sign for all human beings of the need to die to themselves to do God’s
will.” In other words, as baptized Catholics there is only one gift that we
need to give to Jesus – the gift of ourselves. Once we surrender
ourselves to God, we will know in our hearts what God calls us to do.

Even though Jesus had absolutely no need to be cleansed from sin
himself, Jesus takes our place by being baptized by John. And we
in turn, when we are baptized, are called to take Jesus' place, to
become "sons in the Son" as one ancient writer put it. The
sacrament of baptism, then, is the gateway to the rest of Christian
life. From the moment of baptism, our life-mission no longer
consists of mundane things like:
*becoming successful in the eyes of the world,
*making a lot of money,
*become famous and powerful,
*or maximizing our experience of life's pleasures.
Those are the life-goals of pagans. But we who are Christians have
two very different life-goals, and all our other activities are directed
towards achieving them. First, holiness. Holiness is God's word
for happiness. It consists first in following the moral law that God
built into human nature – the ten commandments and the moral
teachings of the Church. And secondly, pursuing holiness also
involves growing in our friendship with Jesus Christ through daily
prayer, the sacraments, and our efforts to follow his example. This
pursuit of holiness is the primary life-goal of every Christian, not
just priests, monks, and nuns.
But in addition to pursuing holiness ourselves, our baptism gave
us another life-goal, namely that of bringing other people into
God's family. We are Christ's ambassadors in the world; we are his
apostles. As his followers, we are, like him, as Isaiah describes it in
today's First Reading, "the light of the world." And through our
words, actions, and example, each one of us is called to lead
others into friendship with the Lord.
Let’s remember that we are baptized. Whenever life hurts, let’s
remember the gift of our baptism. God is near us, and he turns
even our suffering into joy. Our baptism is not a thing of the past.
It’s a living reality, today. Pope Francis often asks people if they
know the day of their baptism. Do we all know ours? It’s a day of
celebration. Look it up. Find out what day you were baptized. And
celebrate that. Thank God for that.
Today, on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, Jesus wants to
remind us: “You are a baptized Catholic. You are the beloved son
of God, the beloved daughter of God. In you the Father is well
pleased.” Let's thank him for coming down to our level and taking
our place, and let's renew our commitment to our twofold lifemission of holiness and apostolate.

Baptism of the Lord: “And a voice came from the heavens, saying, ‘This is
my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’ (Matthew 3:17). At the
Baptism of Jesus, God made it clear that He was giving us the greatest gift He
could give. He was giving us His only Son. When you think about the magnitude
of that gift of Jesus sent to save us, plus all of the many other blessings that
God has entrusted into our hands, it is very humbling. God has given us so
much. What do we give in return?

CARTA DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Queridos Parroquianos,
Aunque Jesús no tenía absolutamente ninguna necesidad de ser
purificado del pecado, Jesús toma nuestro lugar para ser
bautizado por Juan. Y a su vez, cuando somos bautizados,
estamos llamados a tomar el lugar de Jesús, para convertirnos en
«hijos del, hijo" como dijo un escritor antiguo. El Sacramento del
bautismo, entonces, es la puerta al resto de la vida cristiana.
Desde el momento del bautismo, nuestra vida-misión ya no
consiste en cosas mundanas como
* ser exitoso a los ojos del mundo,
* hacer mucho dinero,
* convertirse en famoso y poderoso,
* o llevar al máximo nuestra experiencia en los placeres de la vida.
Ésos son los objetivos de vida de los paganos. Pero los cristianos
tenemos dos objetivos muy diferentes de vida, y todas nuestras
actividades están dirigidas a lograrlo. Primero, la santidad. La
santidad es la palabra de Dios para la felicidad. Primero consiste
en seguir la ley moral de Dios en la naturaleza humana – los diez
mandamientos y las enseñanzas morales de la iglesia. Y en
segundo lugar, conseguir la santidad también creciendo en
nuestra amistad con Jesús Cristo a través de la oración diaria, los
sacramentos y nuestros esfuerzos para seguir su ejemplo. Esta
búsqueda de la santidad es la meta primaria de la vida de cada
cristiano, no sólo sacerdotes, monjes y monjas.
Pero además para alcanzar la santidad nosotros mismos, nuestro
bautismo nos dio otra meta en la vida, es decir, llevar a otras
personas a la familia de Dios. Somos embajadores de Cristo en el
mundo; Somos sus apóstoles. Como sus seguidores, somos,
como él, como lo describe Isaías en la primera lectura de hoy, "la
luz del mundo". Y a través de nuestras palabras, y acciones y
ejemplo, cada uno de nosotros está llamado a guiar a otros en
amistad con el Señor.
Recordemos que somos bautizados. Cada vez que sufrimos,
recordemos el don de nuestro bautismo. Dios está cerca de
nosotros, y vuelve incluso nuestro sufrimiento en alegría. El
bautismo no es una cosa del pasado. Es una realidad, en el día de
hoy. El papa Francisco a menudo pregunta a la gente si saben el
día de su bautismo. ¿Todos sabemos el nuestro? Es una fecha de
celebración. Mire para arriba. Saben qué día fueron bautizados. Y
lo celebran. Gracias a Dios por eso.
Hoy, en la fiesta del bautismo del Señor, Jesús quiere recordarnos:
"eres un Católico bautizado. Eres el amado hijo de Dios, la amada
hija de Dios. El padre está complacido." Vamos a darle las gracias
por bajar a nuestro nivel y tomar nuestro lugar, vamos a renovar
nuestro compromiso con nuestra doble misión en la vida de
santidad y de apostolado.

