Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Arshad Ayub as the Chancellor of the University and a distinguished member of the university community,” said Amit Sevak, Chief Executive Officer of INTI International University & Colleges and Chairman of the Board of Governors of INTI IU. “With Tan Sri at the helm, INTI will continue to focus on transforming the lives of our students, and to provide the best education possible to set them on the path of excellence.” Tan Sri Arshad Ayub internationalized education by introducing expatriate lecturers and external examiners. The graduation ceremony following the installation of Tan Sri Arshad Ayub saw more than 270 INTI graduates receiving their hard-earned scrolls, with an impressive 91% of them achieving First or Second Class Honours in Accountancy, Business Administration, International Business, Financial Planning, Mass Communication, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Information Technology, Internet & Multimedia Computing, Network & Mobile Computing and Biotechnology. In addition, more than 180 diploma level students graduated in fields of study ranging from Civil Engineering and Information & Communication Technology to Quantity Surveying and Pharmacy. INTI IU has been developing its higher education infrastructure, human resources and intellectual capital for close to 30 years. Its alumni, who have been the country’s flag bearers the world over, demonstrate evidence of its success and commitment to its vision and mission. Feature 3 Introducing the First Chancellor of INTI International University Tan Sri Arshad Ayub delivering his acceptance speech A highly respected gentleman with a passion for education reform, Tan Sri Dato Seri Utama Arshad Ayub is any academic’s role model for being at the forefront of academic innovation. Renowned for his drive and leadership qualities, Tan Sri Arshad has made significant contributions which have shaped the landscape of Malaysia’s education progress. Academic Qualifications Tan Sri Arshad Ayub graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture from the College of Agriculture, Serdang, Selangor in 1954 and obtained his Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Economics and Statistics from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in United Kingdom in 1958 and in 1964, he pursued a postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Management Development Institute (IMEDE), Lausanne, Switzer- land. Career Milestones Tan Sri Arshad Ayub had a distinguished career and an extensive work experience in the Malaysian Civil Service, having held senior positions in various Ministries in the Malaysian Government from 1958 till 1983 including as Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia from 1975 to 1977, Deputy Director General in the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department from 1977-1978, and Secretary General of 3 Ministries, namely, Ministry of Primary Industries in 1978, Ministry of Agriculture in 1979 to 1981 and Ministry of Land and Regional Development from 1981 to 1983. He was a Member of Justice Harun’s Salaries Commission for statutory bodies. Outstanding Accolades Fondly remembered for his influences in developing UiTM (formerly known as MARA Institute of Technology) to greater and progressive heights, Tan Sri Arshad was appointed the university’s first director in 1967. Since then, he has received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding contributions to the field of education from both local and international institutions, bodies and organizations. Some of these awards include the following: Honorary Doctor of Laws (Ll.D), Ohio University, Athens, U.S.A Fellow of Institut Tadbiran Awam Negara (INTAN) Honorary Doctor of Education (D.Ed), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Fellowship of the University College of Wales, Aberyswyth Honorary Doctor of Laws (Ll.D), University of Wales Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt), Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM) (currently known as University Putra Malaysia) Tun Abdul Razak National Award Tokoh RIDA-MARA, Jubli Emas RIDA-MARA Honorary Doctorate Degree (DUniv) by University of South Wales, United Kingdom He was also the recipient of ‘Anugerah Mutiara Budi’ from the Ministry of Finance for his great contribution to the government and was awarded the prestigious ACCA Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution for the development of professional accountancy in Malaysia. Professor Dr. Allan Fisher This issue features prominently the appointment of our first University Chancellor, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Utama Arshad Ayub. Tan Sri Arshad’s involvement with INTI helps to raise our profile in the nation, as well as make his unmatched insights available to us. In addition, Tan Sri is a keen advocate of students, and we look forward to his involvement on campus. This August, we will continue our work on the renovation of our performance evaluation system to be ever more transparent, fair, and mission-focused. We will follow up on the goal-setting exercise held earlier this year with continued training for performance managers (i.e. all supervisors responsible for completing performance evaluations). More information will be forthcoming in future issues. The next few weeks also mark our last major intake of new students for the year. How well we do will have a meaningful impact on our budgetary flexibility for next year, Tuned in to the live broadcast of the World Innovation Forum from Leon, Mexico, the students from INTI International University, Nilai and INTI International College Subang acquired a wealth of information from the comfort of their respective campuses. The lineup of internationally acclaimed speakers presenting their ideas and perspectives on research and innovation included Daniel Pink, former US Vice President Al Gore’s chief speechwriter, and Luke Williams, a leading consultant and speaker on design and innovation strategy. Another panel member, Pau Garcia-Mila, who is renowned for his expertise in cloud computing and for co-founding eyeOS at the age of 17, shared his entrepreneurial philosophy and inspired the audience to look into the as the size of our student body going into the new year is one of our most important financial drivers. Please continue the excellent work you have done all many facets of being a successful entrepreneur. Throughout the two-day forum, students gained insight into innovation trends and were able to apply the information in their classwork assignments and projects. There was consensus among the students that the forum proved insightful, informative and inspiring. Looking forward to similar events, the students have high expectations on the upcoming broadcast of the World Business Forum in October which will featured a star-studded lineup of outstanding business moguls.
