“Back to the Future, Boating Style.” Our theme for 2016 will start Winter Games January 2016. Some of the latest and futuristic marine
products will be on display in our showrooms and on the ice for our Boats on Ice Boat Show. Be the first to see new engines, drives, and
models. We are proud to be the major presenting sponsor for the Winter Games 2016 and are hoping for lots of ice and snow! We kick
it all off Thursday with locals night, and our 4th Annual Battle of the Bartenders charity event. Last year, nearly $4,500 was raised for the
Make-A-Wish Foundation! The weekend continues with a huge entertainment line-up and much more. From the Johnny Holm Band,
ATV and motorcycle racing, Human Sled Dogs Event (sign up on our website), ice carving, helicopter rides to the Snowmobile Radar Run,
there is more to see and do right here at Parks Marina on East Lake than ever before. Okoboji Boat Works will also have the Fish House
with live entertainment and great sales going on all weekend in the Surf Showroom.
From Winter Games on, it is only 60 days to open water and 2016 boating season. Our showrooms are stocked full of new Cobalts,
Crownlines, Harris, Southbay, Yamaha and various other new boats. We’re making our best deals because our sales people are lonely. If
you have the time, we would be happy to make your purchase easy. Our selection of used boats is great. You can view many of these on
our website at www.parksmarina.com. We are trading for others often, so if you know what you want call us and we’ll call you.
At the writing of this newsletter we are constructing a new rack storage facility. Our growth in this area has been phenomenal and the
demand is continuing. Your boat stays inside safe and sound, you call ahead when you want to go boating, and our staff will have your
boat in the water uncovered and waiting. If you need gas or ice, we can do that too. I personally like the service better than a hoist. It
is equal or better than the best valet parking I’ve ever experienced. What’s even better, we will be able to provide our dry rack and
hoist customers with special parking and private showers and restrooms. A lounge with food and drink will follow later. There will be
new play areas for the kids and places to entertain your friends. All this and more is in the near future at Parks Marina. Any and all other
suggestions to make it even better are welcome! Call and sign up for this new and improved valet service with Marilyn at 712-332-7303
or [email protected]
We have many more new projects to do this winter and probably more ideas than we can accomplish but we will be working hard. We try
to take a little extra family time to make up for our seven day weeks in the summer. You can see our reduced hours listed in the letter. I’m
getting older and think for 2016 my resolution will be to only work half days! I will be cutting down to just twelve hours per day, ha ha.
Recently we’ve lost three of our very good friends and customers. Syrena Whitfield and her husband Harley were one of my first
customers back in 1983 and have been with us ever since. They are also O’Farrell’s best customers. Syrena will be missed by all of us. Bill
Sackett has been a friend and advisor for a long time. I hope the last two years on his new pontoon were enjoyable. He used the dry rack
service for the convenience. Jim Cravens from United Community Bank was my banker of choice when we started this boat venture in
1983. He was very helpful to a young farm boy and packing house worker who couldn’t even read a
financial statement. He also holds the title as the oldest boat buyer at Parks. He was 90+ when he
bought his last boat, which was a pontoon. All of these great people had an influence on my life,
and all loved Okoboji and boating. Great memories and smiles are how I will always remember them.
The team and I thank you for a most successful 2015 and we wish you peace,
good will and happiness for you at Christmas and always.
O’Farrells is open
for the holidays!
P.S. Don’t forget our Holiday Shopping Event at Parks Marina and Okoboji Boat Works in
Okoboji on Saturday, December 5th. Beer, wine, snacks, lots of sale items and wonderful
gift ideas. It doesn’t get any more merry!
