings are usually used to prepare overviews for management or customers. Depending on your method of use, equipment placed in Concept drawings can be either phantom or real data, but because there is no input or output information on blocks created in concept drawings, cable information is only phantom. Specifically, VidCAD uses AutoCAD polylines in Concept drawings to show signal flow. 3ote: Concept drawings do not display specific inputs and outputs. Use Diagram drawings to show input and output information. 37 Cable Diagram Drawings Cable Diagram drawings specify equipment, equipment inputs/outputs, signaling, terminals, and cable information. You will notice in the example that there is a much greater degree of detail than in a concept, and all of the information can be connected to the database. 3-D or Rack Drawings Rack or 3-D drawings display equipment and furniture layout. 38 13. A facility usually refers to the documentation (drawings and database files) for systems in a single geographic location. Caution! Do not nest a second facility in a subfolder of an existing facility. Each facility should be created totally independent of other facilities (e.g., c:\vidcad\projects\facility1, c:\vidcad\projects\facility2). Do not create a facility in your VidCAD folder. Sequence 1. Select VidCAD Main Menu from the Start>Programs>VidCAD pulldown menu or your desktop icon. A VidCAD Main Menu displays. 40 2. Select the 1ew Facility button. 3. In the Create New Facility window, type in the name and contact information of your new facility and select Ok. 3ote: Although you may be tempted to skip through this step with minimal information entry, it is an important step in the VidCAD Room Designer process. Information for your facility added in these areas will be used to propagate your title blocks and customer information in other areas automatically. 3ote: The default Location path should be c:\VidCAD\Projects\[3ame of your facility]. 4. Your facility is now created and is displayed on the VidCAD Main Menu. 41 Exercise 2: Creating a Room using VidCAD Room Designer Putting together a drawing set is a major part of most design projects. VidCAD Room Designer is an enhanced and automated version of AutoCAD Sheet Set Manager which is used to organize multiple drawing files into a single Room or Sheet Set. This automated process of managing drawing sets allows you to easily create title sheets, table of contents, manage title blocks, and also allows you to quickly prepare your drawing sets for distribution and plotting. The Rooms (Sheet Sets) created using VidCAD Room Designer will use highly customized VidCAD Templates for the creation of each sheet, or drawing. Drawing Template (.DWT) files can be customized to include your company logo, preferred layout size, and other design settings. Sequence 1. 42 Highlight your new facility, change the Facility Option radio button to “Room View”, then select “New Room.” 2. In the New Room dialog box enter your facility’s room information and description 3. Select the flyout arrow on the right side of the Template field to choose a sheet set style (Imperial Style 1 is default). 3ote: the size of page is determined by the default on the .DST you select. You can modify the default VidCAD .DST files and select any size layout sheet. 4. Select OK to complete your New Room creation and return to the VidCAD Main Menu. If the Room View radio button is selected in the Facility Options area of the VidCAD Main Menu, you will see the room you created under the Facility name. 43 5. Highlight the Room you just created (.dst file) and click Start. 6. A vidc_data drawing is opened with a new sheet set manager. 44 7. In the sheet set, double click on Table of Contents under the General subset. When the drawing is loaded, select save to save the drawing. 8. The Table of Contents diagram drawing is opened with the name of the sheet set (Room 1) as the plotting tab name and a drawing with the same name is listed on the main menu. 9. You are now ready to begin creating drawings for this Room, however, you may choose to add additional Subsets prior to beginning individual sheet (drawing) creation. 45 Additional 1otes about using VidCAD Room Designer VidCAD Room Designer has a default set of subsets, each of which has related templates (Concept, Diagram, Architectural, etc.). If you want to add new subsets, you can easily do this in the Room (Sheet Set) or in the Sheet Set Template (.DST) file. The following steps will guide you through creating additional subsets. 10. From the VidCAD Room Designer (Sheet Set Manager), right click on the Diagram subset and select “New Subset”. 11. In the Subset Properties enter Audio as the Subset name then select OK. 46 12. Repeat Steps 11 and 12 and create a subset named Video. When you have completed this process, your Room should look like the image below. 13. Subsets can also be removed from the Room. Right Click on the Video Subset and select “Remove Subset”. Repeat the process for the Audio subset. Your Room (Sheet Set) should now appear with its default subsets. Optional Room Designer Subset configurations VidCAD default room management style has users create a Room (sheet set) for each physical room in a facility. Each Room would have similar subsets. You can easily select the Room from the VidCAD Main Menu using the Room View option. 47 More experienced users that are familiar with modifying and selecting drawing template (DWT) files can also choose to create a single Sheet Set for the entire facility with Rooms as Subsets. See the images below for an example of that option. 