Rules and Regulations
INTERPRETATION OF RULES
The Board of Directors reserves the final
and absolute right to interpret these rules
and regulations and determine all matters,
questions and differences in regard
thereto, or otherwise arising out of, or incident to the fair.
ADMISSION
1. Exhibitors of livestock will be required to
purchase an exhibitor’s pass, which admits
the exhibitor to the grounds any time during
the fair.
2. All persons (excepting children under 12
years of age) must be provided with a ticket
to obtain admission to the grounds.
3. All campers will pay $125.00 per unit for
the fair.
4. All entries must be entered between
9:00 am to 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 19,
2015. No exhibits will be admitted after that
time. Judging will take place early Thursday
morning.
5. Superintendents will be at the grounds
Wednesday, August 19, 2015, from 9:00 a.m.
to 7:00 p.m. to whom exhibits must be taken.
No exhibits will be received after that time unless for display only.
6. No exhibitor will be allowed to make
more than one entry in any one lot. Articles in
sets cannot compete for single premiums. No
exhibitor can compete for regular and special
premiums. The entry must specify whether
special or otherwise.
7. Stock and art must be entered in the
name of the bona-fide owner and grain, vegetables, fruit and dairy products must have
been raised or made by the exhibitor thereof
during the past year.
8. Every article in competition must correspond in number and description with the premium list and be in proper class in order to
obtain premiums. No change or alteration will
be permitted after books are placed in the
hands of the judges. Unless OK’d by the superintendents.
9. No animal or article will be assigned a
place on the grounds until entry shall have
been made.
10. Each entry tag shall be securely attached to the entry itself or the stall, pen or receptacle in which it is shown.
11. All livestock entries will be released at
7:00 p.m. Sunday. All other entries will be released at 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
12. Premiums and prizes will not be paid
on any entries leaving before assigned release times.
13 Grains and field seeds shall consist of
one quart by measure and containers will be
furnished.
14. Exhibition of articles not competing for
premiums must be arranged for at the secretary’s office and will be arranged as far as
possible in conformity with the wishes of the
exhibitor. The superintendents have the right
to disqualify exhibits that are not the work of
the exhibitor.
15. Checks to all premium winners will be
handed out Sunday at 8:00 p.m.
16. No prize ribbons or cards received at
any other or preceding fairs or any bills of advertising will be allowed to be attached to exhibit stall or distributed upon the grounds.
17. The same article or item cannot be entered in more than one class at the fair.
18. The Swift County Fair Association does
not provide insurance on exhibits and cannot
be held responsible for loss in case of fire, but
every precaution will be taken to prevent such
an occurrence.
19. Visitors at the fair are urged to use
every means to avoid accidents occurring at
the fair as the Swift County Fair Association
does not assume responsibility.
20. Any person carrying passengers and
doing general delivery work to and from the
fair grounds, or selling goods of any kind will
be required to purchase a season ticket.
21. No roller skates, in-line skates, skate
boards, bicycles, scooters, golf carts, ATV’s or
other wheeled vehicles are allowed on the
Swift County Fairgrounds without the consent
of the Board of Directors.
22. No person or group of persons shall
banner, picket, march, protest, demonstrate or
caucus on the Swift County Fairgrounds before or during the fair in any manner that interferes with the convenience or safety of any
county fair patron, exhibitor or employee. Anyone doing so will be made to leave the Swift
County Fairgrounds and stage in a space designated by the Board of Directors outside of
fenced perimeter at the farmost SW corner of
the fair grounds.
23. Exhibitors wishing to park their cattle
trailers at the fairgrounds for the duration of
the fair may do so but in a specific area of the
grounds designated by the Board of Directors
for that purpose.
24. There will be no personal vehicles or
support vehicles allowed inside the grounds
for any reason during fair hours without fair
board approval. Any unauthorized vehicles
parked inside the fairgrounds will be towed at
owner’s expense.

AWARDS
1. The superintendent of the division or
some other person appointed shall assist the
awarding committee as clerk and shall keep
a record of the awards made. This record
when completed shall be signed by the
awarding committee and returned to the secretary.
2. The awards of entries shall be designated, as follows: First premium, blue; second, red; third, white; sweepstakes, purple.
3. When there is but one entry in a class,
prize money and ribbons shall be awarded as
merits of exhibits may warrant.
4. All interference by exhibitors to influence
or dictate the decision of the judges shall be
sufficient cause for excluding his or her entries from competition and should be reported
to the secretary through the superintendent of
the division.
5. No appeal from the decision of the
awarding committee shall be allowed. The decision of the judges is final.
6. No awarding committee shall award any
discretionary premiums whenever articles of
superior merit are exhibited for which no premium has been offered. The awarding committee may enter the same as “commended”
on the book of awards so that the secretary
may report the same to the board for future
action.
7. Premiums will not be awarded to articles
or animals of inferior merit, although there
may be no competition.
8. Where a sum of premium money is to be
paid out pro-rata the apportionments shall be
according to the merits of the individual exhibits.
9. Special premiums may be offered by interested persons for entries which conform to
the general classification of the fair association.
10. All exhibits not called for within a reasonable amount of time after the fair, will be
forfeited to the society.
11. Every animal or article on the ground
shall, during the fair be subject to the control
of the board of directors, and while every precaution shall be taken for the safekeeping of
the same, the society will in no case be responsible for any loss of damage that may
occur.
12. No person will be permitted to distribute
advertising matter on the grounds except
from their places of business or exhibit. The
tacking or posting of any advertisements,
bills, cards, etc., other than within the space
occupied by exhibitors, is strictly prohibited.
The distribution of handbills, flyers, heralds,
etc., will not under any circumstances be permitted. Anyone violating this rule will be liable
to a fine or expulsion from the grounds as the
board may elect.
13. In the event that the total amount of the
premiums exceeds the state appropriation,
the board of directors reserves the option and
right to pro-rate the payment of all premiums
according to funds available.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. All standard varieties will be accepted for
entry and the Standard of Perfection will govern all awards. No prizes will be paid on cross
breeds and hybrids.
2. Old and young stock will compete separately. No pen or trio entries will be accepted.
3. All purebred pet stock such as rabbits will
be accepted for entry and prizes will be paid.
4. All animals will be promptly fed and watered by the owners. All specimens will be entered at the risk of the owner. The
superintendent may reject any exhibit deemed
detrimental to the exhibition.

