It is a fun and fast quilt that looks fabulous in contrasting or monochromatic fabrics. 7 Meet the Teachers Mickey Depre has always been fascinated by textiles, from vintage to current, her taste has always been ALL! Sewing in general, mending to garment making, were never a chore. But when she pushed herself beyond traditional quilt making, she found the road less traveled was greatly inviting. Her quilts have been described as whirlwinds of color, with oranges residing next to purples of all shades in harmony. Dots, swirls, and stripes intermingle with florals and prints in an outlandish yet exciting visual parade. This is how she sees the world and how she wants the world to see her. Her work mixes traditional quilting techniques with bold, innovative machine appliqué and thread work. Fabric choices include her own hand dyed cotton with commercial cottons for a special spark of color and depth. Pieces are heavily machine quilted. The images are meant to spark thought and a smile, as humor is a great gift to share. With the release of her new book Pieced Hexies she feels she has come full circle. So while you may know her initially as an Art Quilter… she is also a Traditional Quilter. “There is more than enough fabric in the studio to be both an Art Quilter and a Traditional Quilter!” Terri Stegmiller is a mixed-media textile artist and while she makes a contemporary bed quilt now and then she mostly enjoys combining quilting and painting to create art quilts. She has been art quilting since 2005. Terri has authored and co-authored several books, has had her work published in several books and magazines and has exhibited in juried and non-juried shows. Terri received an Honorable Mention for her quilt, A Bright Sun-Shiny Day, at the 2013 Houston International Quilt Festival. Terri has designed a line of stencils that are available from StencilGirl Products, an online shop. She also enjoys creating handbags, painting and various other creative activities. Find Terri on the Internet at www.terristegmiller.com. Jill Brandt started sewing at age eight, inspired by her mom and grandma, and began quilting and stash building over 35 years ago. Her interest in sewing resulted in a Textiles college degree. Being the mother of sons who were more into sports than materials, she is looking forward to passing on her love of fabric and sewing onto four young granddaughters! Jill has dabbled in many creative ventures, but in the quilting realm some may know her as a wool hand-dyer or quilting event coordinator. She especially enjoys the quilt design and planning process, being one of those quilters who can’t just make a quilt like the pattern without tweaking it a bit or making it bigger! Cindie Haakenson, who has been stitching since childhood, went on to earn a degree in home economics education and a minor in textiles and clothing from NDSU. After teaching full time for a few years and substitute teaching for many years, she and her farmer-rancher husband are now semi-retired. She discovered quilting in the mid-80s and has been teaching classes, retreats, and quilt shows for 20+ years. She dabbles in many styles of quilting but especially enjoys working with color. Bonnie Lundorff has been sharing her passion for quilting for over nineteen years at her shop, quilt shows and for quilt guilds all over the upper Midwest. The last ten years her focus has been on hand dyeing wool and designing fun patterns that combine both quilting and wool applique. She coordinates two major events each year: Creative Spirit Arts Festival in February, and Harvest Festival, an outdoor quilt show, in September. Bonnie lives in Bemidji with her husband. They have three grown daughters and five beautiful grandchildren. Bonnie's website is www.willowwoodmarketdesigns.com. Michele Ripplinger has always had some kind of “fancy work” in her hands. She has been quilting since the fall of 2001 and also enjoys crocheting, knitting and various other forms of needlework. Through the years she has been active in a number of area guilds, serving on various committees and boards. Michele grew up in Bismarck and now lives in Mandan with a household of critters that include husband Larry, dogs, cats, and a bird. Diane Rogness has been making quilts since about 1980, preferring to design quilts, choose colors, and put tops together. Her favorite reference guide is Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Quilt Blocks. She likes traditional patterns with a twist, artsy techniques, and bright colors. Susan Schwarz Susan has been quilting for over thirty years and teaching for twenty years. If she’s on a trip it is usually quilt related. She and her husband have five granddaughters. She also enjoys gardening and going on motorcycle trips with her husband. Susan thinks gardening and quilting go hand in hand, because she looks to nature for her colors. 8 Quilt Show and Merchant Mall Friday, November 4 ....................................3:00 PM - 8:00 PM Saturday, November 5 ............................... 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM Sunday, November 6 ............................... 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Admission $5.00 - 12 and older MERCHANT MALL VENDORS Sewing Machines Plus Owner Jim and Angie Avard 322 West Main Street Mandan ND 58554 www.mandansewingmachinesplus.com 701-663-9025 Designer Fabrics Owner: Jackie Jones 929 Main Street Carrington ND 58421 www.quiltdesignerfabrics.com 701-652-3525 Prairie Rose Quilt Shop Owner Carmen Haugen 1500 53rd St SW Minot, ND 58701 www.prairierosequiltshop.com 701-852-2835 Good Vibrations Owner: Kim Thompson 213 7th St NE Minot ND 58701 www.goodvibrationsqs.com 701-839-5645 Willow Wood Market Owner Bonnie Lundorff 23621 Co Rd 9 Bemidji, MN 56601 www.willowwoodmarketdesigns.com 218-759-2310 Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe Owner: Mickey and April Zimmer 122 W James St Paynesville MN 56362 www.sweetgirlstudioworkpress.com 320-243-4436 Quilt Essential Owner: Katie Myklebust 206 5th St NE Devils Lake ND 58301 www.devilslakequiltshop.com 701-662-3634 Comforts of Home Quilting and More Owner: Trish Greenwood 112 17th Street SE Jamestown, ND 58401 www.comfortsofhomequiltingandmore.com 701-845-4926 Capital Quiltfest would like to thank our vendors for making the latest quilting fabric and supplies available to all of our Quiltfest participants. 9 Quilt Show Information and Rules The Capital Quilters guild warmly invites all quilters to enter projects in our Quiltfest show.