48 Exercise 3: Defining your drawing space Prior to creating equipment for your drawing, you should set up your drawing to accommodate subsequent paper plots. You do this by creating a title block and defining your work area. Sequence 1. From the Sheet Set Manager of the Drawing you created in Exercise 1, Right-click on the Diagram and select 1ew Sheet... 2. Enter 01 as the File number, and Diagram as the drawing name and select OK. 49 3. A new sheet displays on the sheet set manager. Double click on the sheet “D01 - Diagram”. A drawing opens with the default plotting layout tab and model tab. 4. Click on the Model tab. All of the available defpoint borders appear in the drawing. 50 5. Select Drawing Safe Area Settings from the VidCAD Settings flyout of the VidCAD Toolbar. 3ote: Each Defpoint represents the maximum drawing area for a specific paper size in full size and half size. 6. In the Layer Diagram Controls window, select B 3/64. Then select Ok. 51 52 7. Verify the B size defpoint is the only one remaining in your drawing. 8. Safe drawing area border is now defined. 9. Click the Save button. You are now ready to begin inserting equipment in your drawing. Section 2: Creating a Phantom Drawing Exercise 4: Creating Phantom Equipment This lesson focuses on how to create and place equipment in the Diagram drawing you created in the previous exercises. When this exercise is complete, you should have a drawing that looks like the image below. 1. In your Diagram drawing, select the Equipment Create command from the Equipment flyout of the VidCAD toolbar. 53 2. The Add Equipment Dialog Box Opens. 3. From the Equipment Create window you can search through the equipment library by Manufacturer, Model, or Product name. In this exercise we will place two pieces of equipment in the diagram drawing. Begin this process by entering SONY in the Manufacturer box. 54 4. In this exercise you will draw the block in Phantom Mode. Check the “Phantom Equipment” box to draw equipment in Phantom mode. 5. A list of all Sony equipment will display. You can scroll down and look for the piece needed from your manufacturer, or enter in model information to narrow down the list. For this exercise, enter “DVWA500” in the model box, select revision 8, and select OK. 55 6. The “FlexiBLOCK – Select I/Os to appear in block” window opens and displays all inputs and outputs that were defined as part of this piece of equipment when it was created. 3ote: From the FlexiBLOCK dialog, you can also rearrange I/Os by dragging and dropping them to a new location. If you rearrange I/Os, you will create a new drawing revision for that equipment block. 7. 56 Unlike in a Concept drawing, when you place a piece of equipment in a Diagram drawing, you can chose some, or all of the available inputs and outputs you want to display in your drawing. There are many ways to make your selections. You can select the “All” button and turn on all inputs and outputs. You can also select by signal type or individually by selecting the desired signal in the available I/O display itself. In this exercise, we will select 1 input and three outputs individually as displayed below. After you make your selections, select OK. 8. Use your mouse to move the block to the desired location, then left click to place the block in your drawing. You can place additional equipment blocks with the exact same configuration by left clicking again in a different location or press Esc on your keyboard to end the equipment create command. 9. Repeat Steps 1-7 again, but this time create a Ross Video LTD, CMA8012 distribution amplifier, using the image at the beginning of this exercise to determine the appropriate I/O selection. When you have completed adding this second piece of equipment, your drawing should look like the drawing from the beginning of this exercise and you are now ready for the next exercise, Creating Phantom Cables. 57 Exercise 5: Creating Phantom Cables This exercise will show you how to create Phantom cables between two pieces of equipment. When placing cables, you will be selecting the equipment source and the equipment destination. To ensure that you successfully place a cable, it is important that you select the endpoints of the source and destination I/Os. Sequence 1. From the Diagram drawing you created in Exercise 4, select Cable Create from the VidCAD toolbar. 2. The Cable Create window should now be displayed in the upper left corner of your drawing. Through this window you select the source and destination equipment and the appropriate symbols, such as the feather, J-box, jack, and router. If you are creating a phantom cable only, there is nothing to select from the Cable Create dialog bar as the command is already active. 58 3. Select an I/O from one equipment block as the source for cabling. 3ote: When placing cables, you will want to zoom in to ensure you are selecting the input or output endpoints. 4. Select an I/O from another equipment block as the destination for cabling. The Phantom cable is created. 5. When finished selecting the destination of the cable, your drawing should look like the image below, and you are ready to begin the transmutation process (linking the drawing data into the database). 6. Select the Esc key to exit the command. 59 Exercise 6: Erasing Phantom Data Phantom data is not linked to the database; consequently, you can use AutoCAD Erase to remove Phantom data from a drawing. 