Education
makes a
Difference
Who we are
The Alzheimer Disease and Other
Dementia Care Course (ADODCC) is a
coordinated provincial education program
focusing on care provision for persons with
Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.
The course is interactive, which enables
participants to bring the material to life
and make it practical for day-to-day care
provision.
The ADODCC is divided into nine sessions
with a minimum of 27 instructional hours.
All sessions must be attended before
a certificate of completion is awarded.
Learners participate in lectures, group
discussions, interactive workshops, view
videos and must successfully complete a
final assessment project.

Testimonials
The Alzheimer’s disease course . . . was
a learning experience that gave me a
complete understanding on how complex
and diverse Alzheimer’s disease truly is. It
. . . gave me a new respect for the families
that cope from day to day . . . . It was an
enlightening experience that I have kept
close to my heart and is with me on every
step of my career.”

Benefits
The ADODCC course:
Is this course for you?
•
provides a holistic, person-centered
philosophy to understanding dementia
and how the symptoms affect
behaviour.
Experienced and inexperienced care givers
interested in improving their knowledge of
dementia care can benefit from participating
in this course.
•
focuses on strategies to help with the
activities of daily living, finding the
right balance between maintaining
independence and offering support.
• aids caregivers and care providers
in their efforts to maintain a person’s
identity, dignity, and self esteem.
➢• is founded on the philosophy
that quality care of persons with
dementia involves an interdisciplinary
team approach to ensure greater
communication and understanding for
all those involved in the care of
persons with dementia.
• is an accessible, relevant education
program.
The Alzheimer Disease and Other
Dementia Care Course recognizes that
persons with dementia have the same basic
needs for security, shelter, nutrition and
affection as other adults, and have the same
rights to have these basic needs met. The
challenge for caregivers is to meet these
needs, as progressive disease symptoms
cause increasing dependence.
•
Those who work in organizations
providing care to seniors will benefit
from an improved understanding of
persons with dementia.
•
Family and community members can
access a wealth of information and
connect with others who support people
with dementia.
Everyone is an important part of the
team.
How will they benefit?
•
The knowledge, skills, and attitudes
gained by completing the ADODCC is
a great foundation to providing a quality,
person-centered approach to caring for
persons with dementia.
•
An investment in ADODCC education
will increase the abilities of care providers
and caregivers who care for persons with
Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia.