FFA advisor can be exhibited in FFA classes.
5. All entries for FFA must be sent to your FFA
advisor by 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 19,
2015. Judging will take place Thursday morning.
6. All livestock brought on the fairgrounds must
comply with rules and regulations of the Minnesota Livestock Sanitary Board. Check with your
FFA advisor or the County Agent.
7. FFA livestock will be judged as per schedule
included in posted schedule.
8. Classes of 11 or more will be split.
9. Exhibits will be released at 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
FFA – CROPS
CROP RULES
1. Only one entry per lot. Additional entries
must be individual FFA projects as certified by the
FFA advisor.
2. Corn shall be 2014 crop.
3. Small grain – 2014 crop – 2 quart samples.
4. Soybeans – 3” diameter sheaf, 2014 crop; 2
qt. sample, 2013 crop.
5. Sunflowers – 2014 head; or 2 qt. sample
2013 crop.
6. Hay shall be shown as a 12-inch section
neatly tied.
7. Silage will be shown as 1-gallon sample in
sealed, clear plastic bag.
8. Members must specify VARIETY on all small
grain and soybean entries.
9. All entries for FFA must be sent to your FFA
advisor by 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 13.
Judging will take place Thursday morning.
10. Small grain sheaves will be shown without
roots except soybeans.

All FFA members are encouraged to enter animals in the Children’s Barnyard. Animals with
young or small animals are preferred. Suggested
animals include cow with calf, young goats, pony
or colt, donkey, and ewe with lamb, etc.
Entries will be left up to the discretion of the Agriculture Instructors. Contact Wes Anderson, Lac
qui Parle Valley High School Ag-Education Department for entering exhibits at least two days
prior to fair.
All animals in the children’s barnyard are to
be left until 8:00 p.m. the closing day of the
fair.
Demonstrations are to be about a one hour
presentation to the public, in the FFA barn. Topics
pre-approved with advisor.

Soft Spread categories canned in Ball® Jars
sealed with Ball® Bands with Dome® Lids or

Dome® Lids, or canned in Kerr® Jars sealed
with Kerr® Bands with Self Sealing® Lids or
Ball® Collection Elite™ Decorative Bands with
Dome® Lids. In addition, selections of the two
best entries submitted by adults in the Soft

Product Appearance Requirements.
* Pieces should be uniform in size and
packed snugly but allow for circulation of liquids.
* Products should be free from defects of
blemishes, strings, stems, seeds, pits and
peels. Some recipes may require stems, pits
and/or peels to remain; this is acceptable if the
recipe is in keeping with approved guidelines.
* Liquids should cover the product, keeping
within the headspace guidelines.
* Liquids should be clear and free from cloudiness and small particles.
* Product should retain its natural characteristic color or as nearly that of standard cooked
product. It should be free from undue color
loss.
* Texture should be tender but not overcooked.
* Product should maintain its shape and size
appropriate for recipe and preparation
method.
Bands.
* Bands should be in place for transporting
home canned products; however, bands may
be removed when presented for judging.
* Replacing the bands for display is optional.
Processing Method and Time.
* All entries must be heat-processed following
canning guidelines from one of the references
(listed above).
* If product was not processed according to
recommendations, it must be disqualified.
Labeling.
* Entries must be labeled with product
named, date of preparation, processing
method and processing time. Home canned
foods to be judged must have been prepared
within a one-year period prior to judging date.

The judging will begin at 11:00 am. At that time each of the contestants will be interviewed individually by the judges off stage. The Contest will be judged on your child and doll being a complete
unit along with the interview and the stage presence of your child .
The age categories are 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8. You may register your child between 10:30 am – 11:00
am in the CBB on Saturday, August 22. However, they must be registered and ready for individual
judging at 11:00 am. The contestants will be introduced to the public and winners named before the
Talent Contest. Special Ribbons will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category plus the overall winner will receive a trophy.
The DeMarce Theatre of Benson is sponsoring this event.