3ote: Do not use the AutoCAD Erase command to delete real (transmutated) data. To delete real data, use Cable Delete, Equipment Delete, or Jack Delete. Sequence 1. Select Erase from the Modify menu. 2. Select a crossing window around the data you wish to erase. In this exercise we will draw a left to right window or a crossing window which is defined with two points: a point defining the top, left window origin and a second point defining the bottom, right window origin. 3ote: Drawing a window from right to left will select every item that is completely enclosed by the window. Drawing a left to right crossing window will select every item that it touches even if it is not completely enclosed by the window. 3. Right-click the mouse command to erase the items in the crossing window from the drawing. The selected data erases. 60 Exercise 7: Creating Phantom Rack Furniture This example shows you how to insert racks into a 3-D drawing. Prior to placing furniture, however, you may want to check the units in VidCAD Settings to ensure that you are placing furniture using the appropriate units (English or Metric). Sequence: 1. From the Room Designer (Sheet Set Manager) of the diagram drawing you have been working on, create a new sheet in the Architectural subset and name the sheet “A01 - Racks”. 2. Open “Racks” by double clicking on the sheet from the Room Designer. 3. Select Equipment Create from the Equipment flyout of the VidCAD Toolbar. 4. Check the “Phantom Equipment” box. 5. Type “Winsted” in the Manufacturer field and “86020” in the model field. 61 6. Select the 86020 with the “70Rack26” Product Type from the equipment list. 7. VidCAD will report that PhantomDOCS is active and will prompt “Pick UCS-marker <Previous_ucs>:” 8. Select the UCS icon located in the lower left-hand side of the drawing window. 9. Select an insertion point in the drawing to place the rack and left click to insert your rack. 3ote: All Phantom racks appear in green. When transmutated, or if created in real mode, the racks will appear in brown. 62 10. Select <Enter> to accept the default rotation of “0”. 11. The rack displays in the drawing. VidCAD will again display “Pick UCS-marker <Previous_ucs>”. Press the Esc key to cancel out of the command. 3ote: UCS Markers are one of VidCAD’s tools for working in 3-D and are visible as magenta colored markers in your 3-D rack and other 3-D furniture.. They aid you in selecting the correct surface when inserting furniture and equipment. The “F”, “T”, and “R” markers refer to “Front”, “Top”, and “Rear” orientation, respectively. 12. Your rack now displays with a wire frame view. 3otice the wireframe is still green which tells you this is still a phantom rack. 13. You are now ready to begin Transmutating equipment, cables, and furniture in the drawings you have created. Before you begin the Transmutation process, you may want to save your phantom drawings. The process to save your phantom drawings is covered in the next exercise. 63 Exercise 8: Saving Phantom Drawings By saving a Phantom drawing, you provide the flexibility to reuse it or modify it for similar systems in the current facility or other facilities. When using Save DWG to Phantoms Dir, the drawing is saved to a Phantoms subdirectory located in the current facility directory. Each facility will have its own Phantoms folder. 3ote: You should not save your drawing to a Phantom directory if you have real equipment in it (i.e., equipment that has already been transmutated). Sequence 1. Return to your “D01 – Diagram” drawing and repeat exercises 4 and 5 to create equipment and a cable. 2. Select Save DWG to Phantoms Dir from the VidCAD toolbar. A VidCAD Question dialog displays, indicating that the current drawing will be saved to a Phantoms subdirectory in your project directory. 3. A “Select a New Drawing Name” window appears. Enter a new file name or keep the default name, then click Save. 4. The Phantom drawing is now saved and can be used in this or any other project. 64 Section 3: Transmutation Transmutation is the process in VidCAD that converts Phantoms (drawings) into Real data, i.e., data that contains both drawing characteristics and database linkage. Phantoms are data with drawing characteristics only; there is no link to a database. Real Data contains drawing and database characteristics; the data is linked to the VidCAD database (i.e., data that has been transmutated). About VidCAD Transmutation You can toggle between Phantom Mode and Real Mode for Cables and Equipment in the Phantom Settings window. By default, VidCAD provides a dot-dash linetype when displaying Phantom equipment and a continuous linetype when displaying Real equipment. In a Diagram drawing, you must transmutate equipment before transmutating cables. In a Rack drawing, you should transmutate the furniture before transmutating equipment inside the furniture. Once your equipment or cables are in the database, you use Equipment Delete, Cable Delete or Jack Delete (not AutoCAD Erase) to simultaneously delete data from the drawing and the database. Real data is stored in the project's SQL database tables. In this section, you will transmutate equipment, cables, and furniture. Exercise 9: Transmutating Equipment VidCAD uses SYSNAMEs to identify unique equipment items in the database. When transmutating equipment, the next available SYSNAME is retrieved from the database. You can use this SYSNAME or enter your own. When you have completed this exercise, your drawing should look like the image below. 3ote: The line style changes from dash-dot to continuous line. The line style change is a visual reminder that the equipment item is now in the database and is considered a real equipment item. 1. Open the diagram drawing you originally created in Exercise 3 (D01 Diagram from the VidCAD Room Designer). 