Photographing Wildlife in Florida
Winter and spring are great times to
photograph in Florida. Pat and Tom
Cory recently drove down to Everglades National Park, photographing
at various locations along the way. In
their program, they will show images
from each of the locations including
birds, butterflies, and other ‘wildlife’.
All locations are easy to get to and
offer big rewards. In addition they will
critique the images from the quarterly
contest on ‘Water’. While they were
not the judges of the contest, nor do
they know the results, they will offer
comments based on their experience
in judging other contests.
Tom and Pat Cory have been involved
professionally in photography for many
years. Combining their love of nature,
travel and teaching, they have worked
as a husband/wife team conducting
photography workshops locally, nationally, and internationally since 1987.
They also offer individual lessons and
custom trips.

Youth Photography Showcase
In order to get young people involved
in photography, PSC sponsors the
Youth Photography Showcase each
spring for students in grades 9-12. This
year, digital images were accepted as
well as prints.
There were five categories: Architecture, Photojournalism, Scapes, People/
Animals, and Photographer’s Choice.
Rules for prints and digital entries are
posted online at http://chattanoogaphoto.org/Activities/Contests/Youth_Photography/youth.php.
At the April PSC meeting, attendees
will get to view the students entries,
and the winners will be announced.
The winning images from the Chattanooga area, will be sent to the national
contest sponsored by the Photographic
Society of America, where cash and
other prizes will be awarded to the
winners, and 25% of all the images
submitted are exhibited at PSA’s annual conference.

Tom is a clinical psychologist, and
he retains a part-time practice. Pat
handles most of business side of
their company, Cory Nature and
Travel Photography.
Background: Tom earned his Ph.D.
degree in Clinical Psychology and has
been in private practice for 35 years.
He is very interested in the creative
aspects of photography. Pat earned
her BA in Economics and her professional career was in the area of information systems and management.
They both have studied photography
with many of the best-known photographers in the country.

The Camera Club Council of Tennessee (3CT) proudly announces its
first Interclub Photo Competition. The
theme is “National and State Parks of
Tennessee” with an entry deadline of
April 30. The entry fee (four up to 4
images) is $10, which is payable via
PayPal when submitting your entry online. Only digital
images will be accepted. For more instructions and to

contest!
Photo Contest Focuses on Tennessee’s Civil War Heritage
The “Living Legacies: Capturing the Scenic Beauty of
Tennessee’s Civil War Heritage” Photo Contest involves a
partnership between the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation to
implement the statewide Tennessee Civil War Trails marker
and signage program. Contest entrants are encouraged to
use the Trails marker program as a guide to find numerous
subjects across the state, including:
The 2012 Louisville National Juried Photography
Show is seeking entries. Last year there were entries
from 21 states. This year’s awards pool has been expanded to over $8,000 in cash and other awards, and
there are 8 categories, more than most other shows.
Entry deadline is May 9, and the fee for the first 3 pieces
is $35, and $10 for each additional entry with a limit of
10 entries per person. Entry fees are non-refundable.

The “Living Legacies” photo contest has three goals: (1)
To commemorate the sesquicentennial anniversary of the
American Civil War across the state of Tennessee. (2) To
use photography to tell Tennessee’s full Civil War story, by
capturing its military, home front, occupation and emancipation landscapes. (3) To showcase the photographer’s art
in framing, interpreting and deepening our understanding
of those places and times.
Call for Entries
The contest ends April 1st, 2012, with the winning photographs to be exhibited at The Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County (www.hcmrc.org) from June
through August 2012. The exhibit will then travel to other
places across the state. For further information about the
Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, go to www.

A call for entries has been issued by the Nebraska Arts
Council for its first annual Heart of “America Photography Competition.” Information can be found at http://

Smoky Mountain Models Shoot Out
Milton McLain will be the coordinator for PSC. Be
sure to also notify Milton by email (msmclain2@gmail.
com) after you register online with 3CT. You may want
spend Friday night in Gatlinburg, to get to the early
shoots. There is a hotel discount for the group. Hotel

The Smoky Mountain Models Shoot Out will involve up to
10 models and up to 20 photographers shooting at different times and at different stages on March 10 for all
day. The Shoot takes place at a mountain Chalet located
between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Exact shooting address given when commitment to attend is received.
Your LCPS guides are well versed on the trails and the
best locations for photo ops. The guides are not there
to instruct, only to show you the way.
This event gives both models and photographers in East
Tennessee the unique opportunity to be able to add a
variety of images to their portfolios in a one-day shoot.
Photographers who have not had the opportunity to have a
model-photo session will be able to do so. Finally, there is
an equal opportunity for the models to expand their portfolios by receiving images from multiple photographers in a
single event. ( Photographers are required to provide a CD
of
images to each model that poses for him or her.)

Fees to photographers are: $85 for a 90-minute session
that includes up to three different models; $135 for two 90
minute sessions which include up to three more models.