Que cumplamos con nuestra llamada Bautismal entregándonos a
Dios y respondiendo a su llamado a la santidad.
"Juan les respondió a todos, 'Yo los bautizo con agua; pero viene
uno más poderoso que yo ...El los bautizará con el Espíritu
Santo…' " (Lucas 3:16)
El Catecismo Católico establece que “La inmersión de Jesús en
el agua es un signo para todos los seres humanos de su necesidad
de morir para hacer la voluntad de Dios". En otras palabras,
como católicos bautizados hay un solo don que nosotros
necesitamos darle a Jesús- el don de nosotros mismos. Una vez
que nos entregamos a Dios, sabremos en nuestros corazones cual
es el llamado de Dios para nosotros.

¿POR QUE LOS PADRINOS Y MADRINAS DE BAUTISMO
TIENEN QUE ESTAR CASADOS POR LA IGLESIA? El ser
padrino o madrina, no solo de Bautismo, sino de cualquier
Sacramento, representa a la misma Iglesia. No es solo porque es
alguien de la familia, conocido, o el que va a pagar la fiesta. Los
padrinos y madrinas, representan en ese momento a nuestra Iglesia.
Y si la representan lo deben hacer de manera completa. Tenemos
muy seguido solicitudes para bautizar pidiendo que alguna pareja
que están casados solo por la ley civil y no por la Iglesia, sean los
padrinos. La respuesta es NO pueden, porque entonces NO están
representando completamente a la Iglesia. No juzgamos por que si o
por que no se han casado por la Iglesia, eso es algo personal, pero si
están queriendo ser padrinos por la Iglesia es porque van a dar
ejemplo de vida a su ahijado(a) viviendo su fe y recibiendo sus
sacramentos. El ahijado o ahijada esta “viendo” en sus padrinos que
el Sacramento del Matrimonio no es necesario, y la realidad es que
necesitamos a Dios en nuestras vidas y dar ejemplo de su presencia
en todo lo que hacemos. Si invitando a Dios al casarnos por la Iglesia,
nos va como nos va, que pasa si no lo tenemos?
El joven Edwin Eliseo López Cárcamo y Nancy Paula González
Gonzales, fueron presentados el Parroquia de, Nuestra Señora
de la Natividad de María, mara el lazo matrimonial que se
llevará acabo en el mes de marzo del presenta Año, en la
parroquia ya Mencionada. Si alguien de esta comunidad tiene
algún impedimento para que esta boda se realice por favor de
comunicarse con el Diacono Pedro Salas a la Oficina Parroquial.
Ya que Eliseo es miembro de esta Parroquia de San Jerónimo.
BAUTISMO DE NUESTRO SEÑOR JESUCRISTO: "Y he
aquí una voz del cielo decía: «Éste es mi Hijo amado; estoy
muy complacido con él" (Mateo 3:17)
En el Bautismo de
Jesús, Dios dejó claro que Él nos estaba dando el mejor regalo
que El pudiera dar. Nos estaba dando a Su único Hijo. Cuando
se piensa bien sobre la magnitud del regalo de recibir a Jesús
para ser salvos, además de todas las otras bendiciones que Dios
ha confiado en nuestras manos, esto da un sentimiento de
humildad. Dios nos ha dado tanto. ¿Qué damos de vuelta?