65 2. Select “Equipment Settings” from the Equipment flyout of the VidCAD toolbar. 3. From the Diagram Equipment Settings window, select “Ask for System name” and “Edit after create”. Then select Ok. 3ote: These settings may already be selected by default. 4. Select “Phantom Equipment Transmutate” from the VidCAD toolbar. 66 5. Select “All” in the Phantom Transmutate Options window to transmutate all equipment in this drawing. 6. A Select System Name dialog displays with the next available SYSNAME in the database. Select Ok to accept the default SYSNAME (DVTR01). 7. An Edit Equipment dialog displays with information about the current equipment. You may choose to add information in some of these data fields, other fields are automatically propagated when a piece of equipment is placed in a rack. For this exercise, do not enter any information, select Ok. 8. Steps 8 and 9 will repeat for the second piece of equipment in this drawing. After selecting Ok on the final screen, your drawing should look like the image at the beginning of this exercise. 3ote: The line style changes from dash-dot to continuous line. The line style change is a visual reminder that the equipment item is now in the database and is considered a real equipment item. 67 Exercise 10: Transmutating Cables VidCAD uses cable numbers to identify individual cables in the database. When transmutating cables, the next available cable number is retrieved from the database. You can use this default number or enter your own. 3ote: The Select Cable 3umbers dialog displays with the next available cable number if the “Ask for Cable number” option is checked in the Cable Settings dialog. Sequence 1. Continuing with the Diagram drawing used in the previous exercise (D01 - Diagram), select Cable Settings from the Cables flyout of the VidCAD toolbar. 68 2. At the Cable Settings window select “Ask for cable number” and “Edit after create” then select Ok. 3ote: Do not edit any other default cable settings. 3. Select “Phantom Cable Transmutate” from the cables flyout of the VidCAD toolbar. A Phantom Cable Transmutate window displays, and you are prompted to select the phantom cable to transmutate. 3ote: When transmutating jacks, transmutate cables beginning on the left side of the drawing and work to the right and from top to bottom. VidCAD assigns a signal name to each cable as it is converted. This signal name is used for all cables in a given signal path and acts as a thread for the InterCO33ECT program. 69 4. Select the appropriate Cable Type from the Phantom Cable Transmutate window. 5. Select the cable to transmutate. 3ote: You must transmutate the equipment connected to a specific cable before transmutating the cable. 6. Select the appropriate Signal Type then verify the Cable Number. Select Ok. 70 7. Review the information about the current cable, enter data if applicable, and select Ok to exit the dialog. 8. Information about the cable and the specified equipment are now in the database. Your drawing should look like the image at the beginning of this exercise. 71 Exercise 11: Transmutating Furniture The process for transmutating furniture and equipment in a 3-D environment is much the same as in the two-dimensional environment. Sequence 1. Open the 3-D drawing you created in Exercise 7 and select the “Equipment Settings” command. 2. From the 3D Equipment Settings window, select “Ask for System name” and “Edit after create”. Then select Ok. 3. Select Phantom Equip Transmutate from the VidCAD toolbar. 3ote: The order in which you transmutate furniture and equipment items in 3-D is important. If an equipment item is placed inside a rack or rack frame, the rack or rack frame must be transmutated first, and then the equipment. Otherwise the placement information for the equipment item will be incorrect. 4. Select All from the Phantom 3-D Transmutate Options, then select Ok. 72 5. A Select System Name dialog displays with the next available SYSNAME in the database. Accept the default assignment by selecting Ok. 6. An Edit Equipment dialog displays with information about the current furniture piece. You may choose to add information in some of these data fields. For this exercise, do not enter any information. Select Ok. 73 7. After selecting Ok on the final screen, your drawing should look like the image below. The rack is now ready to be loaded with equipment. 3ote: The line style changes from a green continuous line to a brown continuous line. The line style change is a visual reminder that the equipment item is now in the database and is considered a real equipment item. 74 Exercise 12: Deleting Real Cables In this exercise we will delete a Real cable and revert it to Phantom mode (remove it from the database, but not from the drawing). Do not use the AutoCAD Erase or Windows Delete command to delete real cables, doing so will result in your cable being removed from the drawing, but not from the database. To delete real cables, use the VidCAD Cable Delete command. Sequence: 1. Open the D01 Diagram drawing you have been working on and select Cable Delete the VidCAD toolbar. from the Cables flyout of 2. At the Cable Delete window, select Revert to Phantom and select your cable selection option, Crossing Window, Select Cables, or All Cables in Drawing. In this example we will use Crossing Window. 3. Draw a window around the cable. 4. Select “Done” from the Cable Delete window. 75 5. When you have completed this exercise, your drawing should look like the image below. 3ote: The line style changes from a continuous line to a dash-dot line. The line style change is a visual reminder that the cable is now in the drawing but not in the database. 