Angel Island
You’ve asked for it and now you’ve got it! Join us on
this beau$ful trip out to Angel Island. This trip will surely be beau$ful and mentally s$mula$ng. We will start
our day by taking a beau$ful ferry ride over to Angel
Island. Upon arrival, we will enjoy lunch at Angel Island
Cafe (this will be on your own). Then, we’re off to the
State Park office where we will have a docent led tour,
that shows us where many bay area families got their
start. We will see gorgeous sights, historic engravings,
and stories that have lasted life$mes. This is one day
out you surely don’t want to miss.

Gilroy Garlic Fes val
Let’s venture down to Gilroy, Northern California’s home
of the S$nking Rose, where we will enjoy their annual
Garlic Fes$val. This fes$val will be fun for everyone!
There will be hundreds of arts and cra-s vendors, live
entertainment, cooking contests, and of course, GARLIC!
We will enjoy lunch at the fes$val, which will include a
combina$on of Peppersteak Sandwiches, Calamari, Pasta
with Pesto, and Garlic Bread. And don’t forget about the
free sample of Garlic Ice Cream for dessert! Great food,
great people, and great fun…what’s not to love about
this trip?
Please note: Temperatures in Gilroy can reach up to
90 degrees during the summer. Please dress
accordingly, wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated.

For the Love of Art
Calling all art lovers! Foster City invites you to a day full of art
and design! On this trip, we will begin our day out in lovely San
Jose enjoying art at the beau$ful San Jose Art Museum. You
will have the opportunity to look around and interpret the
message in each art piece. Then, we are off to enjoy a lovely
Mediterranean lunch at OPA! You will all enjoy a Tradi$onal
Greek Village Salad and your choice of a Fiery Feta Burger,
LeCuce Wraps, Flatbread, Gyro Pita, or The Deluxe - Hand
rolled, grilled flatbread topped with tomato sauce, two
cheeses, Greek sausage, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms.
We will end the day at the San Jose Quilt and Tex$le Museum
where we will have a docent led tour to explore the different
pieces of unbelievably crea$ve woven art work. Our trip to San
Jose will definitely refine our taste for art.

Mare Island Tour
Back by popular demand, we are heading back to Vallejo
to visit beau$ful Mare Island! We will start our day at
the First Street Café to enjoy a delicious breakfast that
includes your choice of thick sliced bacon, Aidell’s chicken & apple sausage or Black Forest ham steak, served
with one large egg, breakfast bread, red potatoes and
fresh roast coffee or orange juice. Next, we are off to
Mare Island which was founded by David Glasgow Farragut in 1854 and it stayed in opera$on un$l 1996 when
the Navy closed the Yard. During that 142 year period,
the U.S. defense depended on Mare Island as well as
over 100 organiza$ons. Join us for a day full of great
food and mind-blowing informa$on.

Sausalito Art Fes=val
Who doesn’t love great weather, art, food, and of course
WINE! Join us for a wonderful day out at the 63rd annual
Sausalito Art Fes$val! This event has been voted one of
the most top-ranked events of the year. There will be
over 250 award winning ar$sts from around the country
to showcase their works of art and live entertainment,
such as the Grateful Dead and 50 Troop Air Show! The
food will be on your own, but you get to choose from a
wide variety of food vendors and countless names of the
finest French, Italian, and American wines and
champagne. This event will not disappoint.

When signing up for a trip through the Foster City Senior Wing, please be aware of the
following:
• Trip reserva$ons cannot be made without payment
•
We accept cash (must have exact change) or check only
•
Foster City residents have priority to sign up for trips two days before non-residents
•
Your current medical waiver must be on file or filled out prior to the trip departure
(New medical waivers are required at the start of each new year)
•
No refunds will be granted one week (subject to change) prior to the trip.
Excep=on: If there is a wai$ng list for the trip, we will aCempt to fill your spot.
If we are able to fill your spot from the wai$ng list, you will be provided with a
refund. If there is no wai$ng list and you cannot find a replacement on your
own, you will not be granted a refund for the trip.

Medical Waiver Forms
If you plan on aCending a Senior Wing trip, you must fill out a Medical Waiver Form.
Medical Waiver Forms are available at the Senior Wing Front Desk and must be filled
out every 12 months to be sure that we have your most current informa$on. If you are
unsure of your last Medical Waiver Form update, you may inquire at the Senior Wing
Front Desk.

Senior Express Bus
Let the Senior Express Bus do the driving for you to run errands, go to appointments, and to take you wherever else you need to go! The bus operates as far
north as Trousdale Avenue/Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame and as far south as
Veterans Boulevard/Kaiser in Redwood City. The bus also travels to Stanford Hospital and the Millbrae BART sta$on.
The Senior Express operates on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. within Foster City and San Mateo, Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the
specified territory and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. within Foster City
and San Mateo.
Reserva$ons are required and the payment method is a punch card that can be
purchased at the Senior Wing front desk.