WHY GO TO CHURCH? - A Church goer wrote a letter to the
editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to
church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in
that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life
of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting
my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at
all."
This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor"
column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until
someone wrote this clincher:
"I've been married for 30 years
now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for
the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those
meals. But I do know this.. They all nourished me and gave me the
strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these
meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone
to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!" When
you are DOWN to nothing..... God is UP to something! Faith sees the
invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank
God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment! I think everyone
should read this!

America (CLA) will be the weekend of January 24-25.
The 2015 campaign highlights the faith of Latin America
and the many opportunities we have to share faith with
them. We also recognize the tremendous benefit of having
our Latin American brothers and sisters in the Church and
the revitalization their fervor brings to the faith. In addition
to offering our help and support to the Catholics of Latin
America, we have much to learn from them.

esperanza. En la Diócesis de San Miguel, en El Salvador, los
jóvenes de la Parroquia de la Sagrada Familia se afrontan
grandes riesgos debido a la violencia y la actividad de las
pandillas. Por ello, la parroquia creó un programa de
enriquecimiento y liderazgo para la juventud para responder a la
necesidad de los jóvenes de contar con talentos de análisis
crítico y una educación en valores. La parroquia espera
ayudar a estos jóvenes que viven en zonas muy vulnerables
y crear una cultura de solidaridad y de paz dentro
de sus vecindarios. En la parroquia participa un grupo
de 75 jóvenes adultos quienes se convertirán en líderes
juveniles para propagar el mensaje del evangelio en sus
vecindarios y poner fin al ciclo de violencia. ¡Muchas gracias por

Formación para el Ministerio Cristiano
¿Quieres aprender de la fe Católica? ¿Quieres servir mejor en algún ministerio
y no sabes cómo? Te invitamos a que participes en el programa de Formación
para el Ministerio Cristiano. Es un programa de tres semestres donde se ofrece
una formación teológica, espiritual y bíblica basado en la doctrina Católica
impartidos por instructores aprobados y calificados con grados de Maestría o
Doctorado en las ramas de la Teología. El costo de cada semestre es de la
siguiente manera, el participante paga $25 por semestre, la parroquia paga $25
y la Arquidiócesis paga $25 (financiado por el fondo Diocesano). Para más

IMPORTANTE SER MIEMBRO REGISTRADO DE UNA
IGLESIA? En nuestra Arquidiócesis de Galveston-
Houston, se nos sugiere que seamos miembros
registrados de la parroquia a la que acudimos con
frecuencia. Los beneficios de ser miembro registrado de
San Jeronimo incluyen: Recibir sacramentos tales como
bautizos, matrimonio - Recibir bendición de quinceañeras
Misas de Funeral - Visita y comunión a los enfermos
confinados en sus hogares o en hospitales del area.
San Jerónimo mantiene un archivo de su membresía y
donaciones para si en alguna ocasión necesita una carta
de recomendación (para migración). Al final del año, le
enviamos por correo un estado de cuenta de sus
donaciones para que haga su deducción en los
impuestos/IRS. Descuento en la colegiatura de las
escuelas Católicas. Ayuda con comida y ropa de San
Vicente de Paul. Se puede ganar una hermosa Biblia en
cada misa por medio de su sobre. Y en cuanto a nosotros,
este registro nos sirve para saber a cuantas familias
servimos. Es muy importante dar un ejemplo positivo a
nuestros hijos.
Esta práctica se puede pasar de
generación en generación. Lo invitamos a que seriamente
reconsidere el registrarse en San Jerónimo el tercer
domingo de cada mes después de la Misa de 12 medio
día.

alto nivel académico y las tasas de alta graduación, todo

sociedad estadounidense. La Semana de las Escuelas Católica
se celebra a nivel nacional a partir del último domingo de
enero. Las escuelas celebran semana Católica de las escuelas
con la comunidad, con apertura y actividades para