76 Exercise 13: Deleting Real Equipment In this exercise, we will delete Real equipment and revert it to Phantom mode (remove it from the database, but not from the drawing). Do not use the AutoCAD Erase or Windows Delete command to delete real equipment. To delete real equipment, only use the VidCAD Equipment Delete command. Sequence 1. Open the D01 Diagram drawing you have been working with and select Equipment Delete Equipment flyout of the VidCAD toolbar. from the 2. At the Equipment Delete window, select Revert to Phantom and select your equipment selection option, Crossing Window, Select Equipment, or All Equipment in Drawing. In this example we will select “All Equipment in Drawing.” 3. Select Done from the Equipment Delete window. 4. When prompted if you really want to delete All equipment in this drawing, select Yes. 5. When you have completed this exercise, your drawing should look like the image below. 3ote: The line style on the equipment has changed from a continuous line to a dash-dot line. The line style change is a visual reminder that the cable is now in the drawing but not in the database. 77 Section 4: Alternate Methods of Creating Drawings VidCAD Room Designer is the preferred tool for creating drawings and organizing drawing sets, however, you may encounter a situation where using the Room Designer is not needed. The exercises in this section will teach you two alternate methods of creating new drawings. Exercise 14: Creating a new diagram from the VidCAD Main Menu. In this exercise you will use the “New Diagram” tool to create a new drawing in the same facility you have used in the previous exercises. 3ote: This tool allows the creation of diagram drawings only. An alternate method of creating 3-D or Concept drawings is covered in the next exercise. Sequence 1. 78 From the VidCAD Main Menu select “drawing view” from Facility Options. Highlight the facility where the new drawing will be placed and select “New Diagram”. 2. In the Create New Drawing dialog box, type in the name of your new drawing and select Ok. In this example, “New Diagram” is used as the name of the new drawing. 3. The drawing name will now appear in the drawing list in the VidCAD Main Menu. Open the “New Diagram” drawing by double clicking on the drawing name. 4. When the drawing has loaded, select the model tab to view the drawing in model space. Use the information in Exercise 3 to define your drawing space. The drawing is ready for equipment and cables. 79 Exercise 15: Using the “1ew” command to create new drawings. In this exercise you will use the “New” command to create a new 3-D drawing in the same facility you have used in the previous exercises. Sequence 1. Open the “New Diagram” drawing that was created in the previous exercise. 2. Select “Qnew” (Quick New) from the toolbar. 3. From the Select Template window, choose the appropriate template for the type of drawing desired. In this exercise we are creating a 3-D drawing and will therefore select the “3-D ANSI Style 1 2-8A.dwt” template. Select Open. 80 4. At the Select a New Drawing Name window, click the down arrow in the down arrow in the Save In area and navigate to the correct project folder. Type in a name for your file and click Save. 5. The 3-D drawing is now open and ready for furniture and equipment. 81 Section 5: CDOC - Reports and Labels VidCAD has moved its database structure to SQL, however, we are using the latest version of FoxPro to handle the reporting functions and creating labels. This section will concentrate on how to create reports and labels from the VidCAD equipment and cable reports and cable labels from the VidCAD Reporter. Most reports can be modified and saved as custom reports, and can also be exported into a variety of file types. Exercise 16: Creating Cable Reports In this exercise, you will learn how to create a cable report from one of our preconfigured report templates. Sequence 1. From the VidCAD Main Menu, select a facility, then select “Reporter.” 2. Select “Project Cables” from the Cables flyout of the Reporter menu bar. 82 3. A Project Cables dialog displays with Reports and Labels tabs. In the Reports tab, select “c-cutlist” from the report Template File list. Then select “All Cables” from Scope. Finally, select “Preview”. 4. A preview of the cable report now displays and lists the only cable currently linked in the facility drawings created in the previous exercises. 5. The report can be printed by selecting the printer icon on the report toolbar. 83 Exercise 17: Creating Equipment Reports In this exercise, you will learn how to create an equipment report from one of our preconfigured report templates. 3ote: VidCAD offers some reports that are already configured for your use. Types of reports include an equipment list, equipment connections, or equipment specifications report. To control the data that is in the report, you can further filter data based upon the equipment items you select or the active equipment item. Sequence 1. From the VidCAD Main Menu, select a facility, then select “Reporter.” 2. Select “Project Equipment” from the Equipment flyout of the Reporter menu bar. 84 3. Depending on your label and labeler type, you may choose to export this label information or print directly from the reporter. 87 Section 6: Plotting This section will cover basic instruction regarding title block and layout management. Exercise 19: Adding a Layout to the Title drawing This exercise will show you how to create additional layout tabs and add them to existing sheet sets. You will be prompted for templates and size you will use. Sequence 1. Open the Diagram drawing that was created in Exercise 3. 