Do you need help walking through the complex Medicare programs and finding what is most
suitable for you? Would you benefit from a review of different Eligibility Periods? Are you eligible for extra help with the costs of your prescrip$on drugs? If the answer to any of these

Walk with a Doc
Come out and enjoy a stroll with physician volunteers who can
answer your health-related ques$ons along the way. People of all
ages and fitness levels are invited to this free community health
program. All walks start at 10:00 A.M. and last approximately one
hour. Walkers receive a complimentary pedometer, boCled water
and a healthy snack.
The Foster City walk will be held on
Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Leo J Ryan Park.

Community Bike Ride
Sunday, September 20 ● 9:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. ● Boothbay Park
Families and individuals are invited to par$cipate in a 2.5 or 11 mile
ride with other community member along the beau$ful leveepedway in Foster City. Free bike ride and helmet safety checks will
be provided, along with water and treats at the halfway point and
finish line. Come join the fun at this Family Fun Series event!

Explore a selec$on of drawing and pain$ng techniques under the guidance of illustrator, MaC Crane.
Learn how to augment shadow and light, create mood and bring dimension to your pain$ngs. For a

Class emphasis is on enjoyment and skill development. Explore various media including watercolor,

Yoga for Health: 10:00a.m. - 11:00a.m., Bluebird Room
Prac$ce beneficial yoga postures designed to increase your range of mo$on, augment flexibility,
enhance vitality, and strengthen your sense of inner calm. Resistance bands and yoga blocks are used
to facilitate some postures. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a towel, small blanket and yoga mat.

Tone up, build strength, feel good! Join us every Tuesday morning and get your day off to a great start.
Zumba “Gold” is an easy-to-follow, cardio based, lower impact, La$n-inspired dance-fitness class. The
music is rhythmic and mo$va$ng, the movements are, by design, modified so all levels can par$cipate.
All classes conclude with strength training using hand weights. S. Funk is a Zumba cer$fied instructor.

Tai Chi - Beginning Zungu Chen Family Taiji: 1:00p.m. - 2:00p.m., Spirit Room
This beginning Tai Chi class introduces the tradi$onal Chen Taiji form and the silk reeling exercises to
increase joint mobility and overall flexibility. Under the skilled and suppor$ve instruc$on of Debbie Au,
these uncomplicated and beneficial postures will lead to a fine tuning of proper body alignment.
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes; no sandals. Dates: 4/28-7/28, 8/25-12/15

Interested in learning how to create your own kniCed garments and gi-s? Give it a try. Learn basic or
advanced kniVng skills. Complete an introductory project, or learn new techniques to add to your
current skills. Learn to read the paCern books to create designs that inspire you. Bring size 7
single-point needles and medium weight worsted yarn. Dates: 4/29-7/22, 9/2-12/15
Qi Gong: 10:30am-11:30am, Lagoon Room
This class is a hybrid class with Qi Gong used as a medita$ve warm-up followed by light aerobics,
weight work, and stretching. Enjoy an hour of moving and strengthening your whole body. All levels

Tai Chi: 10 Week Intensive: 1:00p.m. – 2:00p.m., Spirit Room, $62
A con$nua$on of the Zungu Chen Family Taijiquan (Lao Jia) First Form, in a suppor$ve limited classsized environment. Each student will receive individualized aCen$on. Each class session begins with
the silk reeling exercises for joint mobility and over all flexibility. You will then proceed to prac$ce the
Tai Chi form placing emphasis on posture and balance. Class limited to 15 students. Wear comfortable

Prac$ce beneficial yoga postures designed to increase your range of mo$on, augment flexibility, enhance vitality, and strengthen your sense of inner calm. Resistance bands and yoga blocks are used to
facilitate some postures. Class will conclude with 15 minutes of medita$ve relaxa$on exercises. Wear
comfortable clothing. Bring a towel, small blanket and yoga mat. Dates: 4/30-7/30, 8/27-12/17

Construct garments and adjust paCerns. Tailor your clothes and projects to reflect what you like. Learn
how to achieve a perfect fit for your unique body! All levels, from beginning seamstresses to experienced sewers are welcomed. Beginners will learn to measure themselves and make simple paCerns. A
few sewing machines are available; bring your own if you wish.
All students pay $10 materials fee directly to the instructor. Dates: 5/1-7/24, 8/28-12/11

Murder Mystery Dinner: Crime and Pun-ishment

Mystery, Crime and PUN-ishment makes for a night full of fun! This
dinner is one of a kind to say the least! There will be actors here to
help us solve the mystery of who commiCed a crime in the Lagoon
Room. Each table with be given clues to help solve the mystery; for all

Lunch Bunch
The Lunch Bunch program meets on the third Wednesday of each
month at 11:15am. We meet in the Senior Wing lobby and take the

Foster City International Writer’s Contest
The City of Foster City is sponsoring the 37th annual Interna$onal Writer’s Contest. This contest is open to all who enjoy wri$ng. The first place winners receive
$250 and the second place winners receive $100, including a cer$ficate with the
name of the winner, category, and name of the ar$cle. The categories are Fic$on,
Poetry, and Essay. All the winners will have their picture and names in the local
