From Fr. Michael Shanahan, our Pastor
Del Padre Michael Shanahan, nuestro Párroco
.Each story we hear in these Easter days bears witness to the grace and power of the Risen Christ.
We read of the apostles and their families, of the
thousands who were baptized after having heard
of Jesus. We hear about how the disciples continued to spread their experience of Christ with others. We see that the flame of faith spread far and
wide.
This mission has not been abandoned and
Christianity has not lost its power. There are those
among us who are living witnesses to Christ and their
ministry demonstrates this with great strength. There
is a document from the Second Vatican Council
known as the Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity
that speaks to this. We read: “the laity likewise share
in the priestly, prophetic, and royal office of Christ
and therefore have their own share in the mission of
the whole people of God in the Church and in the
world.” Why do I echo these specific words?
On Thursday of this past week we gave thanks for
the life and love of Helen Cosgrove, a parishioner for
many years. Helen was one of the original founders of
our Soup Kitchen more than 25 years ago. The Soup
Kitchen continues to this day and there is a profound
spirit of charity and goodness there. Helen also ministered to countless souls who were seeking to understand the Church and the message of the Gospel in
their lives. Helen always sought to understand the true
meaning of faith in daily life. Just a couple of weeks
ago, I was visiting Helen and she shared with me
about a book she was currently reading that offers a
contemporary understanding of Scripture. We are
grateful for such the special light and inspiration we
found in Helen. May Helen rest in Peace!
Today’s Gospel reminds us of the nature of God
whom we worship: “I am the Good Shepherd”. May
we find reassurance in our encounter with Christ
through these words. I am also inspired by and grateful for the ordination of Leo Restrepo as a permanent
deacon for Lourdes. Please come to meet Leo and his
wife Amparo after the 11:30am Mass on the rectory
patio today. God Bless Leo and Amparo. May you
know the rich Goodness of the Shepherd as you embrace your ministry.
Finally, congratulations to our teens who celebrated Confirmation on Friday and to our younger
children who will celebrate their First Communion
here next weekend!! God Bless all of our catechists for
Dios bendiga a Leo y Amparo.
Finalmente, felicitaciones a nuestros adolescents,
nuestra gente joven.
keeping the Spirit alive among us with our young people.

A PILGRIMAGE OF TRUST IN CHICAGO
This summer hundreds of young adults will hear this
message, “take part in your local church… be part of
a parish.”
This encouragement is proclaimed at the end of a 3
day Pilgrimage of Trust on Memorial Day weekend,
(May 25-28), when young adults (ages 18-25) have an
unique opportunity to experience a community of prayer,
hospitality and faith sharing during this weekend created
by the Taize Brothers from France.
The Taize Brothers organize large gatherings each
year in cities around the world. This year the pilgrimage
will take place at DePaul University in Lincoln Park.
Young people will come to pray, meet others, to reflect
on the Gospel and to live the experience of Church as a
community of hope. Young adults can register online:
http://taizechicago2012.eventbrite.com

FIGMENTS is coming…
The St. Sebastian Player’s next production opens next weekend on
Friday, April 27.
The farce Figments by Billy St. John closes the season. Rick Jacobs is a
playwright with a wild imagination. As he attempts to overcome a massive case of writer’s block, the audience sees four figments of his imagination ply out the opening scene of his next murder mystery. He –and
they– is/are interrupted by the arrival of his neighbor, Loni, with whom
Rick is secretly, and hopelessly, in love. As Rick’s thoughts bounce between his frustrating love life and his play, the real people and the figments of Rick’s imagination clash riotously with the fictional characters of his play.
Performances are at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays through May 20.
Opening night on April 27th there will be a complimentary post-show reception with the actors.
The suggested donation is $15 for adults and $7 for children and seniors. All shows are at the
theater at St. Bonaventure, 1625 W. Diversey Parkway. Reservation can be made at 773-4047922
