The Fifth Annual
Ruberg
Symposium
Welcome to the Fifth Annual Ruberg Symposium, a celebration of Dr. Robert Ruberg’s
lifelong service to all of us. We hope that this will be a wonderful time of professional
and personal enjoyment for the Ohio State University Plastic Surgery family.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

Describe the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of migraine treatment.

List currently available breast implant shape options and describe methods for selecting appropriate
devices for the patient seeking breast augmentation.

List the structural and application differences between the newer shaped form-stable gel implants and
the traditional round gel implants in breast reconstruction.

Describe the risks and benefits of high volume autologous fat transplantation when used in breast augmentation procedures.

Describe methods for proper harvesting, handling, and transfer of fat to optimize survival of transferred
cells in patients undergoing autologous fat transfer for breast and/or gluteal augmentation procedures.

Select the body contouring procedure that is most appropriate for the patient and part of the body that is
being addressed. Specifically, addressing the appropriate pre-op work-up and safety measures, as it
relates to length of surgery and hypothermia and DVT risk.

Discuss issues common to implant reconstruction in the obese patient and implementing strategies to
prevent them.

Evaluate the systematic and financial challenges associated with microsurgical breast reconstruction.

Identify the major airway issues that are typically overlooked during cosmetic rhinoplasty and describe
surgical techniques to address them.

Distinguish the most common forms of craniosynostosis and the current surgical management for each.