2. Right click on the Layout tab (D01 Diagram) and select “From Template”. 3. From the “Select Template From File” window, select the appropriate drawing type template then select Open. 88 4. The diagram drawing already has an “B” size layout (default). Select a “D 3/64” size layout for this exercise, then select OK. 5. The new layout will appear using the default name from the template and layout size. 6. Notice the title block customer information area is not filled in. 7. Save the drawing. 3ote: If you do not save, the following function will not work! 89 8. After the drawing is saved, right click on the diagram subset of the Room Designer and select “Import Layout as Sheet”. 9. In the Import Layouts as Sheets window, select “Browse for Drawings.”. 10. Navigate to your project folder and select the drawing with the new layout (D01 Diagram), then select Open. 90 11. Select the name of the new layout (Diagram D 3-64) then select “Import Checked.” 12. In the Sheet Set Manager, you will see the new layout under the Diagram Subset. 13. After the layout is added to the Sheet Set, the customer information should also be updated. 14. This new layout is ready to plot. 91 Exercise 20: Automatic Title Block completion If you completed the customer information area when you created the facility, and used VidCAD Room Designer to create your drawing layouts, you will have created a layout with a predefined title block that is automatically filled by Room Designer. Below is an image of the title block customer information area, showing the customer information, address, etc. If the information in this area is accurate, then this layout is ready to plot. In this exercise we will change the Sheet No. field of the title block for the Table of Contents layout. Sequence: 1. 92 From the VidCAD Room Designer (Sheet Set Manager), select Table of Contents. 2. With the Table of Contents drawing now open to the layout tab, zoom into the customer information area of the block. You will see that there is not a sheet number in the title block. 3ote: The name of the layout of the Table of Contents is likely to be the same name of the Room (Sheet Set) unless you renamed it in Exercise 2, Step 8. In this example, the layout tab is named Room 1. 3. From the VidCAD Room Designer, right click on the name of the room, then select Properties. 4. A Rename & Renumber Sheet dialog appears. In the 1umber field type in “T01” and select OK. 93 5. 94 To refresh the field, either switch between layouts or Regen the drawing. Notice the Sheet number is now T01. Exercise 21: Adding the Table of Contents It is very easy to create the Table of Contents (TOC) for a VidCAD drawing set. By this time you will have already: • Created a VidCAD Facility. (Exercise 1) • Created a Room (Sheet Set) for your Facility. (Exercise 2) • Added the drawing Sheets to the Room and made labeling and numbering decisions. (Exercises 3 & 7) 3ow you are ready to create a TOC. Part 1: Establishing a Table Format 1. From the drawing menu bar, select the Format flyout and select “Table Style”. 2. From the Table Style window, select “New” to create a new style. 95 3. Enter “New Style” in the New Style Name box, and select “Continue.” 4. Verify the Cell Data field is set to “Data.” 5. Select the “Text” tab. 6. Change the Text height field value to “0.0800.” 96 7. Select “Header” in the Cell styles field. 8. Select the “Text” tab. 9. Migrating from VidCAD SQL 1-2.5 to VidCAD SQL 2.9 Migrating from VidCAD 2.5 to 2.9 requires a full uninstall of all existing VidCAD Software. Why? VidCAD 2.9 is built and programmed to run on AutoCAD 2008. VidCAD SQL 1.0 – 2.5 was built to run on AutoCAD 2005. This platform change requires a significant change in how VidCAD operates “behind the scenes.” The migration process will take about 90 minutes. The procedures in this document will guide you through the process step by step. Part 1: Updating and backing up your VidCAD 2.5 Data 1. You must update you VidCAD SQL database to the latest version prior to migrating to VidCAD SQL 2.9. Download and run the update from www.vidcad.net\vidcadsqlupdate2.zip. 2. Determine the best location for storing your VidCAD Backup. Locations may include a network drive, external hard drive, CD or DVD. Just make sure it is somewhere other than the hard drive of the computer you use for your VidCAD operation. 3. Once a backup location is determined, create a windows folder in that location and name it something logical (i.e., “VidCAD Backup January 1 2008”). In this example we will use that exact name for our backup. 4. 5. 6. Use Windows Explore to navigate to C:\VidCAD and copy the entire VidCAD Directory to the backup folder created in the previous step. This step will back up your drawings, templates, and facilities. The next step will require you stop the Microsoft SQL server. Click on Start then Control Panel. From the Control Panel select Administrative Tools. 7. From Administrative Tools select Services. 101 8. From the Services window highlight SQL Server (VDP) then select “Stop” from the left side of the services list. 9. Use Windows Explore to navigate to C:\Program Files and locate Microsoft SQL Server. 10. Open the Microsoft SQL Server folder. 11. From the Microsoft SQL Server folder, open the “MSSQL$VDP” folder 102 12. Open the “Data” Folder. 13. In the Data folder, select the “CurrentVidCAD_Data.MDF” and “CurrentVidCAD_Log.LDF” and copy the files. Paste the files to the backup folder created in step 2. 14. Now you must restart your Microsoft SQL Server by repeating steps 5-7 to access the Services window. 15. From the Services Window, highlight SQL Server\VDP then select Start from the left side of the services list. 15. Your VidCAD Backup is now complete. Part 2: Uninstall VidCAD SQL 2.5 and AutoCAD 2005 OEM 1. Select Start >Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs. (3ote: If you are running Windows Vista go to “Programs and Features” in Control Panel) 103 2. Locate VidCAD SQL from the list of programs and select “Remove.” 3. Select “Yes” when asked if you want to remove VidCAD SQL. VidCAD SQL 2.5 will now uninstall. 4. Locate VidCAD OEM from the list of programs and select “Remove.” 3ote: This step does not apply to VidCAD users running Full AutoCAD. 3ote: Earlier install of VidCAD SQL called this program “VidCAD 12.” If you see VidCAD 12 instead of VidCAD OEM, remove it. 5. Select “Yes” when asked if you want to remove VidCAD OEM. VidCAD OEM will now uninstall. 6. 7. 8. Close the Add Remove Programs window. Close the Control Panel window. Navigate to C:/Program Files and delete the “VidCAD SQL” folder. 104 9. If you are prompted if you really want to delete this folder, select “Yes.” 10. Reboot your computer. Part 3: Install VidCAD SQL 2.9 1. Install VidCAD SQL 2.9. (Refer to the instructions in Getting Started With VidCAD SQL 2.9 Manual if needed) 2. 3ote: You will be prompted for your VidCAD Codes when you install VidCAD SQL 2.9. Please have them in hand prior to beginning the installation. Install the SQL database. (Refer to the instructions in Getting Started With VidCAD SQL 2.9 Manual if needed) 3ote: At the “Database Found” window be sure to select “use my existing database.” 3. Install AutoCAD OEM. (Refer to the instructions in Getting Started With VidCAD SQL 2.9 Manual if needed) 3ote: Skip this step if you run Full AutoCAD 2007 or higher. 4. Start VidCAD to ensure it opens properly. VidCAD should open using a blank database. In the next part of this procedure, you will restore your original VidCAD Database. 5. Close VidCAD Part 4: Updating your VidCAD Database 1. 2. 3. Download and run the latest VidCAD update from www.vidcad.net/vidcadsqlupdate2-9.zip. Start the VidCAD Main Menu. All projects that were displayed on your VidCAD SQL 2.5 Main Menu should now appear on your VidCAD SQL 2.9 Main Menu. If all projects are displayed, the migration process is complete. Enjoy VidCAD 2.9! 105 15. Conversion from VidCAD 12f to VidCAD SQL 2.9 This section of the getting started manual provides information to users moving directly from VidCAD version 12f to VidCAD SQL 2.9. If you do not have VidCAD 12f data to convert please skip to the next section. Part 1: Backing up 12f files Before you uninstall VidCAD 12f it is important to make a backup copy of your entire C:/VidCAD directory AND run a Monthly Zip Utility. Both of these items will be used to convert your existing Foxpro database files into SQL database information. 1. Create a folder on your desktop, network drive, etc and name the folder VidCAD V12f backup followed by the date. 2. Navigate to the C drive and copy the entire “VidCAD” folder from the root of C: to the backup folder you created in Step 1. 3. 4. If you have any project folders outside of the VidCAD directory copy them to the backup folder you created in step 1. Navigate to C:\VidCAD\Library and open the Utilities folder. 106 5. Select the executable file “ziputility_monthly.exe.” 6. 7. Allow the Zip Utility to run. Navigate to C:/Program Files and locate a folder named VidCAD_archive. 107 8. Open the Vidcad_archive folder and you will find a folder named “LM.” 9. Open the LM folder. 10. In the LM folder you will find a m_vidcad_archive.zip file containing the date and time you ran the zip file. 3ote: if there are numerous zip files in this folder, sort by date and copy the last one created or look at the file name which contains the date and time the file was created. 11. Copy the monthly zip file to the 12f backup created in Step 1. 12. Your backup is now complete and you can confidently uninstall everything related to VidCAD 12f. Part 2: Uninstalling 12f 1. 2. 108 Navigate to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Locate VidCAD 12f and select Change. 3. Select “Next” in the VidCAD 12f window. 4. Select “Remove” from the Program Maintenance window then select Next. 109 5. Select “Remove” from the Remove the Program window. 6. Locate VidCAD 12 (May also be called VidCAD OEM on some installs) and select Remove. 7. 8. 9. If you have any older versions of VidCAD installed they must also be uninstalled. Close the Add or Remove Programs window. Close the Control Panel window. 110 10. Navigate to C:/Program Files and delete the VidCAD 12 folder. 11. Start VidCAD to ensure it opens properly. VidCAD should open using a blank database. In the next part of this procedure, you will convert you VidCAD 12f data to SQL. 10. Close VidCAD. 111 Part 4: Converting your 12f library 3ote: Before you begin the next step it is important you close all programs on your computer and select a time you can be without your computer for 15 minutes to 2 hours. 1. Navigate to C:\VidCAD\Temp and create a folder named 12f library inside the Temp folder. 2. 3. Navigate to your 12f backup folder and copy the Monthly Zip file into C:\VidCAD\Temp\12f Library. Unzip the Monthly Archive into the new folder, C:\VidCAD\Temp\12f Library. 4. Close all VidCAD folders and open your VidCAD Main Menu. 112 5. Open the VidCAD SQL 2.9 Main Menu and select “Convert from FoxPro” from the Utilities pull down menu of the VidCAD Main Menu. 6. The VidCAD DBF_2SQL window now displays with the path C:\VidCAD\Library as the default conversion path. Select the ellipsis from the end of the path field. 7. Select the location C:\VidCAD\Temp\12f Library. 113 8. Verify Path to VidCAD is “C:\VidCAD\Temp\12f Library” then select “Convert Library” 9. When the conversion is complete “Done” will appear over the progress bars. 10. Select the “Error Log” tab to view any errors. Most items that appear in the error log such as “Trayspec.dbf” or any duplication errors are harmless. Report any other errors to VidCAD Technical Support. 11. Your Library is now converted and you can proceed with converting your projects. Part 5: Facility Conversion 1. 114 Navigate to your 12F backup folder and go in the VidCAD\Projects folder. Copy all Project folders and paste them into C:\VidCAD\Projects. 2. Open your VidCAD SQL 2.9 Main Menu and select “Convert From FoxPro from the Utilities pull down menu. 3. Select the “Convert Facilities” tab. 4. Select “Add Facilities to List” 115 5. Navigate the Browse for folder window to C:\VidCAD\Projects and select the first facility you wish to convert. 6. The Facility will now display on the Left column of the conversion window. 7. Continue adding facilities to convert until all facilities are selected. 116 8. Select “Convert Checked Facilities” 9. When all Facilities are converted “Done” will appear over the progress bar. 10. Select the “Error Log” tab and report any errors to VidCAD Technical Support. 11. Select the Facility Report and review the Cable and Equipment counts. Part 6: Restoring other important items from your 12f backup folder. 1. 2. 3. If you created custom 3D blocks you will need to copy those 3D blocks from your 12f backup folder to your new VidCAD directory. Navigate to your 12f backup folder\VidCAD\Library\CMP. Copy all files in the Vv folder and paste them into C:\VidCAD\Library\CMP\Vv. Repeat the process for files in the Xx folder. If you created custom connectors in 12f you will need to copy those files from your 12f backup folder to your new VidCAD directory. Navigate to your 12f backup folder\VidCAD\Library\Connectors. Copy all files in the Connectors folder and paste them into C:\VidCAD\Library\Connectors. If you modified or created VidCAD reports or queries you will need to copy those files from your 12f backup folder to your new VidCAD directory. Navigate to your 12f backup folder\VidCAD\Library\Reports and paste them into C:\VidCAD\Library\Reports. Part 7: Testing your Library Conversion 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Open your VidCAD SQL 2.9 Main Menu. Open a drawing and select Equipment Create. Search for a Manufacturer you know you created custom in 12f. Search for equipment and manufacturers you know you built custom in 12f. If everything seems to be in order you are ready to begin using VidCAD SQL 2.9. 117 Part 8: Testing your Facility Conversion (Quick Test) 1. 2. Open your VidCAD SQL 2.9 Main Menu. Select “Facility Report” from the Facility pull down menu of the VidCAD Main Menu. 3. Review the “cdocable” table, which is the number of cables in a project ,and the “cdocequip” which is the number of pieces of equipment in a project. If the count appears to be accurate then the conversion was successful. 4. Close the Facility Report window. Part 9: Testing your Facility Conversion (Thorough Test) 1. 2. 118 Open your VidCAD SQL 2.9 Main Menu. Select “Facility Report” from the Facility pull down menu of the VidCAD Main Menu. 3. Review the “cdocable” table, which is the number of cables in a project ,and the “cdocequip” which is the number of pieces of equipment in a project. Compare these figures to the count in the actual DBF file that was converted. 4. Select the Save button from the bottom of the Facility Report window and save this file to your VidCAD\Archive folder. Put the date at the end of the report so you can run this again. 5. Open the Facility Report.CSV in Excel. 6. Add lines after each Facility row, so you can add the number from the original DBF file. 7. Check the original DBF with any FoxPro viewer. Here are a few suggestions: • Excel (older versions only. 2007 version does not work). • DBF Viewer 2000 (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/downloads/foxpro_viewer_info/ • Quick View Plus (http://www.avantstar.com/Products/Quick_View_Plus/QuickViewPlusOverview) 119 8. Enter the data and analyze 9. Some numbers may not match perfectly. For instance: • Excel always shows 1 more row, because it numbers the header column. • UseTerm and CDOCMul (Multipair cable) will often be different because of database not being packed. • Router will usually be much higher, because V12 VDPRotr also included I/Os for unused Routers. 10. End of Conversion process. 120 16. Open your VidCAD SQL 2.9 Main Menu. Open a drawing and select Equipment Create. Search for a Manufacturer you know you created custom in VidCAD 2002. Search for equipment and manufacturers you know you built custom in VidCAD 2002. Put the date at the end of the report so you can run this again. 5. Open the Facility Report.CSV in Excel. 6. Add lines after each Facility row, so you can add the number from the original DBF file. 7. Check the original DBF with any FoxPro viewer. Enter the data and analyze 9. Some numbers may not match perfectly. For instance: 132 • Excel always shows 1 more row, because it numbers the header column. • UseTerm and CDOCMul (Multipair cable) will often be different because of database not being packed. • Router will usually be much higher, because V12 VDPRotr also included I/Os for unused Routers. 17.